Dees name new leaders as Jamar return looms

MELBOURNE has added three players to its leadership group, following the retirement of Mitch Clark and the long-term injury to former co-captain Jack Trengove.

The Demons have named key forward Chris Dawes, versatile tall Lynden Dunn and experienced midfielder Daniel Cross as official leaders.

All 3 are very welcome additions.

A long term detractor of ol crappy moustache man but he's certainly earned it..as much as my respect for his endevour. Hopefully thats infectious.

Dawes I think is about to 'break out' in a fashion. He may well prove his doubters wrong.

Cross a gem

I think Lynden's transition this year is a huge credit both to himself, and to Mr Roos.

Well done.

And Chris Dawes' elevation is a given. Well done. (I wonder if those here who labelled him as "soft" in the early weeks of the season will recant after his recent showings?)

Dunn could yet be a success story for us and his experience could be very important for our team in future years. Not many have survived at Melbourne around the time he was drafted like Bate, Sylvia etc

... ironic that he is a free agent at the end of the year too, yet everyone is concerned about Frawley. Dunn is fast becoming a concern for me in that I think he is definately needed by the MFC.

One of my fav posts on DL was the reenactment of a supposed meeting between Roos and Dunn which created a situation where Dunn takes his game to the next level is elevated into the LG

Roos "Dunn, stop being a dick head"

Dunn "Ok"

IMO Dunn is one of the few players on our list who improved over the past 2 years.

My nomination for most improved this year is Bail with Evans a possible smokey.

Congratulations to all three. They have clearly earned the respect of team-mates and coaches alike, and so it seems, Demonlanders as well. Now, there's a vote of confidence!

Well deserved by all three.

I personally think it's fantastic to see Dunn there. He's clearly worked hard over the last 12 months and it is really paying off. He is exactly the kind of player who hasn't been doing this in the past, who we really need doing this in order to set the tone for the younger players coming through.

It's a pity that there is a real generation gap around his and Jones' age group as they'd be the ones sheltering the kids at this point.

3 top blokes.

Dunny has shown so much leadership on the track this year.

The other 2 show so much leadership experience, from previous clubs.

You just can't not pick them.

They are all stand out leaders.

Crap idea.

whilst he's obviously enjoying his new found fun role..., what leadership is he offering when hes really covering all bets ? just asking?

well more than that really. a player like Chip...or even Buddy...whilst fantastic as they are arent necessarily automatically leadership material.

Lets not confuse alpha males with role model or leadership qualities

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
