WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - PAUL ROOS

Roos is in a good place with his current jobs in the media, expressed he isn't that interested in the MFC, and if he would coach again you can bet he would rather coach at either WCE or Brisbane.

Worth a call, but I wouldnt count on it.

Eade, whilst he hasnt won a flag, has experience in turning struggling clubs around - got the Bulldogs to finals two years after they were winning only 5 games, let alone getting them to the top 4 on consecutive years. I'd put my money on Eade.

No more saving money.
We need to pick the best coach available to us, regardless of how much they will cost. The most expensive coach may not be our best option, but if it is, we must go for it.

Cutting corners financially when picking coaches, will only cost us more in the long term.

Roos will attract good players to the club.

Very articulate...however I tend to agree. And hopefully with Neeld gone players who may have otherwise departed at the end of the season may stay. We all seem to have tunnel vision when it comes to getting Roos, lets not be disappointed when it doesn't work out, thoughts on Clarkson?

The best part about this whole process is that GARY LYON is NOT involved.

Alleluia, Praise the Lord, Thank God.

Clarkson would be great. Personally I'd prefer him to Roos but he is unavailable according to his manager and not entertaining thoughts of us.

Maybe it's a stance because they are in the zone but the Hawks are so close this year and next why would he go?

Give it a rest already.

I know that many want to blame ALL our troubles on Lyon, Neeld, Schwab, CC, Gardner, Bailey, and McLardy but, unfortunately, our issues are more complex and with a longer history than that.

I get the feeling this will all come down to one of Craig (now that he has said he will take a "see how the interim job goes" approach), Eade (still has the fire in the belly) or Chocco... Roos I would think is highly unlikely (I hope I'm wrong), Bomber has stated categorically that he would not be interested and Woosha has virtually done the same.

I wouldn't rule out Ratten.

Dark horse for mine.

He was part of the problem rpfc just like the rest of the people u have mentioned.

Nothing wrong with positing how i feel on the matter.

Never said there was - I only said to give it a rest.

It has been said often has it not?

If we had to obey those principles RP, Demonland would have 3 threads and 15 posts in each one.

You're right and I would lose about a third of my posts...

My comment has nothing to do with the competency of Ratten, but I would be amazed if the 'bail-out' that is being funded by the AFL wasn't presented and discussed that they need to lure a big name coach, and quite possibly a very experienced Footy Operations Manager too. With such announcments comes expectation, better chances to lure players over, retain existing players, sponsorship, membership... it all would start to roll on from announcing established and proven performers.

If we can't land one of the big names then sure he is a strong candidate, but personally I would be pretty disappointed if we name Ratten, Knights or Harvey as our new coach at the end of this. Because it means that we failed to land the preferred option. We were required to settle for someone else.

Agree and assist in retaining a few others.

Yes, it's another aspect to the attraction of an experienced senior coach.

Roos especially, but I am hopeful Williams and Eade would also hold some gravitas with players growing tired of the crisis-hopping of late.

This was in an Age article and I am starting to c it more and more and I DONT LIKE IT

Roos has also been linked to the Brisbane coaching position, should Voss not have his contract renewed. Swans insiders maintain if Roos is to coach again, the Brisbane position would appeal more.

Depends. The Brisbane job would be more cushy.

But our job would have to appeal to his ego more and you know the AFL would prpobably be dropping him a line our way over the Brisbane job you'd think.

IMO Roos , Jackson and the AFL are already talking

Roos would require change and Jackson with the help of the AFL can make that happen

It is not at all unreasonable to suggest that schwab may have been an AFL direction along with Neeld

The AFL would want Connolly paid out and gone as well

I think its all in the timing and we should know a few weeks after Neil Craig's 11 week coaching stint

Jackson knows Roos would be a membership boom for the MFC

While i don't believe in Messiahs i do believe many will look at it that way

Jackson also knows Roos is an excellent coach for the current needs of the club and beyond

Roos would want his own team

Jackson knows that being onside with the AFL who would also agree with the appointment of Paul Roos would have a greater chance of gaining the money

it needs to rebuild the club to the satisfaction of both the AFL and Roos

Our List would look at the appointment of Paul Roos as an attractive reason to remain at the club

Jackson already knows what a successful club looks and feels like and his recommendations would reflect that knowledge and experience in getting the best outcome for the MFC

Ironically so does the AFL and Paul Roos

IMO its a win all round

well put swampfox, I think the same. & totally agree with all you said. imo the AFL are in this with their sleeves rolled right up. they were a part of our rucus, of the last 10 months or so, & in the process have damaged us in their Quest. as imo, did Caro

I think this is very similar to the AFL sending Barassi to the Swans in the 90's, & the way they've gone about setting up the Suns & Giants.

2nd & 3rd tier coaches won't cut it.

More rubbish, the only one that damaged us was us, the only reason the AFL found us not guilty was to protect our gaming licences, and everyone thanks CC for taking a bullet, what a load of crap, the guy should be stripped of his life membership for bringing the club into disrepute, it's astonishing that people still can't see the toxic cancer that was in control of the club at the time, I'm going to exclude Don from this because he wasn't in charge of the club at this certain time.

Roos has not coached since 2010. His premiership year was 2005. The game and training methods evolve quickly and I wonder if he is still up to date. This is apart from feeling that he isn't exactly chomping on the bit to coach us.

In a perfect world

Coach. Clarkson

Back line. Wellman (thank you Mr Burgundy)

Midfield. Ratten

Forward. Drovers dog. As long as we can find a decent crumber any idiot should be able to make Clark, Dawes, Hogan and Howe into a potent force

Of course, this ain't going to happen and my guess is Eade will get the top job

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
