Blease 10 games? That can't be right either.

edit: same goes for Strauss' 6 games.

Good to see the always reliable herald-scum has named Joel MacDonald at chb for us next year...

(Presuming they mean Tom McDonald.)

There would be something amiss if they got every one of our players' names right.

Blease and Strauss have played 31 and 24 games respectively. 10 & 6 are their 2013 totals.

Keep up the great work Hun.

Strauss instead of Terlich? It must be a disease here at Melbourne.. Straus is no good, slow, turns the ball over, takes the wrong option everyday of the week.. And you want him to replace our 3rd best and fairest?

Wow.. You really are a "young dee"

How about we bring back Jamie Shannahan to replace Frawley?

Over the last 2 years although the sample size for him is small, Strauss has the best disposal efficiency at the club.

Nothing better than making wild claims that are completely incorrect!

Wow.. You really are in a 'haze'.

I like this team because it starts to highlight how well we've improved our midfield both in the opening 18 but also off the bench. They are inexperienced, but quality with Tyson (pick 3), Viney (top 10), Watts (pick 1), Toumpas (pick 2) and Mitchie (?) to join the experienced hands of Jones (B&F), Cross (solid). These plus flackers in Grimes, Vince, Howe and Dunn means we have quality depth and some experience.

IF they all stay fit for lengthy periods of the season they should have some good days.

Worry that they only have Jamar in to ruck...

A lot of people seem to think that Vince is a ''flanker'', but he spends most of his time between the arcs around the ball.

Strauss isn't ''slow''.

I don't overly rate Terlich either. The B&F ranking means nothing. Clisby is a better footballer.

Agree. I don't see Terlich as consistently being in our best 22 if some of the new recruits come on as intended/hoped in 2014.

Assuming everyone is fit to me there are 5 spots that are up for grabs

Small & Midsize defender: Strauss, Terlich, Clisby, Nicholson, Jetta, Dunn

Small Forward: Byrnes, Kent, Tapscott, Blease, JKH, Bail

First Ruck: Jamar, Gawn, Spencer

Bench Midfielder: M Jones, Michie, McKenzie

good call, agree pretty much with this.. there are about 17 players basically everyone has in their side and then a whole bunch of others that will rotate in and out from the fringe depending on form/injury/matchups

unfortunately I have to say out of the 18 players youve noted there is very little to be excited about IMO

I feel like people have forgotten who was week in week out one of the few players who actually showed heart and a real passion for the club, Dean Terlich. He would put his body on the line to win the ball and wouldn't stop working. Strauss has shown no consistency in his career and Dunn has been given chance after chance with no real gain and Clisby, in reality, wasn't up to AFL standard last year. To leave him out of the best 22 is a real over site by many I believe.

My best 22 would read something like this:

BP: Terlich FB: Frawley BP: Garland

HBF: Grimes CHB: McDonald HBF: Cross

W: Vince C: Watts W: Toumpas

HFF: Howe CHF: Dawes HFF: Hogan

FP: Tyson FF: Clark FP: Blease

R: Jamar RR: Jones R: Michie

INT: Trengove, Viney, Evans, Dunn (Sub)

The positioning as well is important for a few reasons;

1. Watts as a tall centre could be deadly, he just needs that mongrel which I think he can possess. Also he can then be rotated with Tyson up forward.

2. Hogan on the forward flank means he can push up the ground and use his tank to run and support but it also means that any defender on him may be a mismatch in our favour and Hogan has then the ability to push deep and be a second tall in the forward line.

3. Clark as a predominant tall in the forward line means we are not crowding up the forward line, it also leaves a spot for Jamar when he needs to be rotated with Clark.

Many will disagree and in reality I probably will in an hours time but as this is written, this is my best 22.

Lot of people underrating Michael Evans I reckon

Correct, a fit Michael Evans will be a real asset to this team.

And as for Dunn, I certainly would have him in the best 22 at present! In a one on one situation he is peerless.

But in most other facets of the game, he is useless...

So what do we do?

Play him as a sub. I think he could play an important role for a quarter and a half or so.

And you leave out Jordie McKenzie. Go figure.

Boys, One thing you people will have to learn on Demonland.

Roosy , will not pick first year players unless mature player, ie Trade to fill gaps/ Swans model

So you people on demonland who want MFC to be under 21 teams better follow some other team

Wow.. You really are in a 'haze'.

His sample size is very small, can't recall many games where he had over 20 touches playing in the easiest spot on the ground around half back.

Can't see him making it

I really like the look of this team, but can't see Cross on a HBF however as his kicking probably isn't good enough. He will in and around the guts from the first contest of Rd 1 I would say.

I'd definitely play Terlich.

It's also probably a little big. Don't think we can play Dawes, Clark, Hogs, Jamar, Fitz and Gawn in the same team. I'm confident the Rush will turn it on again under Roos and if not, no worries Maximus will take over. I'd say Rush will get first crack though and they can't both play.

Same feelings this time every year being excitement... and it scares me

Tyson will be starting 4 in the guts. Not likely to play on a wing as it's his reading of the ball off hands, decision making and quick hands that are his biggest assets.

Exactrly

He will play in the guts, hes an inside player (who can play and be damaging on the outside too)

Hes basically a Simon Black/Scott Pendlebury hybrid, Can do it all

Look at the goal at 1:00

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
