Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Chris Yarran Thread

Recommended Posts

All the Chris Yarran lovers should look at his stats. Apart from 2011 his averages are well below those of a gun as so many say. He certainly goes missing and is not a midfielder. The numbers speak for themselves.

What he does looks good, he doesn't do it very much. That about sums it up for me.

His stats are not great at the moment. That's why he is up for trade. He's having a bad year under a new coach.

His stats from 2012 were better and 2011 were better still. He is only 22 years old. Nay sayers on here are getting caught in the thinking that he will not get any better. They made the same assumption when we were discussing Clark.

Pros:

  • He is a great kick.
  • Decision making is great.
  • Has great speed.
  • Is a good size.
  • He looks like he is going to be traded. (And therfore worth discussing)

Cons:

  • Does not get enough of it. (yet.)
  • Needs to tighten up defensivly
  • Doesnt get his own ball

I would give our 2nd round pick for him. We are crying out for run and carry and good kicks. Plus his speed is great. He has had awhile in the system now and should step up to averaging 20 disposals a game in the next few years.

Yes, he doesnt get his own ball. You know what? Just about every player has his downsides. There is a reason he is up for trade (potentially) I get sick of some posters who instantly say no without generating some conversation.

I honestly doubt he will come to us. I would imagine he will return to WA if he does move at all.

2nd round I'd think about but I wouldn't give away a 1st round for him.

I agree with Master Demon on his summation. Yarran would be a handy pick up if we could get him for our second round draft pick. He is quick (we are starting to get quicker with Kent and Bleasey, but we still lack pace) and he has vision and poise, even though he doesn't get it a lot. I reckon he'd be great off half-back and solve one of our big problem areas - running the ball out of defence.

But I suspect a few other clubs are eyeing him off as well as he fits most sides requirements - If West Coast isn't into him they have no idea what they need.

The Blues are still searching for a key forward - could Fitzy's latest displays be enough to get the deal done with second round pick.

Are you suggesting Fitzy + 2nd round pick for Yarran? That would be too much for me.

Match winner on his day. And wouldn't be the first player to be over Malthouse. Listening to the way MM spoke about Betts, regardless of accuracy, it said a great deal about Mick being all about Mick. It could well be that Yarran has quickly spotted that self love and wants out.

I would have thought the last thing we needed was players who are not dependable, no matter how occasionally classy they are.

Well say that to the many players who have developed into great players with the help of great coaches and a new environment.

I'm not saying that if we were to get him to the MFC somehow he would magically switch into gear, however you are pretty much ruling it out in your comment above.

Yes, I am ruling out Yarran transferring to the MFC magically switching him in to gear. I reckon for every time that happens, there are 100 occasions where it doesn't and the bloke turns out just as ordinary at his second club as he was at his first. It's a roll of the dice and I don't see the value in it.

I think I'm on the outer with this one. If he were available and not completely over the odds Id take him in a heartbeat.

Well you're very short sighted if that's the case.

Chris Yarran has more football talent then the majority of our list squeezed in one.

He is an A grade skilled footballer, pure bread and as it happens, only this year has his form dropped and there's been speculation about his relationship with Mick and hence his future and what do you know, posters like you bob up and say that he can't change, when in fact there is nothing to change. He is just in need of some inspiration and more development in a couple of areas.

The amount of excuses you have made for our very own players lack of development etc over the years is astounding. What a contradiction.

Yarran's positive attributes far outweigh his negative ones presently and this is while he is having one bad year. Haha. Wow.

Talk about shortsighted.

2nd round will be pick 20. Maybe slightly high but Carlton will want something good for Yarran like MFC would for Watts.

Yarran + Carlton's 2nd round pick (pick 28) for Fitzy, MFC second (20) and third pick (40).

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
