My Heart Beats True - 2014 Membership Campaign Launched

Re-signed myself, son, mum, brother & sister today so you can add another 5 to the total. Also on the verge of signing up my Geelong supporting wife as she is likely to come to a few games with us this year (she came to the Saints game last year and the Dogs game we won).

After a few years of taking out the Trident membership and having a go at MCC/AFL members I bit the bullet and went back on to the AFL Membership (as a full member). I feel guilty doing so as it will cost the club a couple of thousand in our family memberships combined but unfortunately the club just can't compete with what the AFL Membership offers (free entry to first 3 weeks of finals, half price GF ticket, walk up seats on the wing ground level or level 2). To make up for it I'm going to be purchasing a fair bit of gear from the Demon Shop including those old school woollen jumpers they emailed us about late last year.

It's in the wedding vows Dr "thou shall follow my husbands team".

Get your mrs on board mate we need all the members we can get.

I don't think we will this year, but I do think 36k is achievable.

If we do ok this year (5wins, no flogging a, be competitive) then 40k the year after is possible.

If we only win 5 games this year mate, there is a good chance I won't renew my membership! 5 wins is a failed year, sure it is better than 2 but it's a long way off 'competitive'!!!

We had a percentage of 54.

We are starting in a different solar system to 'competitive.'

I know my wife will have me in the dog kennel for this - but I'm about to sign up my son who is 18 days old!

I'm going to big note myself here.

BUT I lay claim to having the youngest ever Demons member in our family. In the history of the club. The club kind of confirmed it too.

For many years, I've been signing up the kids of my mates to the MFC. Some vaguely respect it, some hate it - including the father of my goddaughter who sold her membership on eBay for 20 bucks ( ... someone actually bought it too, which we both found a bit weird).

So when my wife and I had a kid he was always destined to become a Demon.

As many of you know, at the 20 week mark in a pregnancy, you can find out the sex of the fetus. And so we did. A boy.

Within the week I had signed up the little fetus to be a fully fledged member of the club. I signed him up in about December 2012, Henry was born on 29 April 2013.

When I did, the lady in the membership department quite appropriately asked me the date of birth of the kid. I responded 29 April. She then asked "year?", to which I responded "next year".

She then exclaimed, "he's not even born yet!" I said "yep, that's right - but he will be. And we need the members", to which she responded, "yep, you're right there".

And so Henry became a member of the Dees. At about minus 5 months old.

It also served me well in another respect. My wife and I agreed on the name Henry, but not the middle name. Some months later, when my wife was putting forward various middle name options, I produced the membership card and said "too late. It's Henry Felix".

And so it was.

Timely thread actually - one of my mates just had a little boy, and I've got to sign him up - the Baby Dees package is an absolute bargain.

Hopefully some of these kids will stick with the club over life's journey.

^^ That's a classic Ronny!

Congrats on on your boy.

I stuck to my guns and signed my little guy up this week. As you said, hopefully some of our kids stick with the club for the long haul - poor buggers ;)

Haha that is brilliant - I thought I did well/was crazy signing mine up at 2 days old but this takes the cake. Brilliant! Will have to keep it in mind for the next one ;)

Congratulations Ron and may I be bold enough to offer the opinion that you have stumbled on one of the great secrets of the Universe; namely that our lives and those of our children should in fact date from fertilisation ( delicacy prevents me from suggesting the act of conception).

This fact alone further explains, incidentally , why astrology has proven to be so chronically no more accurate than guesswork - because all the clocks are set around 9 months too late and accordingly produce inaccurate prognostications.

However, even armed with this knowledge and gazing into the future, I am having difficulty seeing as many as eight wins ........

Ron - I have a late challenge!. My daughter, who turns 10 in mid July, has a membership card that says she has been a member for 11 consecutive years! She was a question mark as part of a family membership renewed at the end of 2003/start of 2004 (which apparently was enough for her to count as a member) - so she was a 1 yr member before she was born.

The miserable time she has had a Demon supporter so far (along with my 3 other kids) is part of the reason I am starting up a supporters group in Bendigo for Central Victoria - if anyone out there is interested the details are on the MFC website and our first function is at the Foundry Hotel on 14th Feb.

Signed up my wife over the weekend as a first time member (AFL with MFC club support) so you can add another one to the list - she barracks for the Cats and doesn't know I've signed her up yet so will be a surprise for her.

I don't think AFL members count?

Round 1 vs Port Adelaide 79 points, biggest joke I have ever sat through considering all the build up over the pre season, I respect the dedicated who have been members through the tough times, but for myself and wife we couldn't sign after that. Reasonable?

Is it reasonable? Well that is always going to be from a persons perspective.

For me, no. I roll my membership over every year, I want to be able to support my team every year through all this crapola and hopefully through the good years.

For me to have my club stay as it started ie no merger, no relocation etc I need to be a part of ensuring this happens.

If not, and a merger etc happened and I wasn't a member then it would be partially my fault that this occurred. So I pay my membership every year.

But I also know that is me and not what every one else believes.

We are very similar on this one , there have been years I have gone to two games but I was a member.

Perhaps we are the stupid ones?

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm
