I have always liked this kid.

Has been a little injury prone. Missed most of last year I think.

If he can stay on the park would be a great addition. Can finish in front of goals!

Keep chasing Dee's!

Remember watching him, think it was last year when we thrashed them at the G. He was the quickest player on the ground, really serious leg speed. His run and carry was impressive and probably the only highlight for them on the day. No doubt Neil Craig's the instigator behind the offer.

I doubt he'd be on 500k a year at Adelaide. I'm a bit concerned that we're going to really struggle to attract players this offseason. I mean, that's a fantastic offer, and he wouldn't be in the top 6 earners at Adelaide.

I said 'think'...okay??? So it was probably the game before..sheesh. The last six years are one gigantic blur of crapness.

I do recall watching Mackay and his blistering speed with his run and carry, so if you actually have something constructive to add, don't be a stranger..

69 to 81 PSD

4 premierships just an average sort of player

Yep think Swan was his nickname from memory, I was 9 watching him in 1981 remember it well I was the silly Irish kid who picked the dud team to follow and plenty of the boys in class were either Carlton or Collingwood. God they were hard times in school went back to Ireland from 84-86 and when we returned things hadn't got much better but 1987 the fairytale can't wait for my own boys to feel that sense of joy knowing your team is in the finals, last time we played finals my oldest boy was 5 months old now he follows the filth but I'll get him back

We offered him a four year $2m contract?

Good lord!

See your first Crows game of the year? Good on you champ.

I love it when the armchair experts hit the forums to let us know how little people like Neil Craig know about the game of football.

Looking forward to similar insightful contributions such as this in the future MO. Perhaps you could start by letting us know who should have received the offer instead.

You miss my point champ. I do watch plenty of footy and that includes Adelaide games and I haven't seen him once this year produce a performance that justifies a $500k price tag.

So if you're so smart, tell me how many Brownlow votes he's going to poll tomorrow night? Where do you think a $500k player should finish in his club's best and fairest? Given Adelaide had the benefit of what is universally believed to have been an easy draw and given where he plays on the ground, show me some stats that suggest this bloke was a matchwinner for his team?

I would think someone on $500k who plays midfield, on a wing or a flank would routinely at least get more than 20 possessions every week. His best this year was 24 in the qualifying final v Sydney (his team got flogged). Against Melbourne (I trust you saw that one) when his team win by 69 points he amassed 13 touches.

I'm willing to apologise champ if he picks up 10 Brownlow votes or finishes top 5 in Adelaide's B & F. Otherwise, I stand by what I said. He's not good enough to warrant $500k even if we were offering overs to get him.

Personally, I don't believe we were offering him that much anyway. Rather, it was a case of a player manager leaking information to get his client the best deal. That sort of thing does happen champ.

Gee Mo the champ tag really got under your skin huh?

So you've come back at me with the airchair weapon of stats! Awesome, maybe all those coaches we employ should just run their fingers down the stats column of the Sunday Herald-Sun every week and just offer money to whoever gets the most! What do you think that's you're reckoning isn't it? Lies, damn lies and statistics they say. Some players like Mc Kay impact the game in other ways, like with their speed, ability to read the play and set up their team mates. I imagine the role we had for him would have been different to Adelaides (the one the team who nearly made it into this years grand final). Or do you think he would have gotten the exact same number of statistics for us? Stats don't impress me but they obviously do you.

You're other suggestion, that Brownlow votes will somehow qualify your argument one way or the other is just plain bizarre. Now you want the bloody umpires to be in charge of our recruiting!!! Ha! Being the lover of statistics you are maybe I shouldn't have been surprised but gee whizz this is a beauty cause as you know only the very best player in the comp ever wins that. So youre now saying we should just recruit whoever wins that, or whoever gets over ten votes! Can't wait to see that list, throw some. Ames at me on Tuesday mate!

So with help from footywire, champion data and the umpires you sure have shown me my friend. You've shown me that we should bugger fringe players at other clubs who can bring something special to the worst club in the competition. We should invest in players like McKay with his speed, kicking and leadership qualities. Oh my hell no, champ!

Thanks for bringing up Champion Data where Mackay's average ranking isn't even in his team's top dozen but while you might have made some sort of point as to why we should go after a player of his ilk, you haven't addressed my concern which is the $500k price tag, which I maintain, if it is/was true, it was way over the top. In any event, if his own club believes that he has the extraordinary qualities you ascribe to him, then he should finish top 5 in his team's b & f. I look forward to seeing how he goes.

Keep digging your hole Mo. More stats! Mate he's playing a role in a top 4 side. He'd play midfield for us and stomp on half our list. Why bring up money when you doubt the figures quoted anyway? Stop reading the Sun and taking it as gospel.

He's bringing up money because that's the point he's making. The $500k price tag quoted for Mackay was way too high.

I don't think anyone doubts that we, as a club, need to spend to attract quality players to the club and sometimes pay over the odds, but at the same time, most would consider $500k for Mackay as way over the top.

FWIW, I thought he went quiet in the first half and went ok in the second half but overall, I haven't seen enough from him that suggests he would make a difference at our club if we had recruited him. Also, I think if you're going to take on a player on that pay, it's not unreasonable to expect a top five b & f finish.

We wouldn't recruit him on where he is going to finish in the Crows Best and Fairest though, we'd get him at our club to see where he'd finish in ours. Sure he might not finish high tho year, but what about next year? I think we saw value in where this guy is heading rather than where he is now, much like what we saw with Clark this year.

He would have been good for us. I just hate people judging our club on past experience given the turnover we've had off field in the past year.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
