Anyone who witnessed the game care to comment on Clisby's disposal please ?

He made a couple of errors but who doesn't.

I think he should be in the seniors next week It is not as though there are no spots up for grabs.

Hunt: Very impressive flashes throughout the game. This kid is quick. At ¼ time he was the only one the coach singled out for taking the game on which was funny because the coach slagged the playing group for playing the ‘Paul Roos game’ of high possession, and maintaining the ball. It was interesting as I then looked to Trengove who had a perplexed look on his face!

This...if true is not good. He was reported as slagging the Neeld game plan last year.

You must have a consistent message.

Old Dee, Salem?

A good question RtG the match sheet did not show him But his number was supposed to be 64

There was a guy playing in 64 however he did look like Salem to me ( however I have only seen him once in Training attire).

I don't think he played.

If he was in 64 then he put in an average performance at best.

I hope it was not Salem

I think he has rjay and it works.

Got Casey into the top four in 2013 and as usual was robbed of his MFC players.

No idea if he would be a good AFL coach but he seems to know how to get the best from his players.

In the couple of Casey games I saw and a couple on TV I saw in 2013 and then yesterday.

I think given an even break he could snag an VFL flag.

The guy is no dill.

Now is he on the same page as PR?

Don't know but one would image he would not keep his job if he said We did not win or make the finals but I did what PR told me.

Also interesting that a couple of the line coaches eg. Brad Miller are from the MFC so one would think they are towing the basic PR line.

PS Miller looked like he could have pull on the boots and played yesterday.

In very good nick.

I would also like to know how Salem is progressing. Tyson looks good, accumulates and will get better. Kelly looks like being a star for GWS. If Salem comes up trumps we will/should be in front on that deal.

Gee, I wish I had a dollar for every time I have heard this about a young player after 1 or 2 games, I would be a very rich man

Very surprised to hear Welsh was slagging off the "Paul Roos game".

That sounds particularly worrisome to me.

Difficult to develop players the way you want when the Casey coach I openly potting the gameplan, coaching in a diametrically opposed manner, and playing MFC players out of the positions intended.

Very concerning.

If that is to continue, I'd like to see the club flex its muscle a little, and suggest we may look to a stand alone team next season, a proposition that would see Casey fold and MFC pick up the pieces.

Not ideal, but neither is the current situation, if things are being reported accurately.

Frankly I don't care if Welsh's message changes week to week, as long as it is consistent with Roos' message at the time.

It's not to say that MFC should call all the shots, but there has to be some continuity between the 2 levels for it to be beneficial for MFC to prop up Casey.

If Welsh continues to contradict Roos, I'll openly campaign for Welsh's removal as coach.

That is an untenable situation and Welsh should know better.

If he comes in, more than likely Murphy. And i realise Simpson plays of HB but he's often involved in many of their forward thrusts when he gets loose, running hard to create options through the middle. Shutting one of these 2 down will help our cause to some extent and possibly limit the scoreboard damage.

I wouldn't mind seeing Clisby in as defensive half forward playing on Simpson. hopefully Clisby could give some hurt our way.

McKenzie should come in.

Interesting. On the pre-game on SEN yesterday Paul Roos was interviewed. In his quiet, subtle way Roos talked about the importance of Casey as a development team in a way that seemed to suggest a disconnect between the MFC and Casey. The discussion was measured and one way (that is none of the SEN crew picked up what Roos was talking about) so Roos had to stress the word "development" a number of times. Perhaps I inferred something that wasn't meant, but I was left with the strong impression was that Roos is unhappy with how Casey is handling his expectations of what he wants Casey to do with MFC listed players.

I sense the days of Coalition clubs are almost at en end... it doesn't seem to work well for anyone.

Personally, I think Clisby is a distant 4th behind Grimes, Strauss and Terlich in terms of half back flankers.

Easily ahead of Terlich and Strauss

Could even make a case for him ahead of Grimes

OD, if we keep dishing up these horrible performances and you keep turning up at Casey, you might even get a berth in the seniors as sub. Got a trench coat?

Seriously doubt a trench coat would fool them RN.

Been to a few Casey games over the last five years but probably never to actually see them play always as the MFC seconds.

Never enjoyed a game like yesterday , strange as it sounds I did even get the MfC score had the radio but did not turn it on.

Just enjoyed watching a game that was fun.

I have had quite a few of those in recent years watching Uni Blacks.

I am discovering a footy life after the MFC.

Will want to change soon as going elsewhere is fun watching the MFC is pain on a long term basis.

That worries me. It signals that some are pushing for him to get straight back in. I reckon we keep Trenners and Toumpas in there for a bit longer. They need to be kicking the door in to get a senior game. It was the same kind of paper tiger, faux tough guy crap Neeld pulled. Drop a bloke and then bring him back in after a week in the Magoos. Make blokes earn their bloody spot!

I agree Col. Also i don't think we can afford to carry slow across the ground players any more. There's enough of them in the team already IMO. Adding Toumpas and Trengove (as well as possibly McKenzie?) would turn an already tortoise paced team back into a lead footed one.

I'm not sure Blease is the answer but i'd be giving him a few weeks, as well as Clisby and Strauss, before looking again at either Toump or Trengove. Toump is very efficient by foot but both him and Trengove are too slow with their decision making and disposal at this stage.

IMO Clisby, if given enough senior game time and faith, should offer more than Strauss, Blease, Bail, Evans, Byrnes, Grimes or Terlich. Although i'm not as negative on Terlich as many here. I think he's a work in progress that still has significant upside if given a fair chance to develop and improve his disposal and decision making at Casey for at least a significant part of this season anyway and another look towards the end in the seniors. He does have a good burst of speed and takes the game on, but... the clangers..and the poise... ughhh.

Edit: One thing Clisby would need to have improved on though is his clangers. He was equal clanger king with Terlich last season, followed close behind by Viney, Spencer and Pedo.

All he said was to stop stuffing around with it across half back, and to take the bloody game on through the middle. I reckon in the VFL that's going to be pretty much the same message coming out from most coaches, it's crazy to expect that they can maintain possession to a high degree, as obviously they're not AFL standard.

Having said that - I'd love Melbourne to have their own team. Especially if I don't have to go out to that spectator unfriendly Casey ground ever again.

Trengove continued to look backwards as his first option which was a little disappointing - I've noticed he's been doing that for 3 weeks now. Safe option for someone who doesn't have the weapons to take the game on.

Not the greatest game to watch but pretty exciting last 5 minutes!

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
