Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

not sure of other clubs status but for the MFC having an ASX 200 company on our letter head should help create more businesz

If LDC's comments are correct, and that roughly 14 or so clubs don't have an ASX200 company as their major sponsor, I think it's a case of WGAF?! Without confirming the comments, it appears as though the big 4 Vic clubs (Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon, Richmond) don't care so much - probably gives us an indication as to what the ASX200 title means to most clubs.

I think PJ mentioning it in the presser was probably more for our (supporters) benefit. He did make a comment along the lines of knowing that we will have their income for at least the next 3 years, then used that ASX200 line as assurance. More bells and whistles, with the ultimate goal to sell memberships. It'll work, and in no way am I being critical of it, just that the days of me getting excited about receiving MFC showbags is long past.

Someone mentioned yesterday (Sue I think it was) how the AFL website had minimal coverage/articles about our new sponsor signing. Watching the presser makes it pretty obvious that outside of the MFC circles, no one gives one. When PJ opened up for questions, there was a pause, then they spent the best part of 10 minutes talking about captains, how the players have come back, Jesse Hogan and who the senior assistant will be. PJ & PR tried to bring the new sponsor in to most replies, but the journo's couldn't care less and changed back to the original question quite quickly.

The AFL have said bugger all about our sponsorship but hey there is an article on how we spent $1.45M

Melbourne 'restructure' cost $1.45 million

Nothing like concentrating on the positives!!!!

Let's face it until we starting winning we are sitting ducks.

Let's not forget that our two major sponsors from 2013 haven't "stuck around" under the new management. Sure, Opel weren't finanically in a situation to go again, but I've not heard why Webjet opted out (can't imagine it's financial issues). It's also interesting that Webjet are in fact a publicly listed company - something PJ was very quick to promote about AHG.

I don't disagree about the breath of fresh air, and I'm as excited as anyone about the new regime, but I am also not getting caught up in all the bells and whistles.

I cant remember where i heard it or if i read it on here,

I heard that webjet were interested in jumping on board with the cats. Something about someone senior in webjet being involved/supporting Geeling and the fact the Ford ceasing production in Australia they might be scaling down their sponsorship of the cats. Not 100% where i got this from tho.

As a matter of interest, which other clubs have an ASX 200 company as a sponsor. I think Fremantle has (or had in 2013) Woodside. Does Sydney still have QBE?

Hawthorn are sponsored by an ASX 200 company. I can say, as an employee of said company, that's not a wow factor for footy clubs.

What about if your club had a sponsor that dissolved after one Facebook scandal, another that has pulled out of the country entirely, and one that has lost nearly half it's value on the ASX in the past four months?

It's quite clear RP, that this was a sales push from PJ to potential members, and reassurance to other members.

I'm amazed you don't see that, but you did admit to liking bells and/or whistles.

I also find it interesting that you failed to mention that the AHG shareprice dropped over 30% in Q2 2013.

But it is if you have been down to the Earth's core for the last 7 years as we have.

We can now plan to stand up against the big clubs going forward...

That does mean something. Winning is even more critical.

Help drive the sponsor, not be a burden.

3 year trends.

Do you want to be on the one going up or the one going down?

And leave the patronisation to those who can pull it off...

Oh dear. I guess, like stats on a footy field, market trends over "x" amount of time can be used to suit any argument. The fact that the Webjet shareprice hasn't performed as well as a totally unrelated company over the past 3 years is an amateur argument from your side.

You're getting way off the point anyway. You were frothing about getting an ASX200 company on board, I couldn't give a toss about it, it was proved that a majority of other clubs don't give a toss about it, so then, in true RP fashion, you went for anything to prove you know more (hence bringing up about the shareprice performance of AHG and Webjet - something that has nothing to do with the original points being raised). Your posts are really boring when you get off topic.

You admonished me for not providing the numbers for both companies.

I provide the numbers for both companies, go back 3 years for both, and you are having a go at me for providing the numbers.

And how is this frothing:

Jackson mentioned the ASX200 - a group which Webjet is certainly not a member of.

That's one whistle or bell that impressed me...

You must see me as a passionless automaton if that is frothing.

The point is they are on a sounder financial footing than any major sponsor we have had for a while and that is why Jackson mentioned the point of fact that they are in the ASX200. And why I am more comfortable with them than with EnergyWatch, Opel, and Webjet.

According to their respective annual reports - AHG made a net profit after tax 10 times that of Webjet.

How is that not comforting to you?

And how can you sit there and judge our relief so sardonically?

Jeez I'm glad they are a sponsor of ours it gives us 3 years to show them we are worth the money and if we perform well enough and if they perform well enough we might get a long term sponsor at last.

Hope they never read land, they may terminate immediately.

I do. We've had sponsors in the past whose stability to say the least left a lot to be desired, then we had some jump in to pick up cheap publicity as the white knights and now we have a sponsor who is stable and wanting to be with us for at least the next 3 years.

It gives us stability at the start of the pre season, something we haven't had for a while and it matters to our football club, I don't care what other clubs give a toss about. They haven't had our level of poor administration and off field disasters leading to a total on field melt down.

Good work Jackson and Bartlett.

Apart from anything else it means one less forum topic for the next 3 years.

Hey RP, I'm quite sure when Webjet first signed up you didn't rush to check their shareprice. From memory you were right up them, and even signed off your posts for a period of time with their name. You were happy to hold out your hand and accept their money then, even though you had access to 3 year charts, etc.

And I just love how you're an expert in hindsight. At the time we didn't see the Energy Watch debacle, again, we were too busy jizzing thinking about the mount they gave us, and then again when Opel came on board.

An ASX200 company does offer that comfort of knowing they are financially stable (to some degree, obviously that can change). I think that was my point all along about the presser and PJ's words? That said, it doesn't mean they are bullet proof, and given the state of the world economy, anything can change overnight.

For my benefit, given your knowledge of the AHG (AHE) shareprice, can you tell me why back in 2007/2008 their sharprice went from $4.43 to $0.42?

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
