Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Jack Viney bump that never was!

I wonder if Adelaide kicked up a stink.

It's the same scenario when Trenners tackled "glass jaw" Dangerfield. Sore losers Adelaide made a big deal,

Trenners gets 3 weeks and hasn't been the same since. Dangerfield excels the next round, so much for his concussion

as shown on the doctors report. What's with that club.

Thanks for reminding me. That was another disgrace. You would have thought Dangerfield was dead the week before the next game.

And you can bet your life that if it was an expansion club the outcome would be different. I feel myself getting mighty pieced off as I write this because I do think there are two sets of rules.

Referring it is better than applying the MRP's system - it would have meant fighting a 3 or 4 week charge.

Now he can have a chance to get off as the contact was incidental to him going for the ball.

I'm not holding my breath though - this stuff happens in footy but is a look they don't like to see. They would like Viney to not bother with the ball in that instance.

Lynch braces himself and this is not something we talk about and he doesn't have a broken jaw.

Players need to learn to protect themselves.

Right on the money 'rpfc', so many players go in wide open these days it's not funny. We were always taught to turn the body to protect yourself, I would rather do that than let the rule book be my protection. It's not much use when someone is running straight at you. Viney did it the right way, Lynch wrong.

I think Lynch should be suspended for injuring himself and Georgiou with a head clash.

Was Viney's bump shoulder to shoulder?

Did Viney's head clash in to Lynch?

If the answer to both those questions is no then it doesn't matter that Lynch's head hit Georgiou's. That's footy.

We need the super slow mo camera to work out if Viney made the contact to Lynch or if it was the ensuing head clash that caused the damage. Viney shouldn't be held accountable if his bump was clean.

Vineys shoulder hit Lynch's Jaw, after sliding past the shoulder to shoulder contact, BUT the contact to Lynch's jaw was minimal (un-reportable free kick only) as the force momentum was already taken body to body. It was the recoil of Lynch's head toward Georgiou's head, & the oncoming Georgiou that made the big head clash & injuries.

IMO it was Lynch pulling his head back away & his body's momentum moving back, after Viney's body hit his that created the head clash with Georgiou.

I think we'll be missing Georgiou, Frawley, & Viney next match. as silly as that sounds.

Yeah.....nah.

Since the bump by Gia on Kossie, the rules have changed.

Duty of care.

If they give weeks for this incident, to my mind the AFL is saying that they are effectively wanting a type of player to play the game and, more importantly, phasing out an entire tradition. RJay, you were spot on. We were taught how to ride a bump or turn away at the moment of contact. Lynch had no awareness of the situation presenting. I am sorry for his injury but sheesh.

Is there a possibility the referral is to allow the AFL to save face? and not penalise as a special case?

It is head high damage, but certainly not clear cut as and when or who caused the damage due to the ricochet and three party involvement .

Fantastic bump.

Really hope they grow a brain and throw it out, and the reason it's been referred directly is so that they don't automatically assign the incident 5 weeks based on their stupid report qualifiers and he'd have to fight to get the charges dropped instead of argue his case.

.. yeah right.

MRP refers 2 tribunal when tick-the-box approach fails to cater to circumstances. Viney referral is the right thing. Now tribunal must clear

Time for the Melbourne players to start tweeting to free Viney. The head bump rule wasn't brought in for the old snooker cannon of the head

Lynch's evidence may be something like

"I wath approthing the fooball when I thaw Viney coming and then I thaw oh thit and then I don't remember anything"

I hope he has learnt from his big mistake.

Interesting to hear the AFL's reasoning for clearing Josh Kennedy on Colin Sylvia in 2010.

The difference is that Lynch had just taken control of the ball (so Viney could have theoretically tackled him as well) and was put in a vulnerable position by Georgiou's tackle, which pushed him forwards into Viney.

I personally think it should have been 'play on' as the umpire called in on the field and a shame but tough luck for the broken jaw.

Hilarious. Needed that reality check.

This is surely a hoax. Or are the tribunal just doing this to keep getting paid? I would say the majority of journo's and footy fans are on viney's side. Unless gill from the Simpsons is heading the defendant it should be thrown out.

I'm with Jon Ralph. Seems to make sense. Usual head high stuff remains, but this wasn't usual at all. Get out of jail for all.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
