I've followed Casey this year and he has impressed me. Finds the footy, has dash and at VFL level uses the footy well !

Good luck Mitch

(My prediction is he will bypass James Strauss)

Nothing official but someone is tweeting it and as I said in the training thread he trained with the blue (senior) group today.

We don't need to turn this into a Strauss v Clisby thread. With Evans out there's plenty of room for all of them rotating wing and half back. Including Toumpas and Terlich in that.

I think we can actually elevate a rookie atm? If so it looks like its Clisby. If that was the case where does that leave magner and couch??

I don't think elevating Couch and Magner is sensible seeing as we wouldn't really be able to play them in the same side... too much pace lost and they effectively do the same job. I feel that's reflective of what will probably happen at the end of the year - Magner will be promoted to the senior list and Couch will be let go.

Clisby seems to offer something different, though I can't really comment as I haven't been following him that closely.

If true then I'm really happy for him. He's earnt his chance.

IMO he's the best looking player we've had on our rookie list since Davey was there at the start of 2004.

Well done young Mitch, only watched him once at Port Melbourne game and thought he looked really classy, tough, a great raking kick and had some real dash. Like a rich mans Clint Bartram, no disrespect meant Clint!

There's more to life than looks you know.. It's what's on the inside that counts ;)

2013 Season

1 PM Nice game for the Scorpions down back with 23 touches.

2 VFL Huge opening term. Broke the lines and showed toe.

3 VFL Not as prominent as last week but was OK.

4 VFL Nice effort down back giving away height.

5 Didnt play for Casey.

6 VFL Great game down back. Quick and composed. Concussed late.

7 VFL Bye.

8 Shin.

9 VFL Smart ball user and runner off half back. Likely type.

10 VFL Linked beautifully off half back. 23 quality possessions.

11 VFL Not as prominent as past weeks, but did some nice things.

12 VFL Bye.

Hes definitely deserved his chance, been good all season for Casey.

And here are his stats

Gets a lot of handball receives, so I guess he runs hard and to the right spots.

Inside Football's Brett Anderson is tweeting that "Mitch Clisby will debut this Saturday for Melbourne against the Saints. Exciting running defender."

Although not named in the best players, his last game against Collingwood VFL was more than solid. Playing in a team that won by 15 goals he had 19 touches and beat his opponent hands down. That's what you want from a defender; now let's see if be can do it in a higher grade.

This is a really good news story.

I don't know anything about him, but it seems we've unearthed another potentially good player from the minor leagues here.

Along with Matt Jones and Dean Terlich, I'm pretty impressed with the way in which we used our bottom end picks last year.

Just out of interest, would we have picked Hannath with the rookie pick we used on Clisby?

Wait until he has played a few games before getting too excited.

Gee I still miss Clint Bartram unsung hero of the Dees back pocket. Wore his opponent like a glove fantastic to watch. Came to play every day

Good work has pin point disposal and gives good run out of defence. I dont think strauss will get another contract at the end of the year..

Wait until he has played a few games before getting too excited.

He's a first year, second round pick, rookie who's on the verge of senior team selection - that, to me, is a good news story.

Contrast this with, say, spending pick 12 on Lucas Cook in a draft where every other player selected in the top 30 played senior AFL games.

This therefore appears to me to be a good news story.

If this is true and he has a poor game, then it will be an excuse for another few pages of "just another [censored] poor example of MFC *enter appropriate from drop down list".........oh to be an MFC player, the support you receive

You're a funny guy. Nobody other than perhaps a small handful of flogs are going to be upset if Clisby has a poor first game. He's a rookie pick, essentially pick one-hundred-and-something.

Just a small vent, the revisionism on here in the last few days has been wondrous to read, watched Mitch quite a few times, and had a couple of chats, reckon if he is picked will acquit himself really well

And had the skills of someone at country footy level. Horrible kick.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
