I know some on here will pounce but I have always had a soft spot for the so-called Chinese Demon from the 80's shield logo. For most of his tenure, we were absolute poo but when I was a little tacker supporting the club, this was my club logo. It reminds me of very good times comparatively speaking (the end of the 80's and Swooper's reign).
Some people don't want a cartoon Demon but I am not against it.

Oh good, let's break even this season, but look at putting more money into the Footy Dept next season or let's get a new emblem again after four years and have to spend money on changing everything again, jumpers, signage, letterheads, merchandising...sigh and sigh...any way agree must we go back to cartoonish emblems..why?....and besides which if it is going to have a name on surely the name should be Dees, don't hear many people calling MFC the Demons these days....

You haven't sat near me at any games then... that's the only name i've ever used.

The other term is an obomination on the original and i'm pretty sure Checker would say the same.

Anyone who uses that obomination, particularly of the male genda, should have a long hard look down their loin cloth (using a very bright torch) to make sure the nuts and bolts are still connected.

What is a "Dee" anyway?

I like the shield design of the current logo, but I think if we just removed a few elements from the logo it would look great.

In particular I would keep the trident (but move it to the centre where the football is) and get rid of the football and the southern cross.

I also would like to see the red return to an orthodox red (like the colour of the red on our jumpers). I hate the maroon-red colour that was introduced a few years ago which looks like the old Fitzroy red. That colour still lingers on current club merchandice - get rid of it.

Yep....another CS inspired bit of nostalgic BS from memory.

You've got my vote.

Don't mind the one suggested above but I like the current one so don't see the need for change.

Let's build some tradition again by not chopping and changing everything as in recent years - it is not like we would want to change the club song let alone the guernsey.

Anyway as mentioned already - there are far more pressing issues such as the coaching situation, increasing membership - especially young members and wins are needed for that - young people don't want to jump on board with losers - so clearly the list management - still truckloads to be done there and the coaching situation are the priorities way ahead of a new emblem.

Actually, putting them together like that makes ours look good, for mine. FWIW I like it ...

Put Stuie's version in amongst them and check it against the rest. It will sit nicely alongside the Tiges, Hawks, Lions, Cats and Bombers as very appropriate and bold IMO.

Current one is trying to say too many things. We're a football club not BHP etc..... KISS

Agree, Tigers, Cats, Lions, GWS & Swans look like something a kid put together with crayons

That one looks terrible to me, much prefer the current one with a bit of tweaking (remove background writing, remove flame over M, remove southern cross, keep the trident and maybe switch around with football)

We have to change everything when we get new sponsors don't we, and that's most years. We also have a new member of our design dept, so no doubt they would have done this. Do you really think printing a few letterheads is going to impede the footy dept spending? Ridiculous comments.

As for the "demons" part, what is our team called again?

Silly post.

Don't see Bombers written on the Essendon Emblem, don't see Port Adelaide written on the Port Emblem, Don't see the words Saints or St Kilda on their emblem, Don't see the word Hawthorn on the premiers emblem.

So what are you getting at Stuie, everyone involved in footy knows we are the Melbourne Football Club and are known as the Demons, Dees, Redlegs etc.

If we are appealing to overseas supporters why would they not follow the Melbourne Football Club who play at the home of football or would they just like an emblem and start following Power FC, Hawks FC, St K FC or the Essendon Aeroplanes.

FFS we have far more important issues. The current emblem is very professional some may like a bit of tweaking with it but certainly not a cartoon character.

I'm getting at making Saty's idea of having "Dees" on the logo pointed out as the ridiculous concept it is. Think that's the part of it you missed judging by your reply.

I didn't miss anything, you started this thread, I know who we are as do the footy world you seem to be the one beating on about how important it is to have the Demons in our logo

Does this ring any bells

In my opinion it has too many ideas all thrown together. It is directionless because it has so many concepts that none of them end up being a focus. We're the Melbourne Demons, yet there's no use of the word "Demons" anywhere on it. Do we need a Southern Cross to signify we're Australian? Do we need a football to show we play football? What does the trident mean without anything to say we're the Demons? Are we gardeners? Poseidon? Neptune?

To me, there's just too much going on and it seems confused. IMO we should be putting ourselves forward as the Melbourne Demons. Simple as that.

Yes that does ring bells, I posted that.

However that was not the post you responded to.

Don't go trying to dig things up to start an argument with me just because you totally misunderstood the previous discussion. Weak.

But if you want to keep it going, here's the flaw in your argument...

Essendon have a bomber, Port have a power image, St Kilda have a cross, Hawthorn have a hawk... We have a trident, a southern cross, a football, some illegible writing, a flame, a year, an older logo, and our jumper design all as part of our emblem. It's as weak and directionless as your responses.

I don't mind that. But change the shield shape to the current shape and less special effects with the shine, texture and shadowing. Just the flat colours would be great.

The current shield has way too much rubbish going on, just make it simple again.

i do agree about it being directionless.

I for one am happy with the emblem we have. It is the quality of the playing group we need to work on.

Take off the PR photo.

Change demons to DEES.

Best ive seen so far.

The club are changing it are they not? If so, the discussion about whether it needs to change is over, or is at least fruitless.

Unlike all the other discussions which are of course bursting with fruity goodness.

I don't really want to embarrass you but re-read my post and look at what you have replied with. Thanks for highlighting what I have said. I'm sure all the non-AFL fans are a lot wiser now

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
