Pfft, managers in European Soccer run the whole football side of the business, hence why they are called managers. They aren't just the head coach, they are responsible for overseeing everything that happens at their club from a physical performance perspective including players, scouts, recruiting, coaches, gameday, training. Considering you've followed Everton for over 50 years you haven't learnt much.

Again I will disagree with you. A club can collapse when a manager is sacked or retires you only have to look at the fortunes of Liverpool in the last 25 odd years. The fortunes of a premier league club or European Football club are tied to the performance of the manager which is why so many are sacked. I will add that Sir Alex Ferguson said one of his most important skills was the ability to learn how to delegate. The selection of all his staff was on his watch, not from a president or CEO as you suggest they just carried out the recommendations that he made to them. The sports are different, but to suggest the role of football manager is an unimportant role is pretty naive. I believe David Parkin's pillars of football are the players, coach, football dept manager, CEO & Board. If you have one missing link then the club can't expect to have any success.

Why would we relax if we got Roos, personally I think he is overrated, he is living by a media driven reputation, he won 1 flag as a coach, playing one of the most atrocious brands of football I have ever witnessed......what was the difference in the 'culture' he supposedly built at the Swans to that of West Coast which had the same sort of finals success as the Swans over a smiliar period of time or Brisbane under Leigh Mathews

He doesn't seem interested, hopefully not, me I want Craig or at a push Eade, at least sides they coached played a brand of toofy that was good to watch

The Board and the CEO on recommendations from quite a few people, including the head of the Footy Dept

McGuire is responsible for most of Collingwood's off field success without him being Prez, half of what they have achieved wouldn't have happened, now if he was interested in being President, yes please

Er the Manager in European football is the Head Coach, they don't have anything to do with the administration apart from bringing the money in from the success on field, Everton supporter since late 50's so I do know

It's a team effort 'Sat', I think Geelong set the standard and it was built on a passionate and effective Prez appointing a top notch CEO and then sorting out the finance and football side of things.

One of the things identified by PJ is the need for experienced football people around the club, more people to carry the load. Walsh definitely ticks this box, he is a successful highly regarded football administrator with excellent relationships in all areas of the game including the media who I know you don't regard but are extremely important to have onside.

I am concerned as to why he needs the break, the last thing we need at the moment is somebody who is burnt out, it can happen....... but then receiving an offer you can't refuse when you should really walk away from what has burnt you out...........that is why Jackson has so much energy, he walked away from the front line for a while.......I do not want us to rush anything........I don't care if we don't have the backroom fully in place before the New Year, want the coach before draft though.........

I have a feeling there is more to this than we know.

However he has said he wants to go and spend some time with his son in the USA who is trying to make a College team as a kicker.

Sometimes people in the AFL tell the truth ( yes I know rarely ) but this may be one of those cases.

Agree with that, I think him taking time out now and heading OS is a good thing. I can't see us appointing anyone, coach included unless they are ready and able to give a full and total commitment.

It looks to me that Jackson has set up the structures he wants and has interim people in the roles, it doesn't look as though anything is being rushed. It seems that he is targeting key people and appointments will be made at an appropriate time.

The coach will be well and truly in place before draft time, I can't see us going through a trade period without the key people. I wouldn't be to worried about that.

It could happen, Andy D appears to want MFC back as a contender.

The AFL will be a lot better off if MFC and Richmond are back in the fold as power clubs.

It's been a long time, but it would add a lot of excitement, so hopefully we get Walsh, Roos and set ourselves up:)

Yeah there is definitely more to this and I think he was verbally agreed with the Dees and is sick of Buckleys crapola and strutting.

Also working with someone who looks like such a sour puss would pizz u off too.

very interesting that hawthorn announced tonight that Fantasia has quit from his role as Footy Ops Manager putting them in the market for a new one with us, the dogs and obviously the pies
