After listening and watching the press conference, I think Aaron misinterpretted what the reporter asked him about hanging up the boots for good. It might have appeared as though he was not ruling out going elsewhere because he didn't discount it 100%. But listening to Aaron, I got the impression he just wants to play out the year, spend time with his family, and will work out what happens from here with Josh Mahoney in regards to the role @ the club.

After seeing some of the highlight reels it just reinforces what a great player he was for the club, the last couple of years have not been as strong due to injuries, but that goal against the Pies earlier this year just shows what he is/was capable of at his best.

A couple of things stand out in my memories of Flash;

- bamboozling the Richmond players in his second game on Friday Night Footy in 2004 where a couple of them basically just stood frozen not knowing which way to chase him and he just split right through the middle of them

- he is the fastest player I have ever seen in the flesh and remember him bolting down the middle of the G in one particular game chasing an opponent and making up about 20 metres in what seemed like an instant - his speed was just incredible

- his goal from the Members pocket in the wet against Geelong on Friday Night Footy in 2006

- seeing him in his suit standing behind the AFL members one day and giving his trademark grin as I walked past with my then 13 or 14 year old brother and told him "look it's The Flash!"

That was an astonishing game. The little tiggers looked for all like startled rabbits in headlights. I reckon it was this game that the definitive new style player was created/refined The defensive forward. This game he nailed it, and nailed anyone who stood still for a microsecond. . It was like there were 3 or 4 of him. Ive never quite watched a game like this one.

I suppose like all memories we'll tend to go to the ones that bring a smile as to the rest that cause lament.

Aaron, you brought a lot of smiles to many Demons over the years. Well done, enjoy your family

I was hoping Flash would get another year. He's been really effective as our sub IMO.

He's been, and continues to be, an extremely important figure at the MFC.

Accordingly, the way in which the club handles Flash's retirement is a bit of a litmus test for the new regime IMO.

As we all know, the club has been absolutely appalling in the past to senior players, and this has contributed to our poor culture and lack of leadership over the past few years.

I really hope the MFC manages to keep him at the club next year in some capacity.

It appears from comments in the HUN today that the MFC have offered him a role next year and that Craig intends to play him the last two games.

The Flash must go close to being the best player ever recruited via a rookie draft, certainly in the first five.

On a seperate issue it never ceases to amaze me that the MFC seem to get more good players from later draft picks and Rookies than we do from early picks.

I HOPE we kept Aaron informed and an active participant in the talks about his future. This is the first real test if the new broom can deliver what it promised.

On a different note, congratulations on a great career Aaron. I was overseas during your hey day but 176 games and being a one club player is a mighty fine achievement. Well done.

Congratulations on a great career. I was hoping for one more year, even as a super sub. Or how about being the designated kick in player. I thought he was talking about one more season. I hope he wasn't pushed.

We all know he has had problems in recent years but his kicking skills are still intact and we have precious few others who can spot up a target. Looking at his highlights reel is amazing. Who else on our list has anywhere near this amount of poise, balance, speed and agility that he had in his prime? Jurrah maybe.

In fact it crossed my mind that we have had players in more recent times with some special X factor but they were all drafted in the 90's - Yze, Schwartz, Robbo, The Wizz, Jackovitch could all do some amazing things at times that got you up out of your seat but gee since 2000 we have really struggled to unearth those special sort of skills that get you excited.

There are not many players who we can say changed the way the game has been played.

In my life, at the Demons, there was Jim Stynes, whose athleticism changed the way we saw rucks and changed the role as it was.

Davey with his forward pressure led to many teams taking his example and expanding upon it.

A worthy best and fairest who has helped to change the way his role (and all forwards) for the good of the game.

Thanks for the memories Aaron and good luck with whatever the future holds.

Many bagged him on this site. I can see that it was probably time for him to hang up the boots but I reiterate what I said a couple of year ago. He was the player who kept me coming to games from his debut through to the end of the Bailey era. LJ replaced him as Mr X factor but Those who remember the buzz that went around the crowd whenever he went near it will remember what an asset he has been. A genius with the ball. Well done Flash

Asked about the upcoming Roos appointment. Some regret about the timing. Saw Sydney and Roos as an ideal alternative option some years back if he had decided to have moved from the Demons at some point in the past.... "would have been an honour to have played under (him)".

Phil Krakouer advising him that it's a long time out of the game, to stay fit and in good shape just in case he has a change of heart.

Yes Aaron had X factor big time at his peak and he is the only recruit since 2000 that has had it with the exception of Jurrah. In the 90's we had them in spades with no discipline, poor culture and no facilities but at least we could spot talent. What has happened since, I have no idea, maybe our emphasis on athletes over footballers has been a factor. Of course we also don't like naughty boys either, do we.
