Hey RP, I'm quite sure when Webjet first signed up you didn't rush to check their shareprice. From memory you were right up them, and even signed off your posts for a period of time with their name. You were happy to hold out your hand and accept their money then, even though you had access to 3 year charts, etc.

And I just love how you're an expert in hindsight. At the time we didn't see the Energy Watch debacle, again, we were too busy jizzing thinking about the mount they gave us, and then again when Opel came on board.

An ASX200 company does offer that comfort of knowing they are financially stable (to some degree, obviously that can change). I think that was my point all along about the presser and PJ's words? That said, it doesn't mean they are bullet proof, and given the state of the world economy, anything can change overnight.

For my benefit, given your knowledge of the AHG (AHE) shareprice, can you tell me why back in 2007/2008 their sharprice went from $4.43 to $0.42?

Maybe the market heard a rumour they were about to sponsor Melbourne.

I'd hazard a guess that it had something to do with the Global Financial Crisis and the share market crash.

But to be quite honest I don't care if they are listed or not, as long as they have a strong balance sheet and the desire to sponsor us I'm happy.

I raised alarm bells from the start with Energy Watch and questioned on here how they could pay us $2M per year when their turnover was only $32M.

Just having a quick look at their financials. They have current assets of $1.1Billion & Liabilities of $900 million. With a profit of around 72-3 million. Turnover of $4.27billion. I'm guessing their profit margins & debt were pretty tight during the 2007-08/GFC period, but that is pure speculation on my part. As we know many companies were squeezed during that time so that would be my guess.

I learn from bitter experience.

And when Webjet and Opel came on board we were about to start the 2012 season. They were a beacon in the night.

I think we will finish it here, just let people enjoy the stability attained.

Plus they were sponsoring two other sports teams. The Facebook rants were the best possible outcome for Melbourne.

I wagree with that.

Wouldn't suprise me if those rants were done for that reason.

If that sponsorship had been alive for any longer it would have got very messy.

Regardless of the to-ing and fro-ing in this thread, I'm just glad that we have a long-term sponsor in place. The fact that it's a reputable company is fantastic and the most important thing for me. That they are an ASX200 company is a cheery on top, I apologise that I'm neither here or there with cherries.

It is great that the current regime are signing these reputable companies for a purpose other than keeping their jobs.

I welcome any reputable company to invest in the MFC, whether private, publicly listed, ASX200 companies. As long as they pay and we use their money wisely.

I also congratulate GB for using his private networks for the benefit of the MFC. Without him on board, it would be doubtful that we would have the AHG sponsorship, but I'm sure with PJ, it would've been some other reputable company.

Food for thought. What has been achieved in the last six or so months is nothing short of amazing. Plaudits to all. This all accomplished coming effectively off the floor, actually climbing through broken floor boards after having fallen through do the dank and squalid basement ( and not the type of heated underground we might prefer )

So lets give us a year of stability and competitive play, where to then ?

Yes, weve got the jumper ads spoken for but whats to stop the club doing what the other 'heeled' ones do and build a substantial coterie of next in line sponsors. I know we already have a few, but would you stop there ?

Melbourne was once a revered name in this competition. Its been on the nose for more than i care to remember. With the right people ( and it seems we're well on the way here ) and the right image we could once again become a magnet for those wanting something "Melbourne " about them.

Opinion and popularity can be fragile commodities. But something only has to change a modicum on occasions and a few only have to get on board and suddenly you're de rigueur again.

Though we can happily forget our recent years and in respect to the footy one will include this years also but in years to come we will look back on 2013 fondly. Thats when it all began.

Interesting times ahead. Looking forward to next year and beyond thanks in part to the ilk of AHG and what they bring to all of this.

I put this on another thread and then thought I have put in the wrong spot so here goes again.

Over the years I have tried to use the "Sponsors" of the MFC.

With limit success I have to report unfortunately.

My major success was iPrimus.

The not so goods were mostly either too costly compared to their competitors or simply appeared poor from my contacts.

e.g. I bought Kaspersky virus protection and it did not want to download properly onto my computer.

I contacted them and was told " oh we get a bit of that do you want your money back" .

Fairly quick resolution but I have often wondered why they did not try and fix the problem.

A couple of weeks ago I started looking for a new Car so I checked out the AHG dealerships.

I have been to the brand dealer I am interested in and so far the experience has been ordinary.

Not exactly rushed off my feet and their price is approx. $3000 more than a couple of other quotes I have had for the exact same car.

Doubt I will be buying from AHG at this rate.

I have a theory that because the MFC are not a "sort after Club" we end up with sponsors that are a fair way below the large successful companies.

Do we get the also-rans and subsequently get the same level of service?

Or am I just unlucky?

I dunno.

I think it's just as easy to go to McDonald's and get poor service, even though they'd be seen as an absolute blue chip sponsor.

With such a big company, with so many dealerships and salespeople, you're bound to get poor service somewhere.

And in the end, I couldn't care less if they have competitive prices.

I just won't support them as a sponsor, and that's of their own doing.

As far as suitability to be a sponsor of our club, I'm more than happy to have them.

I am having great success with Tyrell's - just picked up half a dozen Brokenback Shiraz plus six of their pricier whites. And I always let them know it's because they sponsor the Dees.

My experience over the years in dealing with our sponsors has been Poor.

And I am wondering if the only Major ones we can get are at the poor end of the scale.

I dropped the MFC membership early in the first conversation. Perhaps that pushed the price up.

The sales person probably supports Collingwood.

It was not just the price

And why should I bb?

The other dealers are giving me a cheaper price without any push from me.

My gut feel was that the sales person did not see me as a potential customer.

But the others did.

Do you think we get second rate companies sponsoring the MFC?

Potentially.

But if you look at how AHG has performed as a company, I'd probably say they're a successful one, not ordinary.

As an individual, having a bad experience, I don't think that necessarily reflects on the organisation as a whole.

It may do, it may not.

But if we're getting our sponsorship money, at a good rate, the sponsor is successful and sustainable, happy with the partnership, and looking like continuing beyond this contract... should we really be worried about anything else?

Id communicate your experience to someone at AHG. in nice way.. along lines of you tried to support a sponsor but left flat by experience etc
