Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Brett Kirk - Roos' successor?

Recommended Posts

Fact of the matter is that Paul Roos has Sydney-fied Melbourne. That means that the assistant coach must have a strong Sydney connection to continue the path to the holy grail.

Kirk has been raised time and time again on these boards by smart people. You have to then wonder why Melbourne was eager to sign Stuart Dew 6 months ago? Why Kirk wasn't top of the list then? Don't be surprised if the candidate comes from within (Allison, Mathews etc..)

Amazing how the footy public rate coaches. My best picks are the ones that did bloody well with average lists. Bomber Thompson has the footy world fooled IMO. Did nothing until Wells and father-sons gave him a maturing side. He left Geelong, and they aint missing him even though the glory days are long gone. And this Essendon list aint bad. I think it has won 90% of its first 8 rounds in the past 3 years.

If the Sydneyfication of Melbourne didn't eventuate, my choice for an assistant-come-coach is Matthew Lloyd. Honest, strong-mind and is happy to walk against the "Hird".

I have to disagree with just about everything you say in this post.

- The "successor" does not need to come from Sydney, that's rubbish.

- Roos was keen on Dew because he'd had the opportunity to see him coaching up close, rates his ability, and Dew has been involved with only ultimately successful clubs.

- I thought Thompson's performance this season at Essendon would only serve to make it clearer how good a coach he is, distinctly playing with the same style he had at Geelong. He built the culture at Geelong that prevails to this day.

- and Lloyd almost had me thinking you were trolling. Never will you meet a man with less personality. He's not cut out to be a head coach.

Couldnt think of a worse idea than this

please god no

We are trying to start a culture shift at the club, any of those soft average non -leader players that were our highest paid players at the club last decade (Bruce, Yze, Green, Robertson etc etc) should never be considered to be our coach, and i hope they aren't hired for any sort of coaching role at the MFC

We need to get out of 50 years of mediocrity, not continue to bring it back to the club

Tough gig after the great Roosy' era ( if things go to plan ). The players will have to respect the new guy and it could be difficult with the standard set and attachment to Roosy I imagine. But if the new guy is awesome fantastic. Brett Kirk could be that guy.I wonder if Roosy could stay involved as a footy manager or a lesser role as a consultant type deal.

Hope so.

I don't see Roosy leaving a job half done, i still believe he is getting a taste for it and will want a couple more years.

Woah.

I've never seen this footage but I do remember him being a shocker in front of the cameras. If he's the successor it's going to make for some interesting weekly pressers and coach's office segments on DeeTV.

Kirk is said to be doing well in his role as an assistant at Fremantle under Roosy's mate Rossy Lyon. The connections are all there.

I liked the way Kirk played the game - he was a clever footballer and off the field he comes across as clever, articulate and intelligent which means that he has some of the ingredients to do well as a modern day coach.

also ling, don't discount his potential.

Mark Bickley, been an assistant at Adelaide for quite some time, already had a taste of being a senior coach and did quite well, premiership captain, couple of years under Roosy and away we go?

just a spitball.

Nah Adelaide are as up as down as Daniher years Melbourne and Bickley doesn't inspire me. I don't think he even wants to be a senior coach.

He applied and was short listed for the adelaide job when Sanderson got it, so in that case he was third in line as Neeld was the one they wanted.

I wouldn't underestimate how much Kirk was talked into going down this weird path by producers, when it wasn't really his own style.

They were clearly playing on his reputation of being a meditating Buddhist and took it a step too far.

I don't think he looked comfortable saying it, but well know how much of a team player he was.

Damian Barrett, pick a number any number 1-10

No one can deny it so any number will do.

He can argue the MFC have refined the number if his guess was wrong.

By the time it happens most people have forgotten his scoop.

Muck and myth peddler. This type of journalism is pathetic.

Lets make up a story.

Lipflap said to be on third and final warning, suggestions of workplace harassment.

Lipflap's name mentioned in connection to pedophilia ring.

Sources reveal that Lipflap in talks with underworld identity.

ATO investigation into tax evasion, journalist names mentioned. We expect Lipflap to deny any wrongdoing. Charges pending

How easy is it to make stuff up.

Edit:- Name changed to Lipflap to protect the writer.

Yeah, I think we all know this, without having to say it.

You've probably crossed the line a few times in the above post...

said to be - who said?

suggestions of - who suggested?

name mentioned - by whom - the postie?

souces reveal - what sources - that postie again?

Edit: Removal of name. Don't want to cross lines.

There's a possibility that Vossy wouldn't want to come back to senior coaching AND he may be resentful that Roos indirectly cost him his job but I think he might be the bloke we need. His biggest failing (bringing in those experienced B to C graders and Fev) was bought about by his own inexperience. I get the feeling he learnt a lot through that fiasco. It ultimately cost him his job but I think while the results didn't show it, he was a better coach for it. He already had great leadership qualities. His time at Brisbane, and a year or two under Roos if he has enough humility, might be just what he needs to live up to his potential as a coach.

While what Hogan's Heroes has said is debatable, I also think that Bruce mightn't want to come back to Melbourne. He got shat on by a club that was prepared to pay and invest more in 'potential' than blokes who actually got results. Most of his teammates of that time were treated like cold fish and chips and discarded/humiliated so I don't think you will have to worry about Cam Bruce coming back as the successor.

As for Brett Kirk, as the video above shows, broadcasting wasn't his go. However, coaching may be. We will wait and see.

Oh and Damo as said earlier will throw as much as he can at the wall until something sticks or he, and his other boofhead mates, convince the MFC into selecting some flavour of the month that Damo and Hutchy's mates want us to select. Hopefully, we will make the decisions for ourselves this time rather than doing what is fashionable. Keep in mind that Hutchy and Damo and all the other nuff nuffs will excoriate us for losing experience and then will turn around and tell us we should let Frawley go so we can get a higher draft pick. Their aim is to sell papers and get ratings for TV shows, nothing more and nothing less.

Voss has already clearly stated he is not interested in getting back into coaching.

At least not yet.

We better believe him then, that would be final, as final as Roos.

No, his biggest failing was people management. The fiasco you talk about is tied in with it, he wouldn't take advice. The ego got in the way, and apart from that I don't find him a deep enough thinker of the game. I wouldn't like to see him at Melbourne.

Roos never said it as emphatically as Voss.

He really doesn't want to coach, because of the time it takes him away from his family.

I thought Voss was a possibility and was interested, but when I heard his comments I scratched him off the list completely.

Never is a very long time. He may turn up somewhere sometime, Fitzroy may be interested.

Ling WTF, I won't watch any post match interviews or anything involving him because he is so ugly and he will get grilled so badly if he wants to be a senior coach, seriously. Imagine winning 2 games a season under Ling and then having to watch him explain why. Stick to radio Lingy, you saw how bad Neeld copped it at times with his face all screwed up (sadly from a stroke) imagine how bad Ling will cop it.post-7611-0-12856600-1397722089_thumb.jp

The thing that surprised me most about this post was that it wasn't written by ENYAW.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
