Royal has been an enduring factor while we have been shithouse and especially our midfield has been shithouse. He really has to go, he has to be judged on performance at some point too.

FCS -Neeld has been sacked so all these who have bayed for his blood be satisfied.

Now please can everyone get behind Craig for the residue of the season. He IS an experienced coach, something that any have been calling for......he will not get immediate success, but he needs a lot if support from us all.

Royal is probably preparing his PowerPoint presentation as we speak. No point wasting time on coaching for this season now.

LOL. You may well be right RD. The laptop register might be all booked up for this coming weekend. Reason - "personal use" !

I hope Mark goes on a good holiday. It's been tough on him. I feel sorry for him, but he was just not experienced enough to do the job.

Good luck Mark.

The MFC must stay tough. More staff and players will go.

Yeah, $600,000 buys a lot of beer

Clearly Craig needs to be sacked - Jimmy Toumpas and peter Jackson have had their chance and done nothing (other than sack everybody else). Sack them!

What if malthouse knew Neeld wasn't a good fit but thought he could set him up for life with a fail and then a nice pay out? Sorry - just had to ask

That is the best conspiracy theory I have heard in ten Years.

The vast majority of these [censored] ups are that they are just [censored] ups plan and simple

So if we win half of our remaining games, who would support Craig keeping the job long term?

Unfortunately Goodvibes that is proportion that will never need to be considered.

The Ox was dead right again.

In what way?

Not exactly this list.. We will hardly improve... A few very serious changes need to and will be made before 2014.. THEN we will improve... MN had no hope with the current list and I am NOT going in to bat for him, not at all ... No coach would succeed with this list... GWS are even worse, regardless of having one of the AFL greats as coach... Cannot win with the wrong cattle..

The list is a long way from being satisfactory. But at the same time don't underestimate the effect Craig might bring into the playing group. Albeit this will be muted somewhat as he is obviously a caretaker and the players know this.

You can't compare the outgoing coach with the likes of Craig. Smart operator and his record is up there with some well rated coaches.

Of all present day coaches, potential coaches and coaches who have left the scene in the last 5 to 10 years or so or who might be the slightest chance of being considered or even discussed for the role next year......AND who have had at least one full season of coaching, the present rankings for Winning % throughout the home & away (regular season only ie., no finals records included to be fair) Craig sits at No. 11 out of a total of 29 coaches. Neeld not surprisingly sitting last if included against these. In fact Neeld has the worst ever record of any MFC coach and sits at 219 out of 224 coaches (of all time AFL/VFL) who have coached at least one full season. Craig ranked 54th here.

Candidates, who some are seriously considering for next year, who sit below Craig (11th) include; Williams (13th), Eade (14th), Worsfold (15th), Ayres (16th), Ratten (19th), Laidley (21st) and Knights (26th).

Of the present day AFL coaches, Craig ranks 9th above Hird (10th), Worsfold (11th), Brad Scott (you get the picture) , Watters, Hardwick, Voss, McCartney and McKenna. I have left out Hinkley in these rankings as he's obviously had less than a full season.

While I'm not saying Craig will have serious success (not enough time and he's taking over a shattered playing group) we also shouldn't underestimate who we have here as caretaker. He might surprise some.

Mick didn't really pass on much at all to any of his assistants.

The thing with Mick Malthouse is that he is a motivator of players and he works on more of a one on one level to get the best out of individuals.

Mick clearly makes the side dependent on himself, that is the kind of person he is, that is why when he left Collingwood - they fell to pieces.

It's also the reason why Buckley was clearly out of his depth as a coach and has had to learn on the job.. Getting Eade in was very important.

Where Roos and Bomber get everyone involved and believe that everyone should be leaders - Mick doesn't do that, he is old school.

Eddie knew what would happen if Mick taken all his knowledge out the door, without sharing any and he put in a handover plan in place.

Malthouse still took all his knowledge out the door and Collingwood have slipped ever since.

Just watched the presser, i wonder when PJ will don the Navy blue and red stripped tie?

Why most of the previous holders have not covered it in Glory!

Based on the results so far he can wear any colour he likes

After having the arvo to think about my thoughts on it, I thought I'd post it now.

In my opinion, I feel neeld polarised the playing group early on. Sure, he removed some players who weren't going to take us forward, but I feel that fractured the playing group and probably created doubt. Neeld would have been seen as cam schwab's puppet per se, and that probably added to the lack of application from some players. That said, I wonder about the mental damage that we now see on grimes, Howe, trengove, Strauss, blease and watts, who now have 3-4 years on an afl list and have seen 2 coaches removed and have now to endure a new coach with new plans.

That said, I feel neeld had good intentions in regards to building a team of players who give 100% effort, 100% of the time. With the addition of Dawes, hogan, toumpas, Clark and viney, added to trengove, Howe, frawley, garland and grimes, we have the core for players who are dedicated and live a lifestyle focused on getting the best out of themselves and will provide leadership and attention to detail, preparation and recovery.

I was neither pro or anti neeld. But I am pro- demon. I'm frustrated that our club is again the laughing stock of the afl. I'm frustrated that we've played just 11 games and we are facing half a season of "treading water" with no actual game plan or structure to adhere to. I'm frustrated that we now have cost a second coach his job with incompetence at board, recruiting and development levels. I'm frustrated at the uncertainty we now face for the remainder of the season, and that players who should be focused just on developing and playing, now also don't know their futures or their long term positions in the team.

Disappointing day all round. I hope that this is the last disappointing day that we have, as all supporters have been through every emotion other than jubilation at winning games.

Thanks mark for your efforts, I hope that your culture changing efforts are one day vindicated with Clark, hogan, Dawes and co leading the way to a successful period in time for the demon footy club!

It just makes it look more and more obvious that his only reason for being there is to bail us out on behalf of the AFL, he's not an MFC employee..

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
