Looking back at it "delistings/retirements" did we get it wrong?

My opinion is that we were spot on.

Junior - didn't play much and has retired

Green - retired this year

Cameron Bruce - retired this year

Did we really lose a lot by forcing the hand of those on the verge of ending their careers?

Thread title isn't correct. I don't know that we ALL thought we got it wrong.

Well the fact that they were replaced on the list by players like Cook then yes we did lose

The gain was a one or two year advance on the draft picks, and presumably some salary cap space saved.

The loss was experienced players of varying value.

Given that it isn't even possible to give a decisive call one way or the other in hindsight, where's the value in trying to second guess the decisions made at the time?

Opened up the thread thinking it was about Jack Watts, he did poll 3 against the Bombers

We only ever gained the OPPORTUNITY to draft another young player, regardless of who it was, but some won't realise that and will focus on irrelevancies...

We lost the leadership of these blokes but we needed new blood. We got it right and new leaders are emerging .

With BP being the one to draft players I think it was totally relevant on how many players he was allowed to draft. If it were up to me I would have minimised the amount of players he could draft as much as possible and not go delisting Junior

opportunity was lost. That's what i realize.

Well that's just an absurd statement.

Screwing Junior over for the sake of a year was a monumental [censored] up.

He had valuable leadership attributes that we desperately needed and wanted, and was an examplery player for us.

Sometimes I shake my head at some of the stupidly idiotic decisions we have made with our list.

Newton got an extra year but Junior didn't. I mean FFS!

It was an epic fail.

Dont worry, we got Cook now

considering he went to play for the ammos last year, was it wrong?

Just asking

I don't see how that impacts on judgement of the decision tbh.

What was he to do when he felt he had another year in him? Sit on his hands out of respect to the club that shafted him?

his hammy injury took a long time to recover. How many games could he have played at top level in 2011?

That was the quandry the club had.

So even in retrospect you think it was the right decision?

In the games he played this year he more than proved he was capable of competing at AFL level. Our team is bereft of senior leaders and we denied a club captain and one of its great servants an extra year. It was a [censored] up, and it still irks me.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
