The MFC better not be left with this debt at any stage....i would be very wary of an ongoing affiliation going forward here....

Something is rotting....

The following is a quote from the article

"Although most players have not been paid for the 2012 season, Casey insists it has money set aside for them."

Then why the hell have they not paid them?

Must be doing wonders for recruiting players for 2013 and who is going to take on the coaching position with no players for 2013

If they have the money set aside for them. Pay them.

The cost of running a standlone team has been reported as costing up to $500K*. Based on 2012 membership figures (which were down on 2011), this equates to ~$14 per member.

To put that in perspective, if we applied this as a flat 'tax' on 2013 members it would be a ~6% increase for Red & Blue Adult 11 (General Admission, home game only) members.

Using a proportional method, in which each member is levied a set percentage of their membership, memberships would increase by only a few percent across the board.

Thus, a fairer question is 'are you prepared to increase the size of your membership fee by less than 5% to fund a standalone team'?

To that I answer, resoundingly, yes.

*In case you're concerned about cost blowouts, if the figure was $600K it would be ~$17 per member, which equates to a little under an 8% increase for Red & Blue Adult 11 members if applied as a 'flat tax'.

A resounding yes from me too.

Over my coffee break I gave this a little thought.

This might just put the Dees in a strong position.

" do it my way fellas or we walk"

Lets see how clever CS and the board are over the next month.

The biggest worry for me would have to be the Casey Council themselves, lets hope the club dont have to have any dealings directly with them over this period.

They have shown to be the most inept, overpaid and corrupt local government body in the State. Google search Mike Tyler or Sam Aziz for a small sample.

I for one would hope we can keep the association going in some form however, perhaps a takeover in all but name such as the Northern Blues or Bendigo Bombers

have done the past couple of years...The local areas sheer population growth has been well tapped for a latent support base, if we can continue to play NAB cup games.

training, family days etc out there that can only grow..

I'd say they have a portion of projected revenue set aside for them.

You'd imagine they have to be very conservative cashflow projections.

Hi KC are you out there?

Any chance of some news on the Scorps

Seems there is lots of rumour but not much fact in the public domain.

Hope you are reading and can advise some good news

"...troubled alignment with Melbourne".

Spare me.

Mere semantics; it is a troubled allignment and it is with Melbourne.

actually more a troubled club aligned with Melbourne. Were OK, the alignment is for all intents ok,. its just the Scorps who live a precarious existence

I'm certainly out here but have been interstate visiting family while the storm was raging. Hopefully, things will settle down with the start of training and the appointment of the new coach. As far as I'm aware, the club will retain most of its players from last year save any who might be drafted into the AFL. One concern that I have is that some very promising players coming out of the Gippsland Power TAC Cup Under 18s are tending to go to other VFL clubs because they are drawn to work and/or apprenticeships in the city. I understand that two very good players who have gone to Williamstown would be on the verge of being drafted or rookie listed. In any event, I trust that this scenario is not affecting the club's recruiting.

Interesting tweet from Sam Landsberger which suggest that things are looking up for the Casey Scorpions -

VFL clubs quick to move on axed Docker Jack Anthony ... Early mail is him to line up in the Casey Fields goalsquare next year.

Just what Hogan needs, a role model like Jack...

You're a journalist ...

You're female ...

Your initials are CW ...

You produce articles about 'No loan',but Scorps had a deal to pay

I read it before I checked what the initials stood for, but I realized it wasn't the miserable bitter writer ( I refuse to use the world journalist) from TheAge because there was no snide end note regarding " their affiliation with MFC who are struggling under mounting evidence of match fixing"!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
