Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Thanks, good for a chuckle!

Pagan at Carlton 2003-2007

22 wins from 104 games

You know as well as anyone that Carlton were crippled by salary cap breaches in that period.

Not meaning to sound ageist (I'm not far behind them), but Pagan and Sheedy were both born in 1947 and are probably past their use by date as serious coaching contenders (exemplified by Sheedy's work at GWS). Methinks the game has probably left them behind and if we are going to chase a new coach, it needs to be someone who is currently involved at the top level (other than Sheeds who I doubt is really involved anyway).

Big fan of Pagan. Was calling (on here) for him to be considered for the gig before Neeld got the nod.

Ruthless, but has he been out of the game too long? I'd prefer he was invovled at some level (similar to Eade). Was coaching Northern Knights in 2009, not sure if he is still there. If he is, he's absolutely worth talking to.

For the fwits who are looking at his time at Carlton as some indication of his ability, you are confirming you limited knowledge and understanding of football.

No. Not Pagan. We need someone young and tough.

Yeah....Someone like Mark Neeld....?

Besides he doesn't even work in footy anymore, he's in real estate!

I can't help but feel that Carey is describing exactly what Neeld has try to do with this list, and those same characteristics that Neeld has been criticised for showing.

Spot on. But no argument from me that we need someone with experience & profile. Roos fits the bill, but he may not have the hunger for the task. Eade & Williams would be my next ports of call. Not sure what happens to Craig in all of this though. Would like to see him stay. We can't be paying off everyone ..

was at a function where glen manton said pagan was divisive, not liked and was not a nice person, even outside of football. Not his exact words but you get the gist.

As said before, 15 years ago I would have snapped him up in a heartbeat. But he's been out of the game too long and I'm not sure that his methods would be effective in this day and age.

Watching replays of Pagan's Kangaroos (and others from that era) is a real eye-opener. It is such ordinary football.

People seem look back with rose-coloured glasses at the way footy used to be but the skill, speed and above all, decision making of the players today is so much better.

There's a classic final between the Kangas and Dogs that often gets replayed on the premise that it is one of the great games of footy and it makes me laugh every time. It is just rubbish - bombing the ball without looking from half back to half back until finally a forward bobs up with a pack mark.

Compare that with the play of the Sydney Swans on the weekend and it's like we're talking about two different sports. Sydney's decision making and execution was sublime - they were able to work their way through any jam without panicking.

While I can't tell you whether Pagan understands modern footy well enough to coach again, the one thing that is clear is that the game is evolving at a rapid rate and it is hard to imagine someone who has spent that long out of it could slot back in with any assuredness.

I think Wayne Carey is becoming a bit unhinged.

I met Denis at a function last year and found him very affable and a great conversationalist, particularly on football matters.

No doubt, he would have his own views on how to bring the club up to speed but I think he would also most likely agree that the job of coaching a successful AFL side in this modern era is not for him. He's about a generation away from being that ideal coach for us - assuming such a person exists.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
