Sam Dwyer

Sam Dwyer should be a target for us at the end of the year in the PSD. He is Rookie listed at Collingwood and would be on the edge of selection in the Pies best 22. He is aged 26, so he still has a reasonable amount of footy in him. We could offer him much more money and a longer contract than Collingwood given their salary cap is undoubtedly tight.

Bit old for my likings. Plus he's in line for a rookie promotion and decent money anyway. Sure we could afford more than the Pies but if we are going to splash cash I'd rather do it on a younger player or a better one.

He's a bit of a depth player in that he plays half forward, wing, inside midfield without being spectacular at any one position.

I'd be looking for a Josh Kennedy/Ben McGlynn/Bachar Houli type who is talented but outside best 22 and is around that 22-24 year old mark and besides that I'd be going with kids.

Our salary cap might tighten up considerably considering we will have to pay decent money to keep a lot of guys if we don't improve so I'd rather front end the kids contracts and keep going with them.

I know we will always have injuries but if we had Viney and Grimes available and continued to play competitive footy we wouldn't be going for such desperate measures.

By my thinking each AFL team should run out with 9 guys in the midfield rotation each week. I've got our best 9 listed and it's not as bad a batch as some think. Jones, Viney, Grimes, Sylvia, Trengove, Tagger (Mckenzie or Nicho), Evans, Matt Jones, Toumpas. Considering you add our first pick in the draft as depth. Then still have guys like Blease, Kent and Taggert who could become part of the rotation it's looking ok.

I'd try and replace Magner and Rodan for next year with some mature age talent be they FA, Mature age draft picks like Matt Jones or trades but I wouldn't break the bank doing it.

Dwyer would provide us a bit of outside run and polish, which is what we lack. He is a better player than Matt Jones IMO.

I would hope to also get Taylor Adams, but it sounds a bit like he might be keen on getting to Geelong.

'The' Sam Dwyer thread.

Because we are at risk of having more than one? Give me a break, we don't need more low-mid level talent. We need a gun/multiple gun midfielders who can get their own ball, and a small forward or two this offseason.

No more list-cloggers please.

Would rather target Luke Parker

Absolutely...hard as nails and smart.

Sydney targeted players like Mumford who they knew where required but not able to get the $'ss. I would throw money at Parker I reckon he is a beauty and talking to a Swan supporter today so does he.

Parker would be a great get and is out of contract. However, I don't think you can set your sights on just one target with respect to the PSD, especially when you don't have PSD #1.

The Swans have a number of other good players coming out of contract, including Jetta, Johnson, Mumford, Brandon Jack, Shaw Smith, Rampe and Lamb. But it is pretty rare for players to leave clubs in the premiership window.

Wouldn't we all, but I think the Swans will be very keen on re-signing him. Is now their 12th best player on AFL rankings, which in that team is impressive.

I actually rate Dwyer quite highly, should've been picked up by an AFL club a long time ago. Has a few strings to his bow as a mid-forward who can win his own ball and also provide a bit of run and carry. I like Matt Jones and applaud his efforts this year, but Dwyer would be an upgrade.

GAMEDAY: Rd 11 vs St. Kilda

It's Game Day and after 2 losses on the trot the Dees must win against the Saints today at the MCG to keep in touch with the Top 4. A loss today will see them drop out of the Top 8 for the first time since 2020.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.
