The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

Featured Replies

That is correct.

If you bring in Daniel Cross, that leaves us with no openings.

Any word on Magner?

I would doubt we would use 57 on a Rookie Upgrade. If we only want 2 from this draft then moving on Pick 57 to improve 40 would be the way to go.

Primary targets acquired I'd guess.

But I have a gut feel we have some trade-outs planned this week.

Won't be fringe players either - got to give to get. Contracted players with currency would be fairly easy to name.

Frawley for an early pick? Dawes for another player with pick swap? A fully fit Mitch Clark for a very high pick?

No point being in this draft after pick 40 apparently.

Above is long distance unqualified opinion.

Just updating my previous post in this thread, piggybacking off rpfc's Contracts Thread...

So from the 2013 primary list we've lost: Sylvia, Gillies, Davey, Rodan, Macdonald, Davis, Tynan and Sellar.

That's 8 spots opened up (not worried about rookie list at this stage).

Hogan comes onto the list, leaving 7 spots.

Michie comes in a trade, leaving 6 spots.

Vince comes onto the list for our compo pick, leaving 5 spots.

Dom Tyson comes in via trade, leaving 4 spots.

Taggert, Jetta and Nicholson all remain OOC, and can be delisted to create extra spots if needed.

We must use a minimum of 3 picks in the draft.

If we happen to upgrade Clisby off the rookie list, it will leave us with 3 spots, but also counts as one draft pick used from our minimum of 3.

We currently hold draft picks 9, 40, 57 & 94...

We have the 2nd pick in the PSD & also in the Rookie Draft.

Dopey's going to come in and ask a silly question. Apologies in advance. As well as upgrading Clisby (leaving three spots), could we use two picks in the ND and then one in the PSD? Or do the minimum of three picks have to come from the ND?

I doubt we'd have to use 3 picks in the national.

The AFL surely could not have a rule dictating where sides used their picks.

Frawley for no picks, Dawes is invaluable to improving our culture and Mitch Clark is exactly what we need - now we are improving our mids.

We have enough youth already on our list and enough young quality already coming in this year.

Experienced players like Frawley, Dawes and Clark are absolutely necessary.

do we know we are upgrading clisby? he still has a year on the rookie list i thought?

Living up to your name with the above.

A sure way to ruin whatever momentum we have would be to trade Dawes, Frawley, or Clark.

We have got enough kids.

I agree with his last line.

No way any of those 3 trades happen.

I think we'll shut up shop now for trades.

If we make any delistings it'll be to accommodate delisted FAs.

Cross and..?

He's contracted

David McKay, trade player/s & pick. from Tapscott/Jamar/LDunn/ Nicholson, + maybe P57?

Mate what the hell are you smoking? The club isn't going to trade a bloke (Frawley) who wants to be in the leadership group, says he bleeds red and blue! We just picked up Dawes last year!! And he is do committed he is paying for his own altitude training with the same bloke you just offered up in Mitch Clark..

I know people like to think out of the box but, that thinking almost destroyed this club.. Ie delisting a captain in McDonald, letting Cam Bruce move on to Hawthorn, disrespecting Green by starting him as a sub as captain..

Some of these posts on here make me laugh..

No more trades mfc, unless any clubs want any of blease or tappy, roos has everything he wants for trading.

I agree that there is little urgent need to trade now that we have Hogan coming in plus Michie, Vince,Dom Tyson and pick #9 (Freeman?) all bolstering our midfield stocks. The idea of offloading Dawes, Clark or Frawley is ridiculous. So far we are travelling well and if there is opinion that there is no depth at the back end of the draft, we could do a lot worse than upgrading Clisby who IMO would hold his spot in our backline.

I doubt we'd have to use 3 picks in the national.

The AFL surely could not have a rule dictating where sides used their picks.

Surely not, but just as surely they would make one up on the run if it suited them. ;-(

How is Cross 'no longer required'?

We picked up a replacement for Sylvia and two kids with 14 games experience.

Cross would be more than handy, and he would be cheap.

I will be very disappointed if we don't get Cross.

We need to improve our midfield. Dramatically. Not just maintain it.

Thus far, we have one experienced mid coming in (Vince) and he is simply replacing one departing (Sylvia).

We need another experienced mid IMO (ie, Cross).

Interesting article on the AFL site:

White to Pies a done deal
Sydney Swans big man Jesse White will get his wish of a trade to Collingwood, after the clubs agreed to a three-way trade that also involves West Coast, reports Fairfax Media.
The report says the trade could be made official as early as Monday, with the Magpies to receive White and pick six in the NAB AFL Draft, the Eagles picks 11 and 31, and the Swans pick 44.
I am confused in what does Sydney get? The Eagles are darn keen on using 31 to get Yeo; willing to go from 6 to 11 to get it done.

Sydney will get pick 44 for Jesse White. And Buddy cap space. Eagles are confident they will get the player they wanted at 6 at 11 anyways (multiple reports that it's Sheed).

Swans get 44 for White

Woods get White and pick 6, and lose picks 11 and 31 which go to the Eagles for 6........I think! Seems unnecessarily complex to me, but who am I to judge.

SEN rumour - cross signed with us over the weekend

Edited by DemonTux

That's better finally a rumour on the trade/draft rumour mill thread

I like that rumour about Cross, I have heard it too from friends this morning. Probably from hearing it on SEN but still.

With Vince, Minchie and Tyson inserted into our current list plus the prospect of what will be availible at number 9 i am acually very excited about next year.

Cross and VInce both average over 20 disposals per game last season

Jones was the only MFC player to do that

Hopefully we have gptten Cross as rumoured

do we know we are upgrading clisby? he still has a year on the rookie list i thought?

Also, isn't there the option to promote a rookie midway through the season?

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
