Hey good on him for telling the club early.

But there is no room for those not 100% committed. This club has to fight for respect and survival going forward.

**sigh** - you do know that Moloney was a mad Melbourne supporter as well ?

Of course I am aware of that, he won our b&f last year year and was top ten in the brownlow medal(as much as it shocked me)

but lets be honest, there have been much worse performers for our club.

Why would you have even considered the Dees then...... If a kid on way and not wish a move.

Must be me...no logic

He might've been 50-50, in which case, wouldn't you want to at least dip your toes in before deciding one way or the other?

No problems with this; I'm glad he bailed early so we didn't waste too much in time and resources for a player who wasn't interested.

Yes, that is the correct reason... but you should be aware that if a player says "no" to the MFC, then it will be viewed as an affront to the club and its supporters on the forums ;-)

I think given he is leaving football totally it's not an affront.

Maybe he was concerned, like that other great loyal Demon who couldn't bear the drive to Casey, especially if he couldn't do burnouts on the oval, or was it the tanking.........or maybe the big brown paper bags full of something elsewhere.

Still, at least he didn't draw us out too long..

Sounds like he's been up front and honest about it, I think you're doing well to take issue with his decision. Good luck to him and wish him the best with the baby.

I agree... but there are others on the forms that won't see it like that, which was the point I was making.

Its his life, who gives a sh*t what he does, its not like we were chasing him. He only trained with us. No loss.

But any new name linked to the club gets me excited...Neeld probably knew he wasn't up to it would be my guess.

I would much rather see us play Rodan, Pederson and Stiller than some zero-game 18 year olds taken in the last handful of the draft. They are our options. Maybe there are some fringe players, say Bail, for example, that might miss out because these older blokes are in - I say that is fine, let them earn their spots. It appears that the Bailey philosophy of 'get them out there straight away and play them no matter what, they will grow into it' (a mantra endorsed by most here with 'play the kids' catch-cries)' has been an abject failure. A colossal disaster, in fact. The older group of recruits can provide experience and physical presence, even if they aren't much good. Neeld is clearly putting an end to the era of the baby demons, after many brutal beltings from more experienced, bigger sides.

IMO the 'play the kids at all costs' mantra failed due to the lack of experience surrounding these young players. They required strong leadership. If we had a Shane Crawford or Chris Judd type on our list when Bailey came in, I don't think they would have been cut. They would have offered strong leadership. The likes of Yze, Bruce, White etc didn't.

That said, I think Neeld has a better feel for what is needed - the importance of balance in this area.

It also failed because it interfered with the natural order of things.

IE work your arse off, get BOG at Casey for a lot of games in a row and then you might be considered for a senior berth. It inhibited what should have been the striving for excellence for the group.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
