GREATER Western Sydney will recruit out-of-contract forward Kurt Tippett - if it can afford him.

Giants CEO Dave Matthews confirmed the club had today discussed the controversial former Crow at a football sub-committee meeting.

"Now that it looks like Kurt Tippett is into one of the next couple of drafts clearly it means he is someone we should be discussing. We did that today, we had a football sub-committee and Sheeds was in that. He was the subject of plenty of discussons,"

"He was the subject of plenty of discussons"

Curious about this line. How many discussion could they have had about Tippett?

Surely, "Should we get Tippett?" is about the extent of it.

If Goddard is worth pick 13, Tippett would have to be around the mark. Can just see him ending up at Sydney, however.

i think the AFL will want to punish all concerned with this sour dealing.

So I can't see the suns getting him in any way, nor the swans, & I think the Crows will be made example of. And Kurt, boy oh boy, could be way out West?

:)

What does happen if he's delisted & goes free agency?

The guy wants about $1mill per year for 4 yrs minimum. How can GWS possibly find that kind of space in their salary cap at this stage in their planning for 2013? They'd have to delist a couple of decent players on $300-400k p/a, surely. Can't see it happening. But it'd be nice if he went 1, 2 or 3 in the ND. Give us more choice at 4. Go for it, Sheeds!

I think GWS will take him in either the preseason or proper draft.

Will be really interesting if he goes in the national draft,as this will leave us to choose between Wines and Toumpas or Wines and Grundy.

If they take him in the preseason draft, then Ben Jacobs is ours.

Dimitriou will invent a new salary cap concession for GWS is they want Tippett.

They could offer his dad a job building a giants dolls house.

This is going to be interesting in how it affects Sando and the mob onfield at Adeaide. Compared to the off-field incidents our club put up with this year it is nothing, but still, losing a valuable player and then having a whole bunch of off-field issues to deal with will test the crows.

You are almost certainly right. So much for Dumbitriou's oft quoted "integrity of the game...of the draft...of the salary cap etc etc..."

Very interesting situation. The AFL must have a heavy hand in all this, but at the same time do not wish to end in court.

Court is a possibility make no mistake.

Does anyone really know what GW$'s salary cap actually is?

Tippet will probably end up a giant and no sanctions will come his way. The integrity of the A.F.L will be upheld.

Yep, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they new of it before the media, & then have to take steps to make a show out of it.

They can't have a mercinary bring down the only controls that stop open slather.

GWS could well pick him up with there pick 12, I doubt they will use their first 3 picks on him.

The Lions have a shot before that I think.

#Edit: But what about the delisted free agents clause. How will that work?

Given the rumours of GWS planning to take the three gun mids with their picks, I would do backflips if they then decided to draft Tippett with one of them. What an absolute stroke of luck for us if that happens.

They do, but will they pay the price? I still don't think GWS will take him top 3 but let's wait and see, hope they do.

He would have to be delisted to b a free agent and I don't think Adelaide have done that yet, have they?

Tippett was offered a contract, so cannot be considered a delisted free agent.

Also, GWS have picks 1, 2, 3, 12 and 14 in the ND; if they want him, they can take him with pick 12 or 14. Lions first pick is 8; GC 13...... and swans 23...lol.

If he goes into PSD, he has GWS, GC, MFC and lions to get past before swans. Who knows, but I would guess we have the SC space to get him (if we want, and he is not de-registered).

The idea of a GC land developer getting screwed is very appealing to me. :o

Ed: what I don't understand is how a money grubbing, elitist, egotistical, manipulative piece of [censored] fits into the swans famous "culture". Go figure.

Agree with you on this, I think if he is available at 12 they will have a serious look but won't use their first 3 picks, unfortunately for us.

I think that is a good point if Sydney did draft him for the $1m per year contract the so called "Bloods" culture will be a sham. If and when this occurs it will be interesting to see how Paul Roos and to some extent Gerard Healy try and spin this. I know I will be emailing "On The Couch" next year if he did end up at Sydney. lol

I think contracts end prior to the draft.

After he's out of contract, he's a free agent, I think.

No. As he was offered a contract by the crows, which he rejected, he is NOT a free agent; he must go into the ND and/or PSD.

Thanks 'Mono', that clears it up a bit more for me. I knew he wouldn't come under a free agent but wasn't sure of the technical reasons why.

Posted

He's been offered a contract so he can't be a delisted FA and the AFL told Adelaide they can't delist him now so he has to go into one of the drafts. I'd be amazed if GWS used 1, 2 or 3 on him - coud you have seen them trading any of these picks straight up for him? Much more likely Brisbane at 8, GWS at 12, GC at 13 or Sydney at 23 - maybe the Dogs at 6.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
