Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Brad Miller joins Roos' coaching panel

I disagree with those comparing him to Dawes - They both share a similar trait of being a "hit up" CHF but Dawes is a cleverer footballer who makes right decisions ( when he aint injured) - Miller - not so much.

You could not fault Millers endeavors and from all accounts displayed good leadership on the ground and off.

Like all assistants and development coaches, we have little idea of who are good bad or otherwise so if it Brad is good enough for PR then thats good enough for me.

Welcome aboard.

( a perfect example of our lack of knowledge on who we think would make a good or bad assistant - I am sure not many would have picked Brett Allison at the end of his career as good coaching material but from all reports he is meant to be excellent)

Voss - out of a job

Hird - suspended a year and his clubs a disgrace

Buckley - hasn't achieved anything

Yet we look at the grand final this week

Lyon - journeyman player

Clarkson - best thing he ever did on the field was belt a bloke at a London trial game

You seem to think that if we load up on successful players as coaches then that will just bring success. That's not true at all. We need hard working and committed people to bring a culture of hard work and if they are skilled at their jobs then success will come. It's also a lot of anger for a development coaching role when Miller still has a huge gap in playing career than Greaves, Nicholls and Satterley.

well Buckley is in the top 6 at this stage and Hird has got into trouble but it's pretty clear the bloke can coach

I think up until Clarkson won a flag it was something like 10 flags in a row to coaches who had captained their clubs as players

1) I remember copping an earful from you once because I dared say that going around making jokes about tanking, while not a rock solid case for conviction, was pretty damn stupid and amateurish. You then proceeded to spit the dummy and told me that I, like everyone else, wanted us to tank as it was the smartest way to go about things and all I was was a revisionist. That's not the case and I think history shows the scoreboard as: CBF 1 C&B 0.

2) You still tell us how getting rid of Junior Mac was a good idea as he was 'finished'. The CEO has basically come out and said it was a bad idea (more the handling if anything).

3) In a thread recently, you were asking me to prove that the appointment of the two Jacks caused animosity. (See said thread for my reply).

4) To be honest, I reckoned Millsy's time was up as well and we could have let him go at the end of 2010 (I get the feeling how it was handled was another Cuddles Connolly special as Brad didn't even want a farewell game and decided to play the year out at Casey in a winning team). However, when both he and Junior were booted, we lost two locker room leaders and we are where were are today.

It took 'till about mid year for the penny to drop with you but you still come on here and defend the indefensible. I don't mind contrary views but it seems every one of your rebuttals starts with 'What garbage' or some loaded statement.

1) yeah i'll cop that

2) stand by that

3) I never liked/defended to co-captain appointment

4) just because a bloke has been around a long time it doesn't automatically make him a good leader

in summary the previous regime was a shocker, but not everything that gets blamed on them is fair

Well I loved Brad Miller during his playing days and rapt that he is coming back to the fold. I am certain Paul Roos knows what he is doing.

how could you have loved a bloke that occupied a spot and hardly ever had any impact as we lost match after match. I don't get it. Miller's popularity seems to have blossomed with time, I don't remember a lot of praise for him when he was playing.

If a player who is drafted at No 50 "underperforms" when he doesn't crack the top ten, then we have 34 players each year that don't crack the top ten & "underperform".

Players can play to the best of their ability & finish 20th in the B & F without "underperfotming"

the position you are drafted at has nothing to do with it whatsoever

Miller time for Demons as ex-forward returns

Miller's delisting at the end of 2010 along with James McDonald and the loss of Cameron Bruce to Hawthorn was seen as a mistake as the club battled for leadership and cohesion under Mark Neeld.

I don't quite understand this. Dean Bailey was the coach of the club when Miller was delisted, Junior was retired and Bruce decided to go to Hawthorn. He also coached the club in the following season and all three events were seen as a mistake during 2011 well before Mark Neeld took up the coaching reins.

The historical revisionism that abounds today is nothing short of appalling.

Not revisionism. Just an honest mistake muddied by the turbulence of our recent past. He really meant Schwab. Bailey was just a puppet on a string. Thats why he is in consideration for the Bombers caretaker. A good foil for new puppet master Hird.

Were you expecting Leigh Matthews or something? I was surprised too, but these development coach positions all seem to be filled by low profile/inexperienced coaches. What say we give the bloke a chance before we pan him, given that being the best player has never been a prerequisite for being a good coach.

Agreed. I was as surprised as others but in Roosy we trust.

Welcome back, Pia.

You too, Brad, I guess.

Brad Miller was tipped to be captain for a long time in his younger years. His football didn't live up to that idea, but clearly a great guy and inspirational presence inside a club.

Another good call by Roos and PJ.

I think he might have been on the 2003 membership card? . . .

Not a mistake you'd want to live with. Anyway real point of post. Why did you change your name? Beelzebub was a real kickarse demon - Satan's right hand man as it were. He had serious street cred.

I have already berated him bbo

He cannot change it back for another two weeks.

It was a show of support for Roosy!

Some hysterical responses on here....I imagine the exact same responses had we ever reported Al Clarkson was becoming an Assistant in his first ever coaching gig post playing.

I've no idea if he can coach, but I do know he wasn't ever the play I wanted him to be - but did play 170 odd games on what seemed limited ability after being recruited about pick 50. A pretty handy career that we'd have been thrilled if any of our recent high picks had!

Welcome back Millsy.

He frustrated the hell out of me as a player and he was an average footballer who never excelled.Hopeffully he will be a gr8 coach.I hope so.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
