All our required players have signed over power of attorney to Jack so he can sign them up on new contracts???

Good news in a bad week but in all honesty did we expect anything else, Grimesy is red & blue through and through

Anyone who doubts that Grimes is the right man for the captaincy is an idiot. End of discussion.

Well done Grimesy. Now lets sign Frawley and be done with it.

He is an excellent captain IMO. Should be sole captain but there is leadership in Trenners as well. I'd just like to see them both play good football together.

Good work Jack!

Why, because he signed a contract? He is a good captain, I don't doubt that, but I'm now more of the thought that we would be better off with him as VC and Jones as capt. Both bleed red n blue, but Jones is the more consistent performer and sets an example every other player would be wise to follow; he is relentless, fearless and hard at it 100% of the time and on top of that, he has shown that a mediocre player can step up and become a class act.

No, because he leads by example on and off the field.

This is not a knock on Jones, but Grimes has been in the leadership group since his second year at the club. That says something.

I thought he's been one of our best in a dismal start to the season.

Absolutely fantastic.

I have nothing but admiration for the way Grimes has conducted himself this season.

Has given 100% in both games and played excellently whilst also dealing with the media onslaught.

I admit I did doubt the decision to make him captain, but after this year I have realized that he is the right man for the job.

Still only 23 years old as well, which is exciting.

Well done Jack!

I agree on everything you say about Grimes, but I think in the long term Jones is the better prospect as a captain... he has proven himself to be the most consistent on the field and at training and has proven that he is one of the very few who can perform under the pressure of expectation.

Anyway, I shouldn't have taken us down this path I think... I will just praise Grimes for his committing to the club (and hope that a few more follow his lead) :-)

Love it how he "pushed to get it done this week". Talk about leading by example..

Indeed! The boy is made of the right stuff! Let's hope it rubs off on the others!

Great bloke, we are very lucky to have him! hopefully this show of faith will help rally the team abit

This thread deserves a bump..

C'mon folks, the captain has re-signed for another three years in the midst of the club's darkest hour.

His co-captain did a similar thing in 2011.

With the regular press speculation about how our better players are desperate to leave the club / in the sights of rival clubs, it speaks volumes that our two captains believe the future is bright for the MFC.

Reckon he is heading for his first Bluey, and nobody on the list deserves it more.

SO glad this MFC warrior is over the serious injuries that stalled the start of his career.

Go get em Grimesy

^^Absolutely.

Quotes:

“I was glad it all happened this week, because I really wanted to show the faith that I have in the club and where we’re heading. I’m definitely not heading anywhere, and I’m sticking to it."

“It hasn’t been a good week at all for the Dees, but I’m absolutely pumped to sign for another three years after this year, and I couldn’t be happier.”

“I really wanted to show my support towards the club in a week like this. I pushed for it to get done this week, because I thought it’d be a good week to do it. It had been in the pipeline for a couple of weeks.”

Well done Jack.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
