Here is a name that appeals as a potential bargain... Brad Sewell.

Another hamstring injury has meant another 4-5 wks out. This year has been ruined by injury. At 30, hawks are likely to offer him at best a one year deal. He is surplus for them and has tasted premiership glory already.

We should offer a 2 year deal. We need on field leaders. We need centre square clearances. We need midfield depth. Sewell in exchange for pick 80 or exchange in trade for James Strauss (who is likely to be delisted anyway).

The Cross experiment has worked. I agreed with this, despite being howled down by some of this site. Why not again?? on the proviso we buy as a late pick trade , delisted FA or swap for a player we would delist anyway

Has done his hammy THREE times since Feb, it will be hard as it is for him to crack the 200 games mark. So that's a no thanks from me.

I certainly find it interesting that Tom Mitchell is averaging about 30 disposals a game in the seconds and yet Brandon Jack and Zac Jones who have averaged less, have been getting games ahead of him in the seniors.

His in his third year at the Swans and at no point has there been any media release of him re-signing or extending his contract.

We know the Swans cap is ridiculously tight and I won't be surprised if he is on the table at the end of the year seeking more money and more opportunity - certainly worth it.

The two players mentioned have been getting games because they play different roles/ have more strings to their bows - their midfield time has been very limited. Brandon Jack can play as a small forward and has pace, Zac Jones can play as a small back/ defensive mid.

Agree that he's worth chasing though.

Getting Tom Mitchell would be a better get that Dylan shiel in my opinion they are both beasts would be happy with either or both but if I had to choose one it would be Mitchell

Relax recruiters now in Germany. They can kick seven goals a match.

Chasing sure. Chasing at what price is the question.

Mitchell isn't that fast nor does he have amazing skills. But I'm so not enamoured by any of the top picks in this draft that maybe besides Petracca and McCartin I'd trade for Mitchell. But if we gave up a pick 3 or 4 for him I'd want something else thrown in.

Andrew Gaff is OOC at the end of this year,

i'd offer him a good contract to come home, and our second rounder and steak knives, he is not worth our first rounder in my opinion.

Gaff is just the type of player that could help our defensive unit though. He's a beautiful kick. I'd be worried about the bloke he plays on though.

All for throwing the sink at Cameron

FWIW Cameron said today he expects to re-sign in the not too distant future.

You know statements like this can be shown up, right?

Please point to the posts where you were "howled down". Browsing the first few pages I'm struggling to find one post which wasn't in support of acquiring Cross. It was pretty much unanimous.

Sewell's body however is starting to give up on him. He'll finish at the Hawks.

Cameron would be a massive get... he is still young and regardless of his current form, he is still probably the best prospect young forward in the game at the moment... Id be more than happy for the club to through overs Camerons way... he would have every club inquiring, so I'm not sure he'll come to us... No harm in asking though...

Richard Douglas and Brett Deledio are players id like the club to target... Douglas plays pretty much the way i wish Tapscott would and Deledio almost single handedly drag Richmond into the finals last year...

Malcheski unrestricted free agent, apparently the swans are concerned with the cap squeeze, would be a great get for a couple of years imo, but we'd have to keep Chip or risk damaging our compo

I said a few pages back I'd be happy to have a look at Sewell but I think you're pretty close to the mark with this comment P-man. His body is close to done and he will more than likely retire than play on.

And while the Cross experiment has worked we need to be careful as it won't always work - someone like O'Keefe, who a few have mentioned, makes me nervous as he has clearly lost plenty of his pace and ability to play at the top level and I don't think he would have a positive impact on field for the club. If we go for that experience it needs to be someone who still has the ability to stay fit and contribute, something both Sewell and O'Keefe probably can't do for us.

I reckon we should develop Salem into the Luke Hodge quarter back type player, has the skills to be damaging and set up, can mark, very clean and brave

Nathan Vardy, good young ruckman, 3rd in line behind Simpson and Mcintosh

As for Tom Mitchell, yes he's a decent player.. But not one I'd be wanting to pay overs for.

He's a 180 cm contested ball winner who doesn't provide much else and we're screaming out for classy mids who can provide our midfield with some flair.

Viney

Jones

Cross

Tyson

They're all hard at it contested ball winners. We need some power mids who can break games open with their speed, penetrating kicking and decision making. Players that opposition players will hate dealing with.

Yes I'm talking about you Dangerfield...

Dangerfield & Shiel... a nice combo to add to those we have... If not 'Danger' then Rohan with some sort of trade? (Blease & our 3rd Rnd'r)

Is Dangerfield gettable? 6 year deal, good dollars, maybe the captaincy?

he would be massive for our club.

err, no, intended to be their second forward and ruck, broke down with another knee injury.

On the money 'Andrew', They see Vardy as very important to their future. I'm not so sure, apart from the odd cameo he hasn't shown a lot to get me enthused.

Vardy is a future star. Before doing his knee he was the preferred ruck/forward by the length of the strait. The cats aren't letting this kid go anywhere. Once he gets a clear run everyone will see the talent this kid has.

Here's one a bit left field.. Ash smith from West coast. Plays across half back and last couple of seasons been crulled by injury. He had a good season in 2011 when they made the prelim and hasn't had a good run at it since. Is a good kick and has pace, ran 2nd to watts in the 20m sprint at draft camp. At the time west coast got him in the 30s n were wrapt he slipped through. Has played 43 games and is only 23, could be what we need a skillful half back flanker.. His a dandenong stingray boy so could entice him back home

That would be the only warning sign to me. If he has played most of this season injury free then he is worth a look but otherwise I think there might be better options out there.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
