Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Whilst we are giving regular games to guys like Bugg and Vandenberg, we should be strongly in the market for quality players such as Mitchell. Surely we can come up with a better offer than Hawthorn.

Indeed.

Yeah but Mitchell still has to want to come to us. That's where the problem is.

If the money were good enough I'm sure he'd want to come. From all accounts the only reason he is leaving is for money, I'm not sure if we are after players who are just chasing the coin.

And Hawthorn (who are famous for not paying highly) are offering him way more coin than anyone else would?

They're also interested in Vickery and an injury prone O'Meara. I think they're attempting to delay their slide down the ladder.

If Franklin and Tippett want ongoing premiership success, they're the ones that should be taking a haircut, like the senior players at Geelong and Hawthorn have over their premiership years. Apparently the money being offered to Mitchell by the Swans is about the same as what we're paying Melksham. It's left Mitchell with no choice but to leave.

Agree, although I am sure this is overstated.
When Hodge, Mitchell, Gibson & Burgoyne re-signed this season, Hodge publicly spoke about taking a haircut to let the club recruit big names to keep them in contention.
Nice bit of spin from Hodge, but essentially he & his mates were simply offered much smaller contracts because they are cooked.
Their options were probably accept this one-year deal for peanuts, or retire.

This is why clubs like us continue to struggle.

Mitchell or another quality player might want sign with say a Hawthorn and take 600K.

For Melbourne to entice the same player we would potentially have to offer 20% more and a longer contract term.

Not saying that this is always going to be the case but historically it has.

I think an interesting part of this is how the Hawks plan to get the deal done, if another went to Mitchell with the same sort of offer and said we can get the deal done, he might be a chance to take it because the Hawks will really struggle with this trade.

Just postulating, how would we get it done, if we wanted to say keep next year's first pick, as we haven't got this year's ?

Agree with your statement about the Hawks getting a deal done.

O'Merea - GCS have publicly stated that they want a deal similar to what GWS got for Treloar.

Mitchell - Swans will be asking for a fair bit too.

Hawks Should get a decent pick for Hill. Maybe the compensation pick they will get for Mayne if its second round.

Swans might have a look at Shoenmakers.

Do we really need a player like Mitchell?  I know he's a quality player but we have a few similar types already.

I'm not sure we're in the position to do a trade like that this year "Redleg" or even what the Swans think he's worth in a trade, i'd say our 2017 first round pick and something else would be a starting point if i had to guess.

a club like Richmond however could offer up Deledio and get a first round pick in and potentially make the move a lot easier for Mitchell, obviously he feels the money the Swans are offering isn't enough, and wants to get as close to the same sort of on field success as possible for what he feels is more appropriate remuneration

Then he wouldn't be looking at Richmond.

Same problem with Rockliff.

Unless Tigers perhaps pay part of Deludios contract. Same goes for Brisbane with Rockliff.

Interesting that it's been reported that the dogs will pay Clokes entire contract next year without the Pies having to chip in.  As a result you will see the Pies accepting a say pick 50 or so when they could have got more if they'd agreed to keep part of Clokes salary on their books

We had to do it with Travis. Depends on how much they want to move these players on.

10 disposals in the first quarter, 3 clearances. Matchwinning quarter there. He absolutely smashed the Cats in tight. $500-700k might be a bargain.

Just don't let the Hawks get him, everyone.

I can't believe that the Swans will let this bloke go, for a bit more money. Absolutely ridiculous.

They either delist or trade someone, or convince some players like Buddy , Tippett, McVeigh, Kennedy, Jack, Hanneberry etc, to take a small pay cut.

You don't lose a player like Mitchell.

And they won't.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
