cant see Ainters getting a band one for NDS.... too long in tooth for that. he might snare a band 2 on a really good day. Band 3 most likely. keep in mind compo is weighted to the NEW contract.. and that wont be trucks of bullion

They are pushing for it and trying to get this confirmed before this goes through.

Love to know whats actually been offered us for #2. its the first live pick for an upcoming gun of a mid. Youd think someone would value that rather highly.

Still worse case scenario that same said gun will be ours !! :)

I know it's only rumours at this stage, but the Sydney interest intrigues me.

I wonder who has piqued their interest, making it worth trading young premeirship players for a top 5 pick?

Who do they expect to go in the top 5 that they are keen on landing?

On another note, I'm really not sure a lockdown small defender, even a topline one like Nick Smith, plus a good mid is enough to want tk let go of pick 2.

Really, it's quality mids we need, not small defenders.

If that's the case, giving up pick 2 and only getting one mid back is not enough, considering the mids I expect the swans to offer.

The mid should be the hero of a pick 2 trade, and Luke Parker or Craig Bird just don't do it for me.

It won't be Mitchell, Hanneberry or Jack.

To me, that makes it a poor trade.

Josh Kennedy and another player (Rohan or Jetta ideally, but unlikely) for pick 2. I'd want more back than just Kennedy, given that he's 25. He won't have those 8 eights left in him. Kennedy and Parker is dream scenario, but never going to happen. I'd float the latter though.

Dream scenario:

pick 2 = L. Shuey + pick 44
Pick 19 + M.Jamar = D. Shiel
Pick 20 (Sylvia Compo) = TAC Cup Inside Midfielder (ie Dunstan/Sheed/M.Jones)
Pick 37 = S.Savage
Pick 44 = TAC Inside midfielder
Pick 58 = State Leigue VFL/SANFL small forward
Pick 76 = D. Cross
Rookie 1: N.Duigan
Rookie 2: Best availible

Midfield of = Shuey, Shiel, Pick 20 TAC Midfielder, Savage, Cross, Duigan and pick 44. Not bad if I say so myself

Cross is a DFA and costs no pick for no impact on out Silvia compo. Also, we already have M Jones on our list ;)

I'm really worried about us trading pick two for average to good footballers then watching Aish etc blossom into stars.

As opposed to keeping the pick, and selecting the one player in the top 10 that for whatever reason never comes on..?

I'll back the footy dept to use it well.

It may not buy us the greatest talent, but it may buy is the culture to get the best out of our talent in the future.

Surely that's worth a lot. To us, at least.

We won't though. The brains trust is NOW a bit too cluey ( back then....well..... )

We're playing for keeps now, we're playing with the big boyz and we aren't taking prisoners.

It's someone decent or the draft. I'm sure as per 55's ideas there's been a little bit of fact finding in putting the #2 on the table but as long as you're for real its all good .

I have faith...it's been a long while...lol

I tend to agree with you.

Our efforts at choosing the wonder child have been a disaster so far.

The other neglected subject is we need some improvement in 2014 even if it is only modest.

The MFC cannot go on getting belted by 10 goals most weeks

It seems to me some are concerned about giving away the value of #2. Its not about that. Its about expediting its value into next years lineup and not waiting the required 2-3 years for a potential to come on. But in doing so you have to possibly accept a slight dilution in exchange for getting him already ready. its as simple as that. But, you WILL know hes a good'n !! there's a concession to pay for that !!

I think we won't trade pick 2 if a deal with west coast is off.

maybe the Westcoast deal is off?, because we've found another deal???

maybe we're looking north?

maybe its all relevent to the timing of things becoming available.

since buddy, things may have changed?

I just read on the AFL website, that Bombers have said "hands off Myers."

The only people I've seen spruik a deal with Melbourne's pick 2 for Myers is Essendon people.

So, if Essendon say, "hand's off Myers" and offer him around like yesterday's bread, do they think that people will want him more because they pretend to want to keep him.

Just wondering, does anyone here fall for this sh!t?

No one has spruiked a deal for pick 2 and Myers besides the media. St Kilda and us both have genuine interest is Myers but I doubt either club would go anywhere near pick 2. It's simply a case of every team is now looking for the next Josh Kennedy ie. a talented guy who doesn't get the minutes he can deserve in the midfield and could be a late blooming talent. I actually think Essendon do want to keep him but I would also think that Myers would be pretty happy at a club that could give him 70% midfield time instead of half back, wing, half forward etc.

"Melbourne was not overwhelmed with offers for pick No.2 but remains hopeful of attracting quality midfielders.

Essendon and Greater Western Sydney have both ruled out trading David Myers and Dylan Shiel, respectively, but Melbourne's Josh Mahoney said they remain players of interest for the club."

No Adams, Rockliff, Swallow, Shiel, Sloane, Shuey or Myers likely ... anyone wanting to go to Melbourne ...it seems no one is interested !!!

Maybe hold pick 2 and see James Aish develop into a superstar. From watching the SANFL Grand Final, he will be elite.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
