WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CAMERON PEDERSEN

Hannibal

Recommended Posts

the only thing holding this up , Pedersen to Dees , is the Roos having some ridiculous idea that hes worth a much higher pick ( to us ) and in so forward that pick on to Port as part of the Ben Jacobs deal.

Who gives a flying proverbial or cares about North ffs. personally I reckon the Roos are dreaming...isnt that right Dale !!

It is just staggering how pick 49 would not suffice for a 25 year old who played 2 games this season. Pederson has showed some promise but not getting a game ahead of Aaron Edwards, Robbie Tarrant and no-names like Delaney, Black etc. is a bit concerning.

We went early on Byrnes and watered down our compo.

We paid overs for Dawes (pick 20 should have been more than enough but some turkey put pick 13 on the table for Dawes and forced our hand).

Don't pay overs again Melbourne. We'll get 3-4 years out of Pederson. Pick 33-38 could deliver a 10 year midfielder, like (we all hope) Taggart is, and Sellar can play a similar swing man role.

No expert on these things but does this work?

Martin to Lions

Picks 33,49 to Nth

Nth Melbourne pick 38 to St Kilda

Pedersen, Ray to Dees.

Think that trade was detailed on the Facebook page but we threw in Bennell too. So effectively we gave up Martin, Bennell and 49 and recieve Pedersen and Ray. Pretty good deal I reckon.

if North are playing hard ball then lets just walk away. They need to offload him more than we need to get him i would say. They will come crawling back when they need the extra pick for whatever other deals they need to get done. I would focus our attention on getting Ray.

FFS who is Pederson seriously? if Hamish Mcintosh is worth pick 36 then why are we suddenly prepared to part with something similar for this guy. I'm all for getting him but only for pick 45+ max.

I'm amused by the logic that we should limit ourselves to pick 45+ because you don't know who he is.

Maybe Martin & Pick 63 for 33. Assuming that Pick 63 is one that Brisbane would use?

Why have we all got so crazy about getting this 26 year old Werribee player?

I could say the same thing about the fascination of picks in the 40s and 50s.

'He's not worth 44, but maybe 45... 46 you say? Heavens, that a steal!'

Because some DL's have seen a two minute utube video of his hightlights and "wow" this bloke can play

I could put up a utube video of Juice Newton's highlights and guess what.....DL's would be wanting to grab him at pick 33.......

I know that other clubs wouldnt be prepared to give up a second round pick for him isnt that enough?

No, not really. His value may be more to us than it would be to other clubs, or it could be that there are varying opinions of his ability. It's not as black and white as saying he spent the year in the VFL therefore he's not worth anything. I'm not saying I would or wouldn't pay a second round pick, just saying you need to look at the entire picture.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that the one thing that has changed at the Melbourne football club in the last year is that we have worked towards creating a system where we can better develop the players that come to the club.

Misson, Craig and a suite of assistant coaches who have come from clubs that have a good track record with developing players to enter the afl system will nodoubt have an impact on our ability to develop players like never before. If this puts us on a path to become a bit more like Sydney and Geelong then I'd like to think that we can begin to trust that we will get the most out of players no matter where we have come from.

I am sure that initially some of the draft selections that Sydney and Geelong have made in the past have been highly scrutinized by their supporters. Richards, Mcglynn, Mattner at Sydney. J Pod at Geelong. People laughed when the Pies took Brown and what did people have to say about Gunston who played almost purely in the SANFL in 2010?

I think our game plan is on the move and we are seeking people like Pederson and Ray to play a very specific role. Sorry long winded answer to your question.

Because the "Best of Juice" was not even worthy of someone wasting time to record it.

That's why we are going after a Werribee player. At least he can kick a ball straight consistently.

By the way. Happy Anniversary to me.

I have been a D'Lander for 1 insane year.

Who said I wouldn't last.

Deal faltering through North's greed -

Trade wrap: 3 days to go.

We look elsewhere for a third up forward.

I'd say that provided we get the deal done with martin going to the lions which now seems more likely as he has had an interview with them, we will get pedersen over to the dees. Hopefully we would get pick 33 for martin but if we get a pick around 45+ we may need to bundle that with our other pick, 49.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players.  Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin Boeing 737 flight to Perth for this upcoming team-bonding, fun-filled, weekend getaway.   This cross-continent Round 4 clash at Fremantle Oval starting at 2:05pm AEST promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies slight favourite.     If we lose, finals will be remoter than Rottnest Island and the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday, an omen.

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
