What Clubs Do You Love To Hate?

Irish Demon

Recommended Posts

As I said in a previous post, as the psychiatrist on the wonderful Fawlty Towers said "there is enough material there for a full conference", this topic and the 'most Punchable heads" topic really concern me about the mindset of so called footy supporters......hate, punch.....or are these topics just an indictment on modern society......it's just footy.........

.the only people in the world I would wish ill on are the bankers at Lehman Bros who got away scot free after destroying the retirement of thousands of people by their greed......but the fact that they got away with it is also an indictment on modern society and I have no control over that

Isn't all that part of being a sports fan?Isn't rivalry a part of sport? We all love our respective teams in any sport and i think it's just natural to have a healthy dislike for other teams.Of course im not saying that we should attack fans of opposition clubs or any of that carry on.I mean hate in a good natured banter sort of way.Like enjoying some banter with your mates at the workplace. There's a lot more things to be worried about in society than people disliking other teams.I don't think the fact that some Melbourne fans dislike Collingwood and vice versa will cause a house of hades scenario that threatens the welfare of society as we know it.

The only 'club' I hate is GW$. Will do nothing but be a drain on AFL funds for years. Cannot understand this country's obsession with pandering to that particular area.

With regards to supporters, Norf have to be number one. A sadder bunch of flogs you will never see.

I actually don't mind North credit where credits due they earned those 4 flags. The AFL tried to relocate them a few years ago but it didn't work out for them.North just ignore the haters and keep on battling on.I'd say it would sicken some of the suits in the AFL if the Kangas make the finals again this year taking into account the tough draw that was handed to them.

Although the filth won flags in 1990 and 2010 both Footscray and Collingwood have paid dearly for interrupting our winning run in the 50's.Footscray haven't won a single flag since that day in 1954 and the Collywobbles lost the 1960 1964 1966 1970 1977 1979 1980 1981 2002 2003 and 2011 grand finals.I guess it's true what they say about the Norm Smith curse! :)

Couldn't happen to a nicer team ...

That's what I was trying to say. Whilst I respect North THE CLUB, its supporters are the most insufferable by far.

Can we please change the title of this thread? The word "hate" is far too strong and can be found in the phrase "hate crime."

"Less fond" my be less offensive to some viewers.

The Pies for obvious reasons and the Saints (only because my wife is a Saints fan and gives it to me every time they beat us)

I think you need to rethink your bets that you make with your wife. I find having to do the dishes much more tolerable if we lose, but each to their own.

Although, if it's a long standing bet, you might as well hang in there for a couple more seasons, as it won't be long until the tide turns...

I can honestly say I hate Meth Coast and I really mean that, I hate no sporting team or organisation in the world more than that lot. I still love watching the 2005 Grand Final

Is it that whole shinboner spirit thing that they keep blabbering on about?

Ha post of the thread! What is it with the Eagles that's so annoying? Is it the theme song?Is it the flying high since 1987 signs? Is it that they have no heritage and tradition?I suppose it's a combination of all three factors that when added together result in a very unpleasant combination.Their like some sort of Frankenstein club.I don't mind the Dockers though to be honest.

I think losing in Grand Finals is over-rated, esp in Collingwood's situation. Imagine if Melbourne had been to the well that many times since Ron jumped ship. I was reading the other day that Bob Rose (Collingwood coach in the 60's) had been offered a huge sum to play in the bush in the 1950's but knocked it back out of loyalty to Collingwood, where he was on a pittance. In the case of the '64 grand final we won but lost, with Ron becoming a football mercenary and tragic Bob going on to make history for successive grand final and finals losses until their breakthrough flag in 1990. The pies have been a finals team all through the modern era whereas we have been scratching around the cellar. All that history helped forge Collingwood's current identity, whereas our club well and truly left the building the moment after Barassi let go of the premiership

Why?

So you liked the idea of the Melbourne Hawks?

Their supporters are fair weather supporters to a tee. I first emigrated from Ireland as a kid and picked the Dees because fate dealt me the hand of the first game I watched was Melbourne v Fitzroy and I picked the Dees. Many of the kids I went to school with were Hawks, Bombers & Blues fans as they were the powerhouse clubs of that era, god those years were hard as a Dees fan. We returned to Ireland for a few years and we returned to Perth when Meth Coast came in, plenty jumped on board which you expect but I and others stayed true to our teams. A large group of kids at school followed the Hawks, Bombers & Bluebaggers who were still strong.

They taunted Meth Coast in the early days prior to Malthouse coming and stood fast to staying true to your team. Around this time I headed back to Ireland and followed the Dees from a far with videos sent via the post and week old replays on RTE or Channel 4. When I returned in 96 all the Hawks, Bombers & Blues fans had jumped on board the Meth Coast bandwagon after their long run of success. These same people hate to be reminded of their previous allegiances and now claim to have always been Meth Coast fans since their inception. It continues to this day to see grown men in their 20's & 30's suddenly take up following the Eagles (especially from 2003-2007) claiming to be lifelong fans is an embarrasment. They whinge about not being able to get membership but ask them why they didn't joing up in 2000/01 and the conversation suddenly ends.

That is a short version of where my hatred started

1. COLLINGWOOD clear winners! 1958 is the perfect reason to hate them.

2. WEST COAST I live in Perth, say no more! ( Don't mind the Dockers though.)

3. NORTH MELBOURNE Always regarded them as a dirty team nicknamed the 'shin boners' for good reason.

4. ESSENDON Mainly because just about all the kids in Frankston PS barracked for them in the 1950's. They wore the same jumpers as Frankston footy team.

Reading through these posts it looks like we have a degree of tolerance for Geelong, Footscray and the Dockers. I guess we do feel a bit sorry for the Bullies since their premiership wait is 10 years longer than our own and the Dockers haven't made it yet. I guess we just respect Geelong and their achievements.

You want to upset collingwood supporters? Just tell them you dont hate any team especially the new teams, eagles, gws, bears, collingwood or essendon, after all we let them play our game.

They love to be hated so take that away from them ,they go ballistic especially when you call them a new team.

North bought the first 2 flags they won in the 70's.....Good luck to them, but it was done with the paper bag.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
