Jack Trengove

Give the guy (and us) a break. You don't go from being second quickest at the draft camp to all kinds of slow in a couple of years without very good reason. There would be a physical reason behind this, perhaps OP or the heavy training loads. Once he has resolved this physical issue, whatever it is, those questioning him now will feel pretty silly.

Was he the second quickest, or is he a marathon runner?

They are different things, though no one on here seems to care about such details.

What nonsense.

People - think of our 5 best mids and ask yourself how a 20 year old is supposed to thrive in that environment.

It's the Melbourne Youth False Economy © and it will be rectified in time and Trengove will be a very good midfielder.

Surely has OP.

If not, then that's a worry. But let's just say he has, and focus on the real problems.

Lost a race to the ball against old man Johncock - couldn't sprint only jog. If he doesn't have OP I would be extremely surprised and a little worried.

Old man he may be, but he's still speedy.

Brent Harvey's the same.

I would be disappointed if he is 100% fit, as his performances don't speak of a player who is 100% fit. But as I said, we have far bigger issues to worry about. Trengove has shown he has the ability to be a decent footballer at AFL level. That puts him above more than half our list, who are yet to reach this threshold requirement.

From his first 2 years I thought he was gonna be an absolute gun. Can you believe that his highest possession game for the year was 23 last week V GWS? 23 and he's played every game this year in the guts. Just has to get his hands on the ball a bit more. If he has problems with his pace he'll have to read the ball from stoppages a bit better. I'd love to see him start getting 25-30 touches. He's still showing some good signs every now and then but he just looks like an average player

He is, but I was more looking at Trengove's ability to shift gears rather than the fact he was beaten to the ball. Fact is he couldn't go up a gear, he had no explosiveness and its been like that all year. It may be a combination of training load and slight OP but its not just training load because he doesn't deteriorate during games he's the same at the first bounce as he is at the final siren.

People can believe that and 'note' it all they like. Fact is Trengove has played every game this year. Never 'rested' once due to soreness or injury.

Why? Because he's not injured.

You're not familiar with the concept of an injury that doesn't prevent you from playing, but has a detrimental effect on your output? Really?

Fair, there is something wrong, obviously, but, and this is maybe out of hope more than anything, I think it's an injury/OP.

If it's not, and he really is 100% fit, then he has a lot of work to do to either lose the weight that is slowing him down, or fix his running style, or do whatever it takes to improve speed. If he can't do that, then he needs to lift his workrate to make up for the slowness.

Jack Trengove

Strengths: Marking, tackling, skills on right and left foot.

Weaknesses: aerobic ability to get from one contest to run & run to another contests; kicking depth (45metres is his limit), no acceleration.

He has leadership quality and is a great young man. Will need to be over any OP, and have an intense 2013 pre season.

A key to our success. If he fails to flourish, we will continue to be cellar dwellars. He MUST become elite.

He's our captain. You don't think he just wants to push on and lead the side during our slump? As opposed to sitting on the sidelines and watching?

I've no doubt he does. I also don't believe he is injured.

I can see why some posters desperately want him to be though. The thought that he isn't is quite unpalatable.

Repeat guys get off his case! Our matriarch chose our Captain and rightly so our matriarch chose to play him in the one's not drop him to the Magoos.

If you both (the two previous posts) truly believe in Neeld then you would support our Captain through the hard times !

Precisely. I said it during the match today. Put more class and pace around Trengove and he will be an absolute gun.

People wish to know why he has no pace, it's not a matter of lacking support.

I see nothing special in this guy at all. Nothing.

You were filling his pocket when they were looking at Captains.

Is he still skipper material or just an ordinary player that was lucky to get the nod?

I'm a firm believer that he is injured, as many people have noted on numerous threads previously. At worst, he is under a huge training load which will be beneficial in the long term. You don't just 'lose' pace (except when you get old, like me) and you don't just not be able to kick 35m all of a sudden.

While I'm at it, 7th in at MFC marks, 9th in goals, 4th in contested possessions and 6th in inside 50s. The only stat that surprised me was that he is 14th in 1%ers (whatever they are).

Yes, he's not immediately eye catching at the moment, but to say he is ineffective, or worse, that we should get rid of him, is flat out silly.

Your seriously wasting your time on here with half this lot, most have never played and have no idea what they are looking for and would not know what a 1%er was if it hit them in the face

Why don't you believe he is injured? You have as much clue as anyone else here. Many players have played through OP before especially when playing through isn't going to make the injury any worse and resting isn't going to fix it.

What is it with people with no idea needing to make outlandish statements to try and make themselves feel relevant. You're acting as bad as Mark Robinson or David King or any other media nuffie here, it's quite unbecoming and a little embarrassing.

I don't believe that having a © next to your name on a team sheet has any effect on your ability to run quickly.

That said, if he produces another plodder of a season like this one in 2013 I've got no issue with Neeld stripping him of that title.

At the moment Trengove is just another battler. No great going for a no.2 draft pick.

Why is my comment any more outlandish than the the throng of people on here who opine that he has OP when they have no proof to that effect and no word from the club about it?

Trengove is slow and has played every single game this season. Those are the only facts at hand. No evidence of an injury at all.

I think you'll see, if you review the objective evidence available, that he has been one of our most consistent players all year.

But of course, sweeping generalisations and mindless repititions of a base statement are easy. Properly analysing the evidence and realising it doesn't support your case is what is unpalatable.

You mean, other than the fact that he can't move, all of a sudden?

If he was genuinely slow, he would have played like Brock McLean as an 18 year old.

LIVE AND LET DIE by Meggs

The Demons’ impressive late season charge to finals will most likely come unstuck this Saturday evening when the Bombers blow up the also-ran Blues in the Ikon Park double-header.   To mangle McCartney, what does it matter to ya? To have any chance to play next week Narrm has got a job to do and needs to do it well.  We’ve got to give the Pie sheilas hell, say live and let die! It’s Indigenous Round for this game and the chance to celebrate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres

Sadly, had to wrap up a great career in midstream on the back of multiple concussions which culminated in the Maynard hit in the 2023 Qualifying Final.
