James Magner upgraded

Featured Replies

Then again there is only 4 rounds to go......

I guess he knows he is closer to selection than he was before.

Or it could be the case that the Club expect a number of like type players to head off for early operations so they can train the house down in the off season.

Off season is the best time of the football year for Dees supporters

If only I could afford to travel overseas for the April to September period.

Magner not even an emergency. Seems very odd to me.

I'm actually more bemused that Strauss still can't get a game despite being consistently in the best at Casey for 5 or 6 weeks now. He is more of a chance of being a long term player for us than Magner.

I seriously doubt that FD

Strauss is very average on a good day

Highly recommend it. Only managed a month this year but very calming :)

Not really sure where Magner fits in long term, but it seems really strange that they would upgrade him and then not play him

March is normally pretty rough.

However, September's fine - we don't play then.

Spot on.

The very best of Good luck on Monday dc.

Talk more soon mate.

I've come to the conclusion that the MFC is the ultimate troll. It's got us all hooked, and is now proceeding to screw with our minds on a weekly basis just for the fun of it.

Some of the "lads" may be able to visit. However, please excuse them if they shite on the floor.

as long as they bring their own spitoons bbo

I wish I cared. But this club provides one big moment of 'meh' for me right now.

When will they announce something exciting?

Very upbeat of you Jaded.

lol

Are we seriously trolling our own players?

Well, I guess they did it first...

The only explanation I can think of for upgrading him but then not even naming him an emergency is that by announcing we've upgraded him, the heat goes on him to lift his game at Casey and push hard for selection in the coming weeks.

The plausibility of that is questionable at best, so I'm still dumbfounded.

Nice. Another defensive mid. Thats gonna help our record low inside 50s

So here's a question, do we keep him beyond this season?

My answer would be yes; his work ethic is great and is a handy depth player, especially while we have nothing else. I believe he should have been playing as much as possible this season as he is a big clearance winner.

We'll know how to better answer that when/if he finally cracks another senior game!

Wait, who was he elevated for in Rounds 8+9 and why did he go back on to the rookie list? I'm a little confused. And why is Clark on the LTI list only now when he's had 16 weeks off? confused.

I'm saving my pennies 'old dee', I couldn't take another season like this without getting locked away.

It is indeed od and I can recommend it if you get the chance.

I agree that we will keep him next year, and also think that the reason he has been played at casey is to develop the weaker aspects of his game, e.g. defensive attributes. He doesnt have the talent to be an offensive weapon but by developing him as a tagger and utilising his ability to win ball he could be quite a good player.

Upgrading him could be a reward for his progress, indicating if he keeps working he wipl have a contract next year, while also acknowledging he still has improvement in the magoos. This can only be a good thing for seveloping our list.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
