Came across this rumour last night over tea - Make what you want if it, my source was given this mail by a well connected client of his. All I can say is his track record is reasonably solid. There is a Ross Lyon style massive poach unfolding with an existing AFL coach! He did not name the coach involved however stated multi - million dollar 5 year deal on offer. We speculated all night! & yes I am talking about The Dees gig. Interesting twist, Interesting times!

I like that the Dees are not rushing this decision

Craig is an excellent fill in and deserves a real crack at the top job in 2014. He has turned the club around and from what I've heard from the boys at the club (not all just a couple) they like Craig and think he's been good for the group and the club.

I've made the point before and I think it's still relavent if the MFC was serious they'd fire everyone in the FD under - But we all know what a [censored] up this club is and the AFL industry is also specialised so we can't throw the baby out with the bath water... So I'm glad Craig has gotten his chance and FWIW I think he has done pretty well.

Chocco, Eade and Roos are the obvious choices - It's pretty much Roos job if he wants it, which i suspect he doesn't and who can blame him after the last 6 years of crap on and off field. Just a quick side questions -will this club ever sort its stuff out off field - we are never going to be success as a club until the off field stuff is sorted

Anyway - Out of Chocco, Craig and Eade - Craig is the front runner for me - People writing him off for performance are a joke, he inherits a low morale rabble and has done pretty well with NO stars and is bringing through some youth and showing promise

LAstly the point of this post and from very Left field - Angry Ant Clarkson

I have a feeling if the Hawks don't win it all this year - Clarko will get the boot. And Clarko would be my number 1 pick for this club (Behind Roos who clearly doesn't want it). A lot of water to pass under the bridge before Clarkson is anywhere near available but I hope the MFC doesn't rush and gets this decisions right

Craig can clearly handle the running of the club until the right candidate is confirmed

Assuming your story has currency, the only attractive suspects are Lyon himself, Longmire, Clarkson and perhaps Woosher.

Would have to be Clarkson in my opinion. Would be great news.

Wouldn't suprise me if we threw the kitchen sink at Clarkson...

Someone else brought this up, actually. Said our next coach was currently employed as a head coach elsewhere... Knowing our luck it's Gary Ayres...

I wouldn't rule out Clarkson, he did an amazing job rebuilding Hawthorn but they haven't really been as successful as they probably should have in terms of premierships, if they don't win this year i reckon he will move on.

Knowing Melbourne we will end up with Craig after some wait.

Then we will slowly discover that Roos, Eade, Williams etc were never even contacted

I would personally like a coach lined up following round 23 or even earlier. The coach should have time to analysis the list before coming on board and then maybe have time to start considering game plans. That way they already have some idea of the list and what they plan to do and of course they have a whole offseason.

But I guess we don't live in a perfect world and there is almost no chance of that happening.

Young Dee - you can't expect to have a coach installed before September. Especially if we do not get Roos.

As for the list - those decisions are already being made and they are not that hard really. Couch has been told, as has MacDonald.

The coach will be installed before trade week an that's when he can have input into decisions on recruitment from other clubs.

Exactly and further more i think the big candidates would already know who they want, what they have to trade and have most of it planned, after signing it's really a case of rolling up at trade week and implementing it.

Where'd you hear about Couch and MacDonald?

I won't be divulging that. But I trust it is correct.

On this morning's footy show on 9 they were saying that the list of candidates is growing beyond the experienced names, and that Adam Simpson is "firming" (as the possible coach, that is)

That would be an absolute disaster and would mean our culture or method of selecting bloody assistant coaches who are unproven as No.1 Coaches is still alive and well .... and UNACCEPTABLE.. !! I sincerely hope it is just a rumour... I also heard this on today's Footy Show on Channel 9....

That fills me with as much joy as Nicho lining up for goal.

We have to pay overs to get an experienced coach...

and we will never progress until we get one (overs or not) and even then we will need many more changes within and on our playing list.. Not prepared to hear anymore of the weak feeble excuses I have been hearing for at least the last decade... Suffered enough... !!!

If that's the case prefer to keep Craig.

I will self combust if we go down the untried again.

An untried as an assistant coach is ok but not the big kahuna.

Heard about Lyon a couple of weeks back, mentioned it on this thread. Wife wants out of WA. We'll wait and see

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
