David Neitz should be there - record games, record games as captain, record goals. How could Garry Lyon possibly be there ahead of him? Russell Robertson played more games and kicked more goals than G.Lyon.

Why not have confidence in Craig as a circuit breaker? V successful with Crows

And has an impeccable record as a one-time first-up Interim Coach.

He took over at Adelaide from Gary Ayres after the club's third win for the season in June 2004 against second-placed Melbourne at AAMI.

Crows won 22.13 (145) to 10.13 (73). Who'd have thought.

Maybe he asked the performing players to stand up and critique the non-performing ones, and the age/experience thing just fell as it did.

But yeah, sounds pretty demoralising.

Neita has done a lot more good for the fortunes of the club too.

It is now ancient history HH

We are all clever with hindsight.

Lets concentrate on the the future because IMO this is our last chance.

No hindsight from me 'old dee', CS should never have been here I've always said that. Unfortunately for Neeld he bought the snake oil and that's the biggest mistake he made.

...but as you say it's time to move on and yes I believe it is our last chance too.

Its funny because after the maggies game he was going on about it being the young players showing up the older guys, particularity in terms of the older players turning it over (which was a a bit funny because i recall all players, including young guys butchering it. Terlich was poor as was Blease in this regard). Now i get he was frustrated and perhaps he was right but still i subscribe to the public praise private criticism approach. It seemed at times he could barely hide his contempt for some players

Your last sentence resonates with me, old dee.

How many goes at this do we want? Fair dinkum, if there is another eff-up during another rebuild I doubt the club will survive.

This is it.

Ed: upon reading this post again I found it very 'WYL' like.... Apologies..

Neeld won't be happy - let's not try and convince ourselves that this is a win win for everyone. It might be a weight off stress wise, but he's now unemployed, and, and the thought that he's failed in his one shot at success at the highest level will burn. I really do feel for him, but that's not to say I don't think it's the right decision.

Neeld is in the profession and will know that you live or die by your results; his were unacceptable and he would have also known that, so I don't feel sorry for him, I feel sorry for the MFC because he has set us back 5 or so years and hopefully only that long. My allegiance is with the club not the coach.

This is a pretty interesting piece from Rohan Connolly in The Age, and probably on the money in many respects.

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/neeld-just-one-part-of-the-problem-20130617-2odd2.html

Discusses the post-match meeting after the Round 1 loss to Port where Jack Viney spoke. According to the article, Neeld asked the youngsters to critique the efforts of the more senior players, a version which I haven't heard before. At the time, it was reported that Viney had spoken of his own accord.

Just read on Twitter..................Mark Neeld to appear on Footy Classified tonight.

That will be very interesting viewing............I wonder if he will be as cool and calm as he was at the press conference today, or may drop a few bombs.

No need to apologise McQueen You did call me a liar or names.

The rest is only our individual opinions.

However I do seriously believe it is our last chance.

We are still far from out of the woods and it will be a long haul after half a decade of abject failure on and off the field.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
