I've said it before, Matt Thompson is the epitome of AFL journos – he’s a fatty who seems to have gained his footy 'pedigree' from sitting on the couch all weekend watching every game with beer and pie in hand.

Easy. That's my footy pedigree too ;)

any here reckon this report is true? he'll be our coach.

Im actually pretty sceptical but never the less interested.

Neeld has not been here for 7 years......He has been here for 1 and a 1/4......He took on a basket case and stated when he first arrived that it would take 3 years to even resemble an AFL side......He also brought in one of the people that is accredited for StKilda's three grand final appearances......Many here think he should go now.....but very few can tell me who will replace him and the football dept...1/4 through the year....Will you be yelling for the next coach to be sacked when he loses the first 5 games next year???Think a bit long term....and not instant success.......

You know exactly what the 7 years is referring too. It was not humanly possible to go backwards after 186. We have gone along way back in Neelds stint thus far. I repeat he can not coach and is killing our club rapidly. Who will replace him? Chocko Williams jumps to mind, Paul Roo's, Bomber Thompson. Gee what have these blokes got in common? Think long term you say! FFS.

The fact that there is a report in my opinion is actually a good thing. Those interested will actually put their people in contact with our people and we'll start to create demand, and get a real feel for what's out there.

And our current coach will feel the pressure of this reporting and hopefully fight for his job by doing his best to make us as competitive as possible by year end.

Who loses? I hope this is the powers that be at the MFC getting on the front foot for once.

I simply can not stand the dragon lisp lady.

Can't stand her or not, everything she said in the video clip is true.

I feel sorry for both Bailey and Neeld, they were/are responsible for attempting to do the almost impossible, in trying to turn the fortunes of the MFC around. Not even the best of coaches would seemingly be able to do that.

I agree, Paul Roos on his own couldn't do a thing with this club, Paul roos, jackson, new assistants and so on potentially could.

Having said that, Mark Neeld may well be on the right track

Just a question regarding this topic, If this is true, and for example we sacked Mark Neeld this week, could Paul Roos take over this year or would he have to wait until seasons end?

Theoretically we could, but it seems unlikely. 2013 is already over for us and most potential coaches have contracts with other clubs or media outlets they'd need to fulfill.

If we are going this poorly with 4-6 weeks to go I'd think we might move to a stand in coach so that the Football world knows the job is open. If the club has any foresight their plan could be in place by then anyways. They'd only need to sack a coach if the supporter angst grew to a deafening level before year end in that case.

If we are going to secure a competent and capable coach I would expect at the very least that he would want to know who the CEO he would be working with and understand the outcome of Jackson's review of the club and what the AFL intends to do in respect of the Club and the Board to address these matters

Any coach not establishing the disposition of these issues is unbelievably naive and will likely go the same way as his predecessors.

Or they may already know who is going to take over RR. You just never know what happens behind closed doors.

If we don't at least inquire about his services and ask what it would take to get him on board, then our administration should give themselves an uppercut.

It costs nothing to ask, and you just never know your luck. If all it takes is money, or getting rid of certain people around the club, then bloody hell get it done.

I would also hope we chat to Williams, Eade and anyone else who we might think is worth while.

And FFS, stop listening to Gary Lyon!!!!!!!!

I agree to an extent but anything that happens must happen with Mark Neeld being treated with at least some respect. I'm getting tired of people at the club getting treated like rubbish.

Brisbane's announcement is in a way a comment on this whole debate. they have obviously canvassed the same risks as we are thinking about - and their position is not as dire as ours. Not to say they are right, but they must feel they have done their due diligence. interesting to see how it pans out for them.

And they will be all over Paul Roos too.

the MFC cant be caught napping once again.

Neeld is in a deep hole - far deeper than Voss. Question is, is he digging, or filling it in?

The thing i find interesting is if Roos or any other coach comes in and we improve from next year on, is that a reflection on us being impatient because Neeld said 2014 from the start, or is that a reflection on his inability to coach?

I can't see Neeld lasting the year out, then next year you potentially add a couple of free agents, jesse hogan and a priority draft pick to our list, as well as a full pre season and out best 22 on the park, get a fully fit, dawes, clark, trengove, grimes, and so on and add them to our team

I think Neeld has set a very solid foundation for him or our next coach to work with.

Does anyone seriously think that Roos or any other experienced coach for that matter would be interested in going to a club that sacks a succession of coaches mid contract?

Is he / are they masochists?

if the club hired more experienced coaches i doubt they would need to be sacked with such regularity.

Pure logic i know!

Don't worry fellow Demonlanders the dees will find a way NOT to get Roos and he will end up at Brisbane cause that's what the Dees are good at.

Based on past experience it wouldn't surprise me if we chose another untried coach and that Mr I'm to Busy in the Media is on the selection panel.

God help us if the above comes to fruition.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
