2012 ... potentially our best intake (draft/trade) year?

Plus chris Dawes.

But it's a year where we got a good balance of something for now and something for later.

All depends of Toumpas, Kent and Barry. Whilst it might not happen we do have legitimate belief in Viney and Hogan as future stars.

The Geelong dynasty was built on 15 or so gun players drafted/traded in a period between 1999 and 2002 I think. Scarlett, Mooney, Harley, Chapman, Bartel, Ablett, Ling, Corey, Enright, Mackie, Kelly.

The saints good run really centered around Hayes, Ball, Montagna, Dal Santo, Riewoldt and Kosi all coming around the same time.

No doubt that a crop of champions brought in together can be built around. So far we haven't turned top picks in to anything like elite players though so challenge is on for Roos. Hogan and Viney will be impressive if we can stuff them up. And there's still Watts, Trengove, Tyson, Toumpas and Salem after that!

Potential! Potential! Mate I admire your positivity but we have been hanging on potential for years. I greedily scan those adds on this site that have a remarkable number of ,apparently, loose women living four miles from me. All potential roots but have i've had none of it. Potential? Let's sees a bloody first round win!!!

New Recruiting Staff 2012 and the list looks good after the failure of Barry Prendergast 2011 Draft only Mitch Clark survives, 2009 at least 4 survive and yes would also say Paul Roos is the start of a positive for the Dees

Potential confuses me too. We swapped to kilometres years ago and my nearest bordello would be 60 kms away ! I'll climax with you !

Draft ..Jimmy Toumpas, Jack Viney Dean Kent, Dean Terlich and Matt Jones Trade Jesse Hogan and Dom Barry

You conveniently forgot to mention Pederson, Rodan, Byrnes & Gillies. I suspect that on balance it was an average year and that the 2013 year with Cross, Vince, Mitchie, Tyson, Salem, Hunt, JKH, Clisby and Reilly will prove its equal or better [even though we got robbed of priority picks despite only winning two games in the season]. Also the possibility of one or two rookies working out.

Bring this up again in 2018.

Until then, you are hoping it all works out.

Except Hogan and Viney...

They are going to be great.

Agree about Hogan and Viney, but I wouldn't discount what greatness the Toump can achieve. As for Matt Jones, Dean Kent and the Rst of '12 class, they will be very good too. Have high hopes for Clisby. He looks a likely sort and will be a great pick up for us from the Rookie Draft.

Lets not load all our hopes and dreams on Hoges and Viney only, they can't do it on their own. Many here have jumped off the Toump bandwagon, but not me! He showed class, skill and time towards the end of last year coming off a low base. I for one have not forgotten his games against the Bulldogs (both),Geelong, Crows and North. What about those kicks to set up Watts and Dunn. The kid doesn't deserve to be thrown out with the bath water just yet.

2009 has already been noted, and there was a moment when 2008 looked like the best draft ever - when Jack Watts was still 'the next big thing with time' when Blease looked like he'd be a speedy crazy attack machine, Jetta and Bennell looked like steals, Liam Jurrah was sending the crowds crazy, Jordie McKenzie was a tackling machine and Rohan Bail looked like a handy hard-running player.

2007 looked like a long list of steals and smoky wins, from Morton and Grimes to Wonneamirri and Martin.

Sigh.

But I do still feel pretty confident about this crop. Perhaps because there are more 'known quantities' in the mix, like Vince and Cross and to an extent even Tyson.

I have been saying that every year about our recruiting since 1964, we are now in it to challenge the best.

I think I have been right on about 6 occasions. = 12%

That equates to our winning percentage over the past few years.

So that says I should shut the F. U. and don't mention potential.

Your honesty is refreshing, best laugh I have had today.

keep going with your success rate it is more likely to rise.

Still I said that in 2012.

So I should probably shut the F.U. as well.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
