MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION

Demonland

Looks like they want to exploit the saints lack of pace. I doubt if we'll be doing too well at the bounce, but I would say they are aiming for the Geelong win the ball at HB and move it quickly up the ground. You never know, it might work. Except for that little problem we have hitting targets by foot...

Happy to see Clisby in lieu of Magner. It is about time that Craig started making our line-up less predictable and giving some of your new recruits a run. Good to see Davey in the starting 18.

Two months for a toe injury to Jack Viney, gosh if this kid doesnt ease up his gona spend 3/4 of his career injured. Right now I wouldn't count him in any future plans as his always gonna be injured.

Like a new in: Clisby.

Why is Magner not in? Beggars belief.

There was a clear legspeed mandate in the selection criteria which Magner will never satisfy.

He shall only ever hope to play when additional grunt is deemed advantageous.

I am actually looking forward to going to the game this weekend.

Should I go and see my doctor?

U may have to BR after the game.

I just hope that the boys dont get pumped again and I really hope they show EFFORT for FOUR quaters cause if they dont it will be really dissapointing imo.

the game will come down to tom mcdonalds start on nick riewoldt, if he can keep him out of the game early then i feel like we can be competitive with them for a majority of the game.

hopefully clisby is able to help our disposal out of the back 50 and limit our turnovers, and we are able to actually rebound the ball out of our back 50 effectively, and not just offer the opposition goals. mcdonald will be good for 2-3 off his poor disposal, and terlcih will have 1-2 really poor turnovers in our back half, so if we can keep this number below 8-9 goals we will not lose by 10 goals!

at the end of the day, they should win the midfield battle and i feel that spencer and fitzpatrick playing ruck and rotating ruck will be comprehensively beaten by mcevoy and kosi.

but i dont think they have a forwardline that is capable of scoring a large score and i think our defense should be able to match up on them alright.

also, my sneaky tip for this week is that fitzpatrick will chase down rhys stanley at one stage while the commentators talk about how fast stanley is as he trys to break the lines and that fitzy will kick 3 goals and play a solid game.

It's interesting that Milne kicked 40% of their score last week with 5 out of their 12 goals. Last year we struggled to contain Maister (the man formerly known as Wilkes). Both aren't playing this week, which leaves Kosi and Riewoldt to provide the goals. That's not as imposing a thought as it used to be.

I seriously believe we have a chance. I hope that McDonald does the smart thing and if he gets the ball, looks to hand it off to a runner rather than kick it himself. Mind you, we'll need to make sure our runners are actually getting to him to allow this to happen.

I'm glad we're not rushing Gawn into a full game in the Ruck. After two knee reconstructions I don't want to risk overloading his knees. It's taken Max Bailey from Hawthorn years to get to where he is now. Lets allow Gawn to gradually building up the strength and condition to run out a full game in the Ruck. In the mean time, lets allow Spencer to take the bulk of the load and see if he has a future. He has his limitations, but I remember Ivan Maric used to be viewed as a spud, but once he got his chance he became pretty effective over time. I'm not saying Spencer will do this, but he provides a contest and has the ability to actually chase, something that Jamar has not shown this year.

I also doubt that Watts will start on the ball. I would fully expect the final lineup to be very different, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Sylvia start in the middle again.

and i am sure you do the opposite

Oooookaay then.

Anyway as I was saying, Viney will need to make sure he looks after himself better otherwise he will be spending lots of time on the sidelines. Missed a large chunk of time last year and again this year. Another 2 years like this and it could impact his development.

I've got a feeling this will be a close one and I think with everything that has gone on this week the Saints could be pretty flat.

And Kos ("shyte]" ske has returned.. That must give us a fair chance.. !! Although I am not too sure about our selection of (Frank??) Spencer and Nicholson... The team doesn't look all THAT bad against the Saints..(no Tip Rat) $ 6.00 MFC head to head is slightly tempting to me... We have the potential to match it with a team not going well enough to be that short priced... Please don't tear me to pieces ...Let's just let the on field performance do the talking... If I am wrong ,then I will eat my humble pie after the game... B)

I think its obvious that Spencer is a no 1 ruck type and Gawn is the ruck / forward.

Im a fan of Gawn and like what he as shown, but he has shown that up forward, not in the ruck.

He would struggle in the centre bounce against McEvoy. Gawns time will come, he just needs more bulk.

But for now you need to go with Spencer.

I hope you're right but I am NOT a Spencer fan... I can remember not too long back I had a lot of supporters on that one.. ? What has he suddenly done to deserve the rating? Much prefer Fitzpatrick as a ruckman at this stage...

Glad Hayes isn't playing.

And The "tip rat" as he starred against us last time... I am glad their no.23 is playing... Do we have anyone to just give him a friendly "nudge" He is the "softest" big man I think I have EVER seen...

This game on paper at least seems winnable.. We match up ok on this ordinary looking St Kilda team.. I know we are rock bottom at the moment but if ONLY (wishful) we can put just two and a half good quarters together lol and just keep having a dip for four quarters we would beat them... I think I am having an "episode" Did I just write that ?:ph34r:

Have always thought that Watts should be played as a Mid, has great vision and disposal, could be the turning point.

Have always had the belief he could be a Goddard type who rests forward if given the chance

Only 85 problems such as his lack of work rate, lack of physicality, poor tackling and general lack of desire to win a clearance but besides from that it should be ok.

Watts skill set - nice size, decent speed, skills and vision make him a loose ball out in space player. So that means half forward or half back. He's failed at half back, if we still with him at half forward we might get somewhere.

I disagree, although totally see your point about tackling etc.

I think Watts could be a great choice in the midfield, although we'd be exposed if he didn't get his hands on the footy.

However, wouldn't you say that size (including bulk), speed, skills (precise disposal) and vision are in fact the perfect skill set for a midfield ballwinner?

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
