Went low key atmosphere

First players to get the training the house down moniker were McDonald and spencer

Both looked super fit and we're leading their respective running groups

Some drills kicking and running

Mitch looked good doing a lot of jogging at moderate pace

Pedo not much trimmer

Toumpas also looked sharp

Let me know how to post photos and I will

I doubt it comes into it. Public holidays don't mean anything in the world of footy any other time of year, I can't believe they would even notice that one.

It is only a public holiday in Melbourne, not Geelong or any other states. It might not even be one in Casey, we could just train them there!

The players have been enjoying a public holiday every Queens Birthday the last few years, they clearly didnt turn up to work!

Just back from training. Started about 9.30 with warmups.

Was an injured group who mostly did handball and light running at half pace, short distances.Tthey were;

Hogan
Viney
Tapscott
michie (I think)

Tyson

Not at training;
Jamar
N jones
Garland
Frawley
Vince
Watts

Dawes

After kick to kick the main group broke into three groups of four or five and did about ten 300 m run throughs at top pace. It gave a very good indication of their condition early in pre season. Here are the groups with an overall score out of ten. Roos personally timed each run through and seemed to be discussing every detail with Misson

Howe 8
Grime 8
Nicho 8
Trengove 8

McDonald 8
Toumpas 8
Clisby 3
m jones 3

Spence 8
Maxy. 5
Fitzy 7
Terlich 6

Clark not fit and only did light laps. Does not look at all fit.

Issues of note:

Trengove and Toumpas look significantly fitter than last year.
Spencer is we ahead of Gawn on current fitness. Max has a lot to make up.

Thanks Dees. Just a quick question, is that your score for them out of 10 or is it an official beep score kinda thing?

Also, that is reeeeeeally worrying about Clark/ Didn't expect him to be doing much, but hope it's not as bad as what you saw.

^^^^ lol

Boys, it is from this point forward that they improve their fitness.

No-one has a 'big October' on the track.

It's usually a big October AT the track.

Updates on fitness levels on THE FIRST DAY of Pre Season will not produce much insight into 2014.

Who's asking for fitness levels or expecting a "big October"?

All I asked was if his "scores" were made up or were official ratings, and was concerned by how bad he made Clark sound.

Feel free to just avoid this thread if you're one of those who likes to constantly say "it's only October", or "the real stuff is miles away", some of us like to hear about what's happening.

I was at the Royal Derby in Fitzroy yesterday and Spencer, Frawley and Rawlings as well as Petterd were all there. Spencer didn't drink too much, but Frawley had quite a few beers. Frawley said pre season didn't start for a few weeks when I asked him.

It will be his own rating out of 10 as to where their current fitness levels are at.

Clark has been doing laps since he was given the all clear. It'll be quite a while before he will get any form of fitness level back up again. Though last I heard he is coming along well.

Yeah I'd heard Mitch was making gradual progress, hence the concern at how bad Dees made it sound.

Pre-season doesn't start for a few weeks for players who have been playing more than 4 years (I think). Part of the new EBA.

Was a decent session. Kicking wasn't under pressure but seemed sharp.

Was mostly running, and the boys were encouraging eachother well.

Good to see Grimes very vocal.

Clark was running.

Roos seemed to be delegating a lot to Jade Rawlings.

Clark looked really ginger at times, but I don't know how he's expected to look compared to other elite athletes when he has barely run for 18 months. He did plenty of laps and did them okay.

That sounds better. That was more like what I was expecting... Cheers.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
