Just stumbled across an article by Mark Stevens. Interesting thought but I cant see Mike doing it.

hmmmm

its tempting to dismiss it out of hand for probably silly reasons.

No sillier than some other ideas.

There are precedents

Pros
- Good relationship with the AFL

- Knows his footy

- Good for public image

Cons

- ? Business skills

- ? Passion for the job

I'd say he'd make a good President if we are going down the CEO runs the club in conjunction with the AFL and the board just provide basic oversight route. If we want a more engaged board we should focus on someone at least willing to run for President without being coaxed.

We are talking about a man with no presence whatsoever. I do not understand what the benefit would be. Who cares about media contacts!

Um youve been around Melbourne and footy in the last 30 odd years.. Alf Brown aside

Benefit no. 1

We don't have a president!

The media either ignores a club or stitches it up. This would happen whether Sheehan was President or otherwise. If the selling point is media contacts we are in a heap of trouble.

Yes WYL. Perhaps I'm missing something here but we are talking about the bloke who always looked a little confused aren't we?

he was the chief football writer for years. I was not his greatest fan most of the time concerning his writing, but his standing in the industry is what it is.

We need exposure on many levels RTG.

Mike as Prez or on the board is worth consideration. These journo's lived and breathed footy 24/7 for about 8 months of the year.

For all those harping on about 'Business Minds' you'd be well served to have a look at the vast majority of our board over the last 10 years.

The feeling around town has been that most business people check their business brains at the door when they serve on a footy club board. If football has been your business, then maybe you'd be well served running a football business?

It's not exactly a radical thought.

Maybe on the board. But surely not President.

i agree, i remember Eddie as a Ch10 journalist in the late 80's.

now i would never have imagined him as a successful Collingwood Prez.

Mike as a retiring journalist might be an asset as a Board Member.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

The Demons once again went goalless in the last quarter and were run down by the Lions at the Gabba in the final minutes of the match ultimately losing the game by 5 points as their percentage dips below 100 for the first time since 2020.

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?
