"On the thread topic, I don't think we do ourselves any favours using words like "trollop"

Perhaps not, unless used as an abbreviation of "Troll Operation", in which case it's quite apt.

Not strictly on topic - but you might note that the highly discreet Mr Brock McLean has come out today and suggested that Chris Judd should resign as captain to concentrate on his own game. Knows his place, doesn't he Brock? After all a lot of players on one year contracts who have spent the past few years in the reserves make public comments on the standing of their captains?

Back to the vindictive lady - just had to refer to "the investigation into Melbourne's deliberate forfeiture of games" in her article on Adrian Anderson today didn't she? Not sure how you can say that a game lost after the siren was deliberately forfeited, Ms Wilson!!

The important point here being lost in the alleged tanking debate is the transparency of the AFL's processes. While I'm satisfied investigations - whether it is into allegations of tanking, draft tampering, salary cap breaches or players betting on football matches - should be done behind closed doors, I'm not so sure about the Commission's determinations on these matters. If it's good enough for our criminal and civil court processes to be conducted in public, perhaps it's time for AFL deliberations also to be. I accept that matters involving personal matters should be kept private, but I'm not so comfortable that matters involving the actions and behaviours of clubs should be.

The AFL can't have an open hearing because that is where all the dealings are done.

Ok you cop this punishment and I'll lean on GWS re Kurt and then he goes to Sydney. That way no one goes to court. Agreed?

Let's for just a minute assume it has. Anderson interviewed Bailey for a few minutes and was satisfied and cleared him of any wrongdoing (so called tanking).

If Anderson has taken a fall for incompetence or lack of thoroughness, shouldn't Andrew Demetriou be under the microscope too?

Anyway, on topic...Wilson writes...:

The move comes as AFL auditors continue to investigate the Melbourne Football Club for deliberately forfeiting games to gain early draft picks in 2009 and follows last Friday's heavy sanctions handed down to the Adelaide Football Club, key Crows officials and former player Kurt Tippett.

Interesting how it is now "auditors" rather than "internationally renowned investigator" or "integrity officers"

Caro has become very sloppy with her grammar and detail lately

In which game did we not field a side?

No silly. They are talking about the game that we deliberately forfeited. You know, the one where we were ahead at the final siren?? Do I have to spell it out....

Sorry my bad, always thought forfeiting was when you didn't turn up

The conspiracy theorists might like to wonder whether Anderson's departure is involuntary and linked to criticism of his handling of the tanking investigation in 2009. I suspect it's more likely that after 9 years he's decided he wants a change. Perhaps he'll go back to the law.

Thats a nice theory LDvC. Did someone conspire to buy him a cheap lunch, or maybe he just doesn't like being behind Gillon.

... and in other breaking news tonight, AFL's outgoing football operations chief Adrian Anderson has commenced an investigation into the Carlton Football Club following comments made by player Brock McLean alleging the Blues brought the game into disrepute by tanking in that they failed to put the best personnel into their leadership group in the latter half of season 2012. Unnamed sources point to the result of Carlton's game v lowly Gold Coast Suns at Carrara as clear evidence that the club forfeited the game but CEO Greg Swan says his club will strenuously defend the claim on the basis that McLean was suffering from foot in mouth disease when he made his comments.

Unfairfax News believes that the AFL must come down heavily on the club for breaching privacy laws in relation to McLean's condition. McLean is trying to rebuild his faith in the system after the pathetic and disgusting treatment he received from the Melbourne Football Club in 2009. If it is found that Melbourne CEO Cameron Schwab is involved in this latest slur, then he should be remanded in custody pending formal charges. Carlton captain Chris Judd whose fitness for the role McLean has questioned is reported to have told his wife Rebecca (pictured) that he doesn't place any credence on the views of VFL players.

Hats off to Saintsational poster White Winmar whose opening paragraph reads - "I have been subjected to the unfortunate situation in which I share mutual friends with Wilson. At the risk of attacking the woman, rather than what she writes, may I just say she is one of the most thoroughly unpleasant people I've ever met. She is contrary, rude, aloof and comes across as embittered. As for her writing, let's just say she reports gossip, rather than making any insightful observations. If she wasn't Ian wilson's little girl, I doubt we'd ever heard of her." **That's a tad unkind IMO because she is was a good journo in the past. Perhaps the pressures of working on a shocking and awful sinking ship have caused her to transmogrify into a gossip columnist.

And on the subject of gossip, I won't quote White Winmar's second paragraph but I'm tempted to send it to New Idea or Who Weekly. I'm sure they would have an investigative journalist on staff to check out what he claims to be impeccable "thourthes". PS: You will have to register to read Saintsational.

The slander against my good name is preposterous.

I have seen photographs and it is impossible for me, a dark, handsome and well bred Spaniard to make ficky, ficky with this person.

Could I suggest this is a case of mistaken identity? Perhaps, my very good friend Manuel from Barthelona?

The thing that makes suspicious that this isn't really Seve posting is why he didn't use a photo of himself!

Buried away in a previously unremarked upon article is grist for the Fan, Hazy, ADC mill (big props for CS) and what i would consider to be a pretty positive bit about where the tanking investigation is at. Funny CW hasn't mentioned that the AFL no longer are interviewing MFC employees and or that the investigation seems to hinge on comments from that Bailey consider a joke in a two hour footy meeting (as opposed to a secret Vault tank meeting):

Melbourne attempts to join the arms race with increased spending in the football department

Good get binman.

The AFL's concern centres on a comment from then football manager Chris Connolly, which former coach Dean Bailey is known to believe was a comedic throwaway line in a two-hour match committee meeting.

I would suggest that it's not only Dean Bailey who believes this but also anyone with half a brain who has followed this sham of a farce of an inquisition from its very beginning when Healy, Sheahan an Roos sat looking like stunned mullets while Baby Blue made a fool of himself in front of the cameras to the weeks and months of stupid media reportage and speculation.

I think it would make an appropriate epitaph for the inquisition.

The club should give McLean back his $5k ( or $15? or whatever) and wipe his name from the Foundation Heroes list. He's forfeited the right to be a hero of this club in any sense of the word. In fact he's the one who should be charged with bringing the game into disrepute!

Yet another fine article by Emma Quayle in the Age today. She writes simply and honestly without any suggestion of vitriol or hatred and dare I say she knows her stuff. She's coming to get you kero !

P.s. she has such a lovely smile as well, unlike Kero who looks like someone has rubbed a dog turd under her nose.

This article is a must read for all Demon fans. It is an excellent insight from Emma Quayle into what goes on behind the scenes in a day at the MFC during preseason. It proves to me again that we have the right people in charge to lead the club to success.

I was particularly heartened by Shannon Byrnes' comments at the very end of the piece. Well done and thanks, Emma!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
