I'd rather use pick 20 for Zac Jones..

With you there. The Sylvia compo would be what I would give them; it will be interesting to see where it falls.

There are other clubs after Vince and our pick 20 is not that far ahead of our opposition so we may be forced to use it; if we get pick 21 for Sylvia it makes little difference anyway.

I think to part with pick 20 for Vince, the club would first have to be sure that he brings more to the playing group than just playing ability, such as leadership & work ethic.

They're the intangible qualities that could potentially help make someone like a Toumpas into a star.

I doubt we'll get pick 21 for Sylvia. & if im not mistaken I believe we have already 'committed' to taking Z.Jones with pick 20.. Hopefully we don't fail to keep those promises like we have in the past and miss out on a gun player .. aka Rory Sloane and Rockliff...

When did we commit to that?

You're horribly horribly mistaken.

I'll just let that hang... watch the tumbleweed roll by until you figure it out...

lol yeah bout the Zac Jones thing. Probably .. just reporting what I've read.

For pick 20, we'd have to be getting Vince AND Lyons.

I don't care if there's a swap of 3rd round picks or something to go along with it.

You get your instant class, and a fringe mid with plenty of years in him.

I'd still not be thrilled giving up pick 20 for that return, but I suppose that's the trouble with being in our position.

Where did you read that? Link?

ffs what do some ppl want with picks ?

We've got a 2nd rounder, we may get another for Hi-ho .we have to use them. We WILL pay overs this year and maybe until we're seen as legitimate.

You can only deal in the market as it IS, not how you may LIKE it to be. Utterly no point getting stroppy and us ending up with 6 picks and nothing really injected into the team.

We're building. we're starting from low. it WILL take a number of years before we can be super clever about the WHO of what we get.

Also keep in mind we arent the only team who has to pay overs atm to get anyone. We arent in isolation here.

Its like any property market..Sometimes supply and demand dot make it easy. Sometimes whats on offer doesnt always gel with your expextations. Its then up to you to decide whether it will do the job for a period of time before you can uptrade etc

We arent going to fix all our ills in one preseason. We just need to get a bit competitive and build upon that.

They want "ready made" but they aren't willing to give up anything for it. They need to realise that drafting is a gradual process that isn't restricted to one year and one draft, it is a constant that needs to be chipped at every year. Where we are at this year is the need to get in some maturity, and that means overlooking some promising youngsters, and yes, using highish draft pics on other clubs' excess stock.

In saying that though I would be [censored] if our need for maturity sees us miss out on Chunk Jnr. I fall for the romanticism of the idea of the Wines/Viney & Jones brothes combos and feel let down when they don't eventuate. Knowing our luck we miss out on Zak and he becomes better than his brother.

Um, ok... you do realise that that particular Facebook page is possibly a less reliable source of information than the Trade/Draft Rumour Mill topic on this very forum.

Its on par with everything else.. Nothing is a reliable source these days.. 95% of rumours so far this year have fallen through.

Very true - which a why it's pretty stupid to go around regurgitating them as fact.

I believe the rumours that give us the best players for the least cost.

The other ones are garbage.

Reckon you're on the money there - starting to believe we will keep our higher picks....get more talent....get good coaches around them.

We should be setting ourselves up to win a premiership, as well as improve short term.

I'll be entirely OK if the club only traded on picks 40ish or below.

Pick up "Paul Roos style" bargain midfielders that are either looking for more opportunity, homesick or on the rise and seeking more cash than their current club can give. eg. Michie, Lyons, Myers

If clubs want more than pick 40...next please!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
