He's a young kid who's been made to wait before being given a game. I've given you some of what I believe are the reasons.

Having a kid who's hungry to play AFL from a professional club like Freo, having learnt off some of the best mids in the comp, being under the tutelage of Ross Lyon for two years, having developed the right habits early on, playing at a consistently high level at WAFL level which has been the only time he's had a free run it...

Those things alone are already more valuable and will have more of an influence than someone like Colin Sylvia had, regardless of Michie's output on the field.

Look at the bigger picture fcs. It's not that hard. Comparing Tapscott to Michie?!

Our midfield, our team and our club has benefitted from having Michie, and that's without him even playing a game.

End of story.

I think you are letting your desire for success ( not an uncommon thing among dees supporters ) cloud your judgement.

Tapscott has been around since 2009, has seldom been uninjured and when he has he has produced very little in his 46 games.

Must be on his last chance in 2014 to show something that warrants his position on the list

Michie is a kid who through injury has played a half of one game. He deserves a second chance at the dees which he is getting.

Right now lots of people think he will be an AFL player however no one knows until he proves it

But right now IMO it is fanciful to imagine he is the one to lead us out of the wilderness.

My summery is Tapscott has so far been a failure who is on his last chance and Michie is a kid that has show some promise who could be anywhere between wonderful and useless.

I dont think that in 2014 they have much in common besides playing for the MFC.

Michie may or may not make it, but he has a position. He's a genuine midfielder. Strong, good pace, and decent disposal. A grand final team didn't want to lose his services.

Tapscott doesn't have a position on the footy field. He's tough, a decent kick, but too slow to mind slick small forwards and too short to be a topline flanker. He's no mid and doesn't have the nous of a Paul Chapman.

One has played far more games than the other. If Tapscott had been on Freo's list these last two years he wouldn't have any.

Michie has a very good chance at AFL level, but I fear for Tapscott's future.

That said, trying to convince someone who will only believe when they see proof is futile. I don't know why they post, as all they ever do and say is the same thing, "I'll believe it when I see it.". Yeah, we get it. STFU

Of all Tapscott's shortcoming's that aint it.

Probably redundant but I think Michie has enough going for him to make a good AFL mid. However as the coach said yesterday lets see when the games come around, coaches and witches hats are pretty easy opposition.

Freo supporter at work who watched a lot of wafl really rates him. He thought he should've played a lot more football last year, and couldn't work out why he wasn't given more of a shot.

I haven't seen the game but was wondering how Michie went. I have for some unknown reason, a feeling he could be a useful player for us.

Well, for anyone that had low expectations, I'm sure that's changed.

I thought he showed a lot, and I've always thought he was a great get. Good skills, solid tackler, smart player, knows where to run.

Regardless of the fact he's played half a 'real game', he's a definite upgrade from players like Bail and Nicho.

We've taken pressure off those lesser players now with our depth through the midfield. Makes a helluva lot of difference.

Whoever the poster was that said he heard a player say, "Viv will start at Casey" must have certainly made it up.

I was at the game and i thought he showed quite a bit. Racked up 19 touches from 58% time on ground and his disposal and tackling looked good. I would be very surprised if he wasn't in our 22 for round 1. Should be a great pick considering what we gave up for him.

I'd describe him as a pretty honest footballer who's short on experience but comes with talent and is similar to young players who bob up after a few years of being hidden away in the reserves at strong clubs.

He's main strength is that he has an all round game and is versatile. He's hard and strong enough to play inside midfield, but also skilled and runs well enough to play outside, half forward or half back.

His kicking can be a bit up and down but is technically sound and he doesn't have break away pace so he's not super dangerous.

If he is to become a top line player he'll probably have to be an inside midfielder who wins a lot of clearances and lays a lot of tackles but with his body and experience it's too much to expect that yet. Just for now he should be a piece of the puzzle who has good and bad weeks but overall makes us a much better side.

Watching the game I couldn't help but think it would be nice they changed the rules to 6 on the bench plus 2 replaceable subs for the entire season. That way we'd get a bunch of AFL games in to a whole raft of young mids and forwards all the time!

Um no. Magner had very little all round game or versatility. Whilst for Michie to really be a jet I think he'll be best suited as an inside midfielder he's got enough tricks to play multiple positions. His kicking isn't perfect, he'll make mistakes but he's still a naturally skilled player. He's not tall for but he's not a short midfielder like Magner and can therefore take some marks overhead.

Magner was a back up grunt midfielder at AFL level. Capable of filling in for better inside mids in a very certain role if needed. Michie can probably provide that role at times but he's also got other tricks and he's played 1 AFL game and has only done 2 decent preseasons. He should prove capable as a versatile player and in time could take more responsibility as a primary centre square mid that's all I'm saying.
