Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

I must say I was a bit of a sceptic after watching him play for the Dockers against Geelong in his only AFL game to date. He looked a bit out of place and seemed to find it hard to get used to the tempo of the game but his team was struggling that day. On Friday night, he was good and will no doubt be in the mix for a midfield spot in round 1.

I'd describe him as a pretty honest footballer who's short on experience but comes with talent and is similar to young players who bob up after a few years of being hidden away in the reserves at strong clubs.

He's main strength is that he has an all round game and is versatile. He's hard and strong enough to play inside midfield, but also skilled and runs well enough to play outside, half forward or half back.

His kicking can be a bit up and down but is technically sound and he doesn't have break away pace so he's not super dangerous.

If he is to become a top line player he'll probably have to be an inside midfielder who wins a lot of clearances and lays a lot of tackles but with his body and experience it's too much to expect that yet. Just for now he should be a piece of the puzzle who has good and bad weeks but overall makes us a much better side.

Good summation.

Michie averaged 26 possessions per game for Peel Thunder on his way to the B&F from 16 games and if you google Viv Michie and clearance machine you'll be surprised to see what appears so often.

Freo supporters have always referred to him as a clearance machine at the lower level. His challenge is to step up in AFL ranks. He's young, injury free and will only get better.

I thought he played well, his inside work was ok, but his tackling was excellent and others could learn from his technique, goes hard at the hips. He stepped up in the final minutes of the game and I would definitely play him round 1. Pretty stoked to have him at Melbourne, should have a good year. And let's not forget he hasn't really played much AFL but he didn't look out of place. Just the sort of player we need to help Viney, and Tyson, and allow Jones and Trengove to play more outside roles and rack up the possessions.

Does anyone have any insight as to how many games we can expect Michie to play this year (injuries aside)? Obviously this will be performance based but does anyone have any word coming out of the club?

Or at least any idea if he will be in the 22 next week?

Cheers

I personally think he's been really impressive, i would say he is a certain starter for round 1 and no reason he couldn't play all year.

Injury aside how many games he plays will be determined by the form and fitness of Viney, Toumpas, Matt Jones, Evans, McKenzie and maybe Salem.

I'm thinking Vince, Nath Jones, Cross, Tyson are locked in for most of the year and Trengove and Watts should hold their spots but if not will probably be played regardless as we have to get them right. The rest of the midfielders including Michie will be judged on form. Viv's only played half an AFL game. It's reasonable to expect at some stage he gets dropped to work on a few things. But if no one else is stepping up at Casey then he'll be hard to drop.

Obviously. But from what I've seen of Michie he's not a lock for the entire season. Matt Jones or Evans when fit last year were locks due to no one else, Michie is better than them but not significantly right now, he hasn't played a full game yet. This year there should be proper competition for spots

Yep, and at the moment it's Michie's spot to lose.

No one is a lock for the entire season.

Michie or Matt Jones ?

I prefer Michie's grunt. That said, Matt Jones has improved at every level he's been tried at over his long journey and is handy.

An inform at VFL level Matt Jones/Evans etc or a battling to be consistent at afl level Michie is my point.

I presume the question was raised for a super coach /dreamtime perspective and that's why I mention Id be surprised if Michie was an automatic inclusion throughout the year

BUMP

Well today's D Day from what I believe re list lodgement.

Will we hear news today of a new 1 or 2 year contract or that he's walking to the National or Pre-Season Draft to seek a better deal and more opportunities?

Hard one to call isnt it. We're now mainly about role players/playing. He does play a role but its questionable as to real effect.

Do Jones and Terlich simply hang on for now because they have paper and Viv none.... might be the litmus

Tough on viv I reckon. I hope he has a brilliant year and forces his way back on to the list

Its not tougher than anyone else. He is fringe at best I reckon. I would be sure that he knows where he stands....

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
