WYL, I disagree with your view on the votes because I think Trengove did play quite well last night.

However he has obviously struggled a bit this season and I think for that reason, as well as the way Grimes handles himself and performs in comparison, a change should be made in leadership next season. Trengove should not be axed entirely but my ideal setup would be Grimes as stand alone captain with a leadership group of Dawes, Trengove, Jones, Clark and Garland (maybe add/take out a couple from that). Two vice captains should be picked from that group.

Trengove does need to forget about the captaincy for at least a year and focus on his game, that's my view anyway.

Fair Call, but if you play "quite" well should you get votes?

That's my point. This list is judged far too softly.

It's a bloody shambles.

As i have said before Trengove has not played well since the sling tackle & to be named Captain was just farcical. I am sure Neeld did it for one reason, to Pizz Beamer right off.

Trengove is a good kid, but he is not a leader onfield.

Not once have i seen him lift the side, probably because he struggles himself.

But did he deserve them???

Just take the captaincy off him is all i ask.

A Captain leads and inspires the team.

Please tell me when Trengove has done this?

would you trade him off the back of last nights performance? Edited by tatu

would depend on who wants to trade.

Trengove should be kicking 2-3 goals in the last Quarter to pull the team over tthe line.

It's what Captains do. He is in his 4th season now so we should be getting a lot more.

Judged too softly by who? Because if you think it has been judged too softly by Demonland members, you must be reading a different site. Virtually every player has been shredded on occasion here.

I have concerns about Trenners, but your criticism of him here is well over the top.

What about his chase down on Hanley on the wing? That's a team lifter. You don't have to kick 3 goals in the last quarter to inspire your teammates. Neitz was in a position to be doing that.

I agree the captaincy decision was premature, but let's not go overboard on the kid.

Good point about the Hanley chase. Trengove can be slow but Hanley is one of the quickest blokes in the league and Trenners stayed with him the whole way, close enough to put pressure on him that caused Hanley to fumble.

If Trenners kicked that many each week, he'd go close to the Coleman.

but only for a day or so then they are loved and inflated again!!

Trenners is a prime example.

His form since 2011 has been awful.

It makes me sad, he is always under pressure when he has the ball & can't kick long distance.

Thats our number 2 Draft Pick that we tanked for...

Grimes didn't kick 2-3 goals in the last quarter either.

I actually think it was one of his best moments of the season. Hanley is greased lightning and as soon as I saw who was behind him i thought it was time to shut the gate, but the commitment in the chase was first class.

Reminded me of Chippa's chase of Lewis Jetta a few years ago, obviously we won that game but it was good to see something similar.

Maybe the pace is coming back to him, slowly but surely.

come on mate he kicked two absolute pearlers

2 touches a quarter. I don't think I'm being unreasonable by giving him a knock.

He's still far too inconsistent and just floats in and out of the game. He was really starting to show something in the way of regularly contributing late last season, wonder where that went?

He has zero endurance.

Someone with his pace and skills should be playing in a wing, not up forward, but he can't breath after running 20m. If his cannot improve his aerobic capacity he won't make it. There is only so long you can carry an 8 possessions a game player.

Agree, I believe it goes back to when he broke his ankle badly just after he was drafted. He would have missed a huge amount of crucial training and acclimatisation to AFL footy.

Yeah but he's had at least 2 completely decent preseasons since. I don't expect him to be elite but he's barely up to scratch. There's also to fact that he's pretty ordinary at winning any of his own ball as well which is just as damning.

WYL Trengove missed the whole pre season and that affects your ability and power especially at AFL level. I have cousins playing in the AFL and they will tell you that its a massive step back in preperation, fitness and condition if you are unable to do a full pre season and it affects you season because you are trying to play catch up to the rest of the competition. If you ask a joel selwood or shane crawford on how importan a full pre seaaon is they will tell you how much it sets you up for a big year. Especially when your playing one of the hardest position on the ground in the midfield. Just remember trenners didnt get back to full training till febuarary. And if your expecting to come out all guns blazing dominating and kicking 2-3 goals a qtr and 20 plus touches with ZERO pre season base then you are kidding yourself and need to support another sport because that how AFL is now days. Even now trenners will be still be playing catch up footy. This is his pre season now.

His form last year was no different.

Stop making excuses.

Like i said supporters are to soft and easy on this list.

I was waiting for the Trengove defence Essay.

He hasn't played a decent game since putting Dangerfield into the turf.

WYL he had a lot of Soft Tissue problems during the 2011/2012 pre season. Mainly calf and quad problems.

And your being silly in regards to that incident which happened early on that year he went on to have a fine year and a consistent one as well. Your really getting over the top here.

WYL, I think you' re watching the game coloured by your biases - magnifying every negative and dismissing the positives as "well, they're only to be expected".

Trengove was one of our better players last night and led by example. Whether you like it or not.

WYL, I used to appreciate your posts, your passion, even your insight, but you've turned into a directionless ranter.

Think I've hit a watershed moment in my life and actually agreed with a stuie post. Scary.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
