Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

Paul Little is worth $880m. Any costs incurred here by the bombers are small fry - and I'm sure the club are cognisant of the fact that afl will inevitably bail them out if needs be. Gotta have an 18 team competition, after all, and as disgusting as their behaviour has been the last several years they remain a powerhouse club, only behind the Pies in Melbourne.

They're going to end up fine the bastards.

They have no hope. They've gone kamikaze.

They could have a plan to hobble through the next few years. First drag this out as long as they can so older players would retire anyway (hence my question earlier). Also they could plan to trade out young blokes whom other clubs will take knowing they may miss some months . They could trade these guys for some 'clean skins' to fill the holes over the next couple of years, swap some draft picks for more and even keep some younger ones on ice while they serve their bans or trade them next year. The AFL will help. They may not be a powerhouse for several years, but I'm sure the AFL would prefer that to them fielding a VFL side. Whether that makes any sense or not would depend on a detailed analysis of their list so I could be talking through my hat.

Of course there is also the possibility of a coup if they try to follow such a long-term course.

I don't think they can appeal without new evidence? There's certain laws that prevent it, for the exact sort like Essendon who waste the court's resources by endlessly appealing.

But clearly their plan is just to string this along with injunctions, appeals, and throwing up lawsuits that they know they won't win, but prevent ASADA from issuing SCN. Wouldn't be surprised if they just launch an appeal with the intent of delaying ASADA until after the verdict of the appeal. Wankers.

According to Robbo, via a text message he received on air this morning Essendon are going to appeal the decision. Not official but from reliable sources, probably Hird's team.

Love burning money this crew, not sure it would go down to well with the players if they did appeal.

Good to see Slobbo checking his facts before reporting a story as well.

Incorrect. Usual appeals are based on the decision being wrong in law and against the weight of the evidence.

Not sure that is present here.

I think the Bombers board is now split and needs to find an end to this and maybe their Board positions, not forgetting terminating the Coach's contract.

John Fahey thinks Essendon player bans should be longer than the NRL bans.Former WADA boss John Fahey believes Essendon players may serve longer bans

Will the Essendon faithful listen?

Former World Anti-Doping Agency boss John Fahey believes the likelihood of Essendon footballers serving longer suspensions for banned drug use has increased due to "certain people with big egos and fat wallets".

...

"It is time certain people with big egos and fat wallets threw them both in the drawer and started focusing on 34 young men and their future in sport.

the board might struggle sacking little if his tenure is based on him financing things out of his (deep) pockets unless they can find another well heeled benefactor prepared to cough up

I believe this will be a primary concern for the players. There may be the possibility that they will have to serve full 2 year suspensions if this fuss is drawn out. Many may be retired from AFL then but it will be difficult for them to remain in the game in other capacities such as playing in minor competitions or coaching careers.

That would require a level of realistic tactical thinking not so far displayed.

Correction:

After this case, Paul Little is worth $875m.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
