Our list is better.....

Call me mental but I honestly believe our list is in better shape then Carlton. The difference is that our players don't believe it.

For players under the age of 22, they rank 18th in terms of quality.

Judd is gone, even though he is a "great" of the game, he's not playing against us so it doesn't matter.

Kreuzer, how watts cops more flak then this bloke is beyond me, he's gone.

Ok they have murphy, Simpson and .............................. Who, Gibbs? Warnock? Walker? Yarran?

Yes on their day they are good, but that's on their day.

We have players go can match this mob.

The difference between these two teams is that Melbourne players don't believe they are better whilst Carlton players eg Robinson take delight and truly believe the are.

This is Roos' challenge this week.

Carltons list isn't fantastic imo, Mick Malthouse has had two cracks at the trade and free agency period and not managed to recruit one key position player, despite that being the obvious glaring hole in the team

They needed to push very hard for Boyd last year, and i believe if this year continues the way it's going they may be a team we deal with if we trade a high pick later given all the top end key position players.

Right now:

Ruck: Warnock > Spencer

2nd ruck: Rowe is no worse than Fitzpatrick

Tall forwards: Henderson and Waite > Frawley and Dunn +/- Dawes

Tall defenders: Jamison and White no worse than Pedersen, McDonald

Half back flank: Simpson and Walker better than Grimes and Terlich

Small forwards: Garlett and Menzel better than what we role out

But in none of those areas (maybe HBF) are they head and shoulders above what we have.

And main midfield mix:

Murphy - Jones

Thomas - Vince

Carrazzo - Cross

Gibbs - Tyson

Curnow - McKenzie

Robinson - Viney

Yarran - Watts

Bell - Evans

If the thread is about future talent then yeah I think if we finally start to develop kids and a team our future should trend up, Carlton's will trend down. But in terms of talent 22 v 22 this weekend they have us covered. But it's not by a significant margin and every player should feel comfortable they can beat their individual opponent.

I think we have a better list but too many of our 22 do noy perform at an AFL standard level. I think we can improve alot during the course of this season by working towards fielding a team where each player performs their role to the required standard.

I wouldnt say we are a good chance but at $10 a Melbourne win represents value.

The main thing they have over us is senior experience in players like Murphy, Simpson, Waite, Judd, Robinson, Walker, Carrazzo, Thomas etc.

This is what every side has over us, because of our rubbish development and drafting. If you peeled those blokes off or took them away until our experience was comparable then yes, we'd have a better list. But at the moment we do not.

Footnote: I have enormous respect for Kade Simpson. He's tough, hard working and very under rated as a player. What is also great is how well he has done as midfielder considering his size. I wish he played for us.

They needed to push very hard for Boyd last year, and i believe if this year continues the way it's going they may be a team we deal with if we trade a high pick later given all the top end key position players.

Given we have just had our number 1 KPF walk out on us, and that we are likely to get a top pick in a draft that has some good KPP talent at the top end, WTF would we want to trade our hig picks to a team who is also looking to fill the same need as us?

If we have pick 1, we take the best player. If it's a KPP, we either groom him to play CHB (if Frawley leaves), or we shift Hogan to the backline for the first couple of years of his playing career, and look to trade in a designated defender when/if we start to push for finals (potentially allowing us to shift Hogan back forward). Dawes is a one-trick pony who we need to keep on the track. His sole trick can be a bloody valuable asset to our forward line if he stays fit for the next 5 years.

If Frawley does leave and we get pick 2 as well, then we trade it to a club who offers the best ready-made player (midfielder). With Adelaide suffering draft sanctions, I'd imagine they would be a club willing to look at a potential trade of a (potential) Frawley/compo pick.

I can't see anyone on Carlton's list that would be worthy of a pick 2, even if it involves other clubs. The other thing that will likely stop any trade with Carlton is that on current form, they will be getting a pick in the Top 5 anyway, so there will be a strong chance they will be able to get a KPP through that pick, without the need of having to give up "something" to improve their draft order 1 or 2 spots.

As bad as Spenser has been he has Warnock covered so far this year in most stats by ave. They are as bad as each other.

The difference at the moment between us and almost everybody is they have multiple experienced players who drive the player group from within.

We would seem to be trying to address that hole but when players like Frawley,Watts etc. make comments suggesting they just need someone to lead and drive the group it worries me, because these are the guys that should be stepping up, not waiting for someone else to take charge.

I would love to have a Judd and Murphy to help Jones lead this team both on and off the field.

The other glaring difference is our lamentable skill level, we make poor decisions and then amplify that with terrible disposal.

Our list is easily the poorest in AFL bar none, which reflects our current position.

I remember last year Warnock beat Spencer against Carlton. Spencer was rubbish against Mumford but had been ok before that. If he is ever going to be an AFL ruck he has to beat Warnock this week. But yes it's unlikely to be the defining match up for the game but it's one match up we have to win if we are to get anywhere in this game.

Spencer has played 27 games ffs. Give him time.

Gee whiz, I mean, I know some of the performances are unacceptable, but half our list on game day has played less than 50 games.

How do u do your job u spend far to much time here.

Although you have sporadically put this out generally to the whole of D'land, i shall assume you are referring to me as i just accosted you in another thread. It's called School Holidays baby, 12 weeks a year and we are very underpaid i may add ;)

Other than that, recess/lunch times i like to check in and see what the knuckle heads on here are arguing about, and throw in my two bobs worth where i can. Makes me feel better discussing my insipid football club with other people that are feeling the same pain as I.

I think we have a better young list , but they are more developed than us.

In a year or two we will win this game, right now id say they are still ahead.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
