DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 4

Featured Replies

6 - Frawley: masterstroke from Roos to switch him forward.

5 - Jones: completely pantsed Murphy. Bullet-like kicks. Is he officially 'elite'? Pretty close.

4 - Grimes: was starting to have doubts. Immense today.

3 - Viney: absolute gun. Extra points for his smart-alec bum tap to Warnock after Bail goal.

2 - Bail: speaking of that guy, he really proved a few wrong today (including me)

1 - McDonald (really good defensively as always and minimised errors by foot)

Apologies, Spencer, Cross (one of the recruits of the year), Dawes (worth every cent!) Matt Jones, and a few others.

3. Grimes ( lead well, always gives 100%

2. Mcdonald ( lead the backline well )

1. Bail. ( worked his ass off.)

Jake Spencer - 2 billion votes

He absolutely smashed them today, physically tormented any Blues player that he went near and made that spud Warnock cower in fear

Thankyou, jake

5. N. Jones - elite it is

4. Grimes - early on when we were clawing back he was the one clawing

3. T. McDonald - allows the best full back in the business to play forward

2. R. Bail - eating a lot of my own words

1. J. Spencer - in 3-5 years time you can just seeing having a Minson / Jacobs / Maric season

Apologies to a few others but especially Spencer and Matt Jones.

6 - Cross

5 - N Jones

4 - Frawley

3 - Bail

2 - Grimes

1 - McDonald

Apologies to Dawes, who was fantastic and gave us so much structure and confidence. Brought the ball to ground repeatedly.

6. N Jones

5. Frawley

4. McDonald

3. Cross

2. Spencer

1. Bail

6- Frawley ( was untouchable )

5 - Cross ( belied his age , and did everything so professionally)

4 - N.Jones ( lifted his game to inspire his teammates)

3 - McDonald ( if he can improve his decision making he could become elite)

2 - M. Jones ( not my favourite , but definitely played an important part today)

1 - Grimes ( lifted his game , and let little pass )

6. N Jones.... Brilliant both ways

5. Tom McDonald..... Marshalled the back line

4. Jack Viney.....would have got a 2, but gets 2 extra for the 'don't argue' chest fend in 3rd.

3. Dan Cross.....a monster of effort and intent

2. Matt Jones..... fast, smart and fit

1. James Frawley......proper effort and great marking.

Apologies to all the others.

6: Jones N: and yes, he is elite!

5: Jones the other: not elite but a bluddy good battler!

4: Spencer: agro with purpose, his best game yet!

3: Grimes: I have always liked Grimsey, and I'm glad he proved a few critics wrong!

2: Bail: the kid shouldn't be playing for his healths sake, but he did and he was good!

1: Dunn: fast becoming Mr Versatile, and a very reliable player!

And my apologies to Chris Dawes and Chip Frawley, well played.

6 N. Jones - 28 touches whilst blanketing Murphy. Huge

5 Spencer - fought (literally and figuratively). Plays for the jumper more than any other

4 Frawley - involved in everything going forward

3 Dawes - Gave the rest of the side hope, how much he touched it is irrelevant

2 McDonald - Blanketed Henderson when one on one several times

1 Viney - sensation, set the tone

Honourable mention to M. Jones and Bail both of who's run were amazing. If all our players ran to receive like these guys we'd be a good side.

Each of these were the tone setters so to say.

6. N Jones. I am beginning to think he might be our best since Flower.

5. Frawley.

4. Spencer. He is a big doofuss, but his aggression and second efforts are inspiring.

3. Bail. I am a huge fan, but posted about 10 days ago that I didn't think he would make it. 10 tackles, 2 goals and ran all day. Wow.

2. Grimes. Poise, grunt and balance, and limited the turnovers.

1. Cross.

Having Dawes changed our playing shape and his work off the ball was amazing.

T Mac was back to his best today, and like Grimes, limited his turnovers.

Love the way Viney, Bail and Evans attack a contest - run in and cause havoc.

Had almost 22 classy performers today - very hard to split the votes

6 Frawley

5 N Jones

4 Grimes

3 Viney

2 M Jones

1 Bail (best game of his career)

Also super impressed with Dunn (am starting to think he's one of our top 5 players on the list), McDonald, JKH, Kent (he's everything Tapscott can do, but better), and Dawes.

Nathan Jones (This bloke deserves a Brownlow)

Frawley (Best game I've seen him play in about 3 years)

Spencer (Best game I've seen him play)

Grimes ( Don't knock him - Captain's game)

Viney (Provides grunt)

Mc Donald ( Better and better)

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
