Kent from Clackline

Recommended Posts

Kent from Clackline sounds a bit like the name of one of our Demonland reporters but it's actually one of our more promising recruits.

Personally, I'm a bit disappointed that neither he nor Jack Viney are going to be out there playing at Casey Fields today but I suppose we can wait a few weeks.

He does look like a player though. It's heartening to see a young player who clearly has the right shape for an AFL player and gets to the right spots to be dangerous. His pre-season form has been really encouraging and he should be in contention for round 1.

I also enjoyed the line about changing his goals after missing out on the under 18s squad. No fuss, just got on with it. In the days of athletes chucking public tanties when things don't go their way, it is refreshing.

Accpording to the 2011 census there were 331 people in Clackline. I guess there's 330 now that Dean's left.

Looks a player to me. Might be one of those really good later picks.

I understand that he was the best player in Clackline and his Dad now has to play so that they can field a team.

Watching the Freo game yesterday one of the few players that gave me hope for the future was this bloke. Yes, I know he only got the ball 11 times and his disposal wasn't brilliant at 55% but he has something about him. He's quick, loves to run, loves to kick a goal, possesses a raking left foot and has toughness to go with the skills. I know I'm going early on a bloke who has only payed 21 games but I think he has the skills and temperament that would thrive under finals pressure. Either way I know I become less of a morose bastard when the footy is in Dean's hands

I agree findee. Kent is one of maybe a dozen on our current list who I see as central to our future, and (dare I say it), finals prospects. He has a bit of 'x factor', and I can see him turning big games for us in a couple of years. I know I'm a dreamer but .........

Edit: typo

Would love it if they started giving 5 minute burst in the midfield.. Reminds me Luke Shuey in the style he plays.

I can kind of see Dangerfield like aspects to his game, hard as nails, explosive pace, I reckon he is going to be a genuine game breaker, would like to see us try and lock him away for a few years.

Hes a bit of a rare beast currently in our line up.

Roos lamented that we just dont take our opportunities when theyre there and yet heres one kid who takes an opportunity when it ISNT there.!! He actually looks to make a play, how refreshing. He wants to go forward instead of hesitatingly chipping sideways etc, even more refreshing.

He needs more refining and polish to his work but I too see him amongst a future 22 with promise

Its actually good watching him. With some players you sigh and think , "hows he going to f it up this time " With Kent its " ooh wonder what he might do here "

Pleasant change :)

Believe Hunt is a similar type. If he comes on in the next couple of years it could provide that run and polish so desperately needed.

and again its interesting to note neither Hunt nor Kent were high draft picks... nor was JKH.

haha.. "Shuey", "Dangerfield" and "Swan".. love a comparison, whats next Leigh Matthews?

I like Dean Kent and agree with what has been said, just laughing at comparisons.. all in good humour.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
