Pick 2 on the table.

Recommended Posts

Hypothetical -

if we are given a PP after our 1st pick, meaning we got picks 2 and 3....

Would you trade both those picks to get back both David Swallow and Rory Sloane?

Yes yes yes. Would even consider a player in that as well. Picks 2 and Jamar for Sloane, 3 for Swallow.

GC is desperate to stagger the age profile of its list. One of the reasons they went for the last 2 mini drafts. I would offer just pick 2 for Swallow. They can replace him with a young star at pick 2. GC need to prune their list at seasons end. Adding more players will mean more pruning. As it is they probably will not use more than 3 picks in the draft anyway.

Why would Adelaide trade Sloane?

Isn't it the idea to retain your quality dependable players?

No according to many the idea is you trade them for picks and see if you can get another quality dependable player without any experience in the draft lottery. Sounds like a great idea, I mean if you've done it once surely you can do it again.

Very humerous. Not.

If Sloane was offered something big and he wanted to come home to Vic, Adelaide may be forced to do a trade. I have only what I read from others in the media as knowledge. Remember they are out of the first two rounds, might want to trade into a first round selection. Adelaide's recruiting guys got to fill their time with something this year to justify their wages after shooting themselves in the Tippett of their foot.

But Sloane re-signed up with Adelaide this year mid season. If he wanted to move back he would have used a Jack Watts line and held off till the end of the year. Sloane is honest, unless Adelaide wanted to get rid of him hes staying for his entire AFL career in my opinion.

If sloane is offered big money by a victorian club he'll have a serious think about it imo, if he declares he wants to leave and we happen to have a decent Pick the crows might have to take the offer, word is Aish would love to play for them anyway.

Sloane is contracted to Adelaide, he has never indicated he wants to come back to Melbourne, and again tell me why Adelaide would want to trade him????

I don't think they would unless they were given an offer that they can't refuse, the potential access to Tom Boyd may well be the only thing they could justify trading Sloane for

however Richard Douglas is a fairly handy player, i wonder if they would consider him and Mckay for pick 2 and fitz?

Just want to say Rory Sloane would be almost the best young player to get to change our culture around at the club.

I used to work for the Eastern Ranges when he was the captain of its U/18 squad and he was that one player that everyone would do anything for. Every person who met him was blown away with his personality. He is the nice guy who finishes first.

They say we have no leaders, get him and we have an amazing leader. I personally don't see Adelaide giving him up for anything, but if there was a chance..

He's from upwey so that could be a downfall

It could only be in the context of the Crows draft penalties that they would consider trading Sloane. Sloane is talented and does not turn 24 until March 2014. He is contracted for a further 3 years and appears happy at the club. Even with Pick 2 the Crows would need to be pretty lucky to select a better player than Sloane.

However they may be happy with an effective Sloane for James Aish trade. Aish is a highly rated midfielder, is South Australian and carries a famous SA footy name to boot.

Hope springs eternal!

Pick 2 is for quality not quantity and thats no disrespect to either Douglas or Mackay.

This is a hypothetical thread about what we might try to get in a trade for pick 2. If Jason Taylor and TV didn't try and get a couple of A grade mids during trade period they'd be mad. They'll have a go at whatever players fit the club need best, regardless of their current status. Sure, they would be unlikely to land Sloane, if he's in their sights, but big things only happen when you have a go.

Just a random question....but wouldn't the new coach coming in want a say as to who is going up for trade, and whose not?I find it hard to believe we are already putting players and picks on the trade table when we don't have a coach for next season yet???

Fair question, the way I read it was the Crows rang us asking for pick 2, we initially asked for Crouch. Obviously they want James Aisch. They have recently lost Davis and Tippet which hurt them.

Maybe we already have a coach who cannot be announced and they are calling the shots... #conspiracy

The issue with loss of draft picks is that it does not bite you for 4 or 5 years as you get a gap in the age profile on the list. That is the dilemma Adelaide face (I think they lost National draft picks last year as well??). Scott Watters said poor recruiting decisions in relation to draft picks left a big hole in their list age profile which they are trying to fill at the moment. That was part of the thinking to let Goddard go and the trade to GWS which got them Lee and some mid range picks. The Bombers will face the same dilemma if they lose picks. Clayton from the GC said in an interview that the mini draft picks allowed them to improve their age profile. I expect GWS to trade off players for picks in the next few years for the same reason. So there is more to it all than meets the eye. Its all part of responsible list management with the future of the club on the agenda.

In general its better to go for out of contract players simply because you can generally bargain a little harder as their current club has the preseason draft hanging over their head. I think Sloane is under contract? Not sure about Swallow?

Anyway the moral to the story is that sometimes you have to trade experienced players for draft picks.

I know you are just 'spitballing' but that is a highly annoying practice when you are on the other end...

In no way is Douglas and McKay worth ND2.

It depends on the team to their worth, two players who are settled at AFL level would be worth more to us than other teams.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
