Generation dee 1,336 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 OK. Half Time. Thing's I've loved: Viney took a mark in front of the leading Franklin. Stretched right up and left himself wide open with no idea how close Franklin was. THe kid has no sense of self-preservation. Nev hurling himself into the air to spoil a certain mark, winning the ground ball and getting hit high for what would have been a free kick had he been wearing just about any other jumper. Jamar's effort around the ground. He's not getting many disposals, but he's providing a physical presence more than he has for the last few years. The overall physical effort from the team. Things i've hated: The [censored]-poor one-eyed umpiring. Watts' inability to chase, compete for a contested ball, jump for a mark with both hands... Concerns: Pretty sure we'll see at least one of our players suspended out of this. I'd love to see us make the most of our inside 50s in the second half to put on some scoreboard pressure. Agree entirely, just need a few guys to stand up and prove their worth. Frawley, jones, vince Dawes and grimes are all playing well defensively or with great effort, just polish up on the foot skills and we improve from an 8 goal a week side to a 12 goal a week side. I'd love to include watts but I feel he has peaked. Not a jab at him, just don't see the desire in him that I see in 99% of other afl players
RalphiusMaximus 6,112 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 On ANZAC weekend, I'm going to go ahead and say that Jack Watts would be a monty to survive several major wars completely unininjured. I dunno. I can see him being shot in the foot.
chook fowler 19,769 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Pedersons reinvention is mirroring Dunns
The Song Formerly Known As 6,479 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I watched Watts give up when his play got the ball and "too far" ahead to catch. He just jogged. Tell that to Davey, or JKH. There is never too far behind as you don't know what can happen! I am done with the boy
Hellaintabadplacetobe 4,335 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Pedersen is the only player running. I'm at the game and watching him closely. He busts a gut this bloke, his improvement is unheralded I reckon!
Jaded No More 68,976 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 If we were composed with the footy we'd be great. Pederson for Brownlow.
rjay 25,424 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 the commentators are right. He needs to run with the ball. Sure does, needs to get out of 2nd gear and run with the ball like Smith at the Hawks who is also an outside player.
Dr. Gonzo 24,468 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 The boys just lack the composure when its a hot footy. Quite a few times they've been off and a fumble at a critical time has killed our surge forward. The umpiring has killed this great game we love... Thanks Wayne Campbell. Who would've thought the Gieschen-era would be looked back upon fondly? Seriously watch them come out and say "nothing's changed in the directions to the umpires since last week" - I've been stuck on the couch the last couple of days sick so I've seen pretty much all the games start to finish and the umpiring in all has been pathetic and has clearly changed since last week. Love to see the AFL defend it.
FarNorthernD 5,862 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Pedersons improvement this year gives me hope for Watts
RalphiusMaximus 6,112 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 the commentators are right. He needs to run with the ball. No, he needs to run without it first.
Chook 15,068 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I dunno. I can see him being shot in the foot. Actually, now that I think about it he'd probably pull a Max Klinger and start dressing in drag to get a Section 8 psychiatric discharge.
cowboy_from_hell 2,390 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 At least we are watchable every week. Last year we would of been on 15 points but Sydney would be 132. Watts should be subbed for Salem. Pedo and Dunn are having a dead set crack. The Ruling of holding the ball is the problem not the umpires. You just need to attempt to dispose of the ball and in doing so you can drop the ball and it's called play on. The rule needs to be changed as it was only brought in to ease congestion. It has taken away one of the major fundamentals of the game. You used to HAVE to handball or kick the ball.
SaberFang 7,151 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 All year I haven't understood all the crap levelled at Pedo. He's been busting his ass since NAB 1 v Richmond, and gives everything each week. Nice to see he's finally getting the credit he deserves.
The Great One 99 125 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I would drop him for the rest of the year. At least then he is hidden away before other teams realise how crap he is. Maybe if we're lucky, we could get a 3rd round pick for him.
Hellaintabadplacetobe 4,335 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Scrappy affair but to keep Swans goalless is a great effort. Considering it was 13 zip in a heartbeat, this had been impressive thus far. Not without a chance here!
tonatopia 278 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 We need to win centre clearances. Otherwise, an even game. Nb, watts has been instructed to NOT be our inside player, rather our outsider. He will turn it on again, like rd1.
dee-luded 2,959 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Hoping this conversation is going down right now.. Roos to Watts. Wattsy put the red vest on... I'll back Salem to have more composure and impact in his first game than you've had in two weeks. Roos to watts, what wrong TB, I'm having a bad hair day? Huh? it'll be OK Jack, we'll rest you up for next week some time.
Straight Sets Simon 23,113 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Howe, Watts and Frawley all been pathetic.
JP_ 60 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I think Watts' problem is that he was always able to get by in the junior level because of his talent, size and athleticism and he's just never learnt to do the more basic things that less naturally gifted players have had to learn right from the beginning. I don't think it's always down to lack of effort with him, and I don't think we need to belabour the point that he's never going to be someone with the drive or desire of Nathan Jones, say, he just needs to know that not everything done on a football field has to be done gracefully. He's almost trying to hard to make everything he does look poised and effortless, with the result that he just ends up looking like he's not trying. Take note of all the times he goes for the ball one-handed or stops and props looking for the killer pass - sometimes it's better just to run in a straight line at the ball and boot it away haphazardly once you get it. It doesn't look as good, but it would certainly be more effective.
Chook 15,068 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Good mark from Jack Watts. Doesn't hit Frawley, but we can't be asking TOO much of young Jack.
monoccular 17,759 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 OMG - Sydney player just caught red headed - "made an attempt" - this is NOT in the rule book. Haven't a clue
whatwhat say what 23,836 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 buddy working up beyond the 50m arc now. they're going 1-on-1 in contests - we can't get our spare back.
dee-luded 2,959 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 The poor tackles and lackadaisical approach by Watts is one thing, but the fact he handballs off in the back line and instead of shepherding for his teammate, waltzes off to try and get an easy handball back makes it the worst. It makes me sad to say it, but he's just not a footballer. I'm sick of telling friends he'll be something and he repaying us by offering this crap. the thing that annoys me about him atmo, is not that he's timid, he can grow out of that if he wants to; it's the the squibbing of his turn, 'to bust his arze chasing' when its his go. .... that doesn't require guts, nor smarts, just dedication & care for your teammates & the jumper. get him out. & dock his pay.
Sir Why You Little 37,450 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Good mark from Jack Watts. Doesn't hit Frawley, but we can't be asking TOO much of young Jack.Should have run. Take the game on....
